I found this program yesterday after seeing a Ted Talk about it.

Since 1998, the American Museum of Natural History and the Hayden Planetarium have engaged in the three-dimensional mapping of the Universe. This cosmic cartography brings a new perspective to our place in the Universe and will redefine your sense of home.

This is a demo video provided by The American Museum of Natural History

These two vid's are ones I made of the program. The first is of the Milky Way and the second is outside of our galaxy.

You can download the Program here... http://www.haydenplanetarium.org/universe/download/

It is a zip file 184mb in size. You will need a program which is capable of unpacking zip files. Extract the file into a folder of you choice then double click on the file milkyway or extragalactic to see outside of our galaxy. If you have trouble figuring things out there are pdf guides to help you along.
