A GROWING number of wealthy Britons are weighing up a move abroad, with a possible exodus of more than half a million people over the next two years.

Nearly one in five well-off Brits (19 per cent) are considering emigrating, sharply up from 14 per cent one year ago.

The figures, compiled by Lloyds TSB, say that 544,000 people with investments of more than a quarter of a million pounds – excluding property – may leave in the next two years.

“This is not restricted to the small number of internationally mobile, ultra-high net worth individuals,” the report said. “This includes the large number of successful, affluent individuals who play an important role in powering the UK economy.”

Potential emigrants cited better infrastructure (61 per cent), less red tape (49 per cent) and lower taxes (45 per cent) as ways of making the UK more attractive.

Yet some off-putting factors are not the fault of government. Over half (55 per cent) of those surveyed who might leave the country blamed the weather.

And despite a growing number of possible emigrants, 62 per cent of the wealthy are currently happy with the UK as a place to live.

Try living here!

Don't get me wrong the UK has it's benefits. BUT, there isn't a person I know that if they could 'run to the sun'.. they would.

Unless you're way out whoop-whoop, you know that in 1995 they had 1 camera for every 17 people in britan yes?

Ones that are all manualy controlled, ones that spend more time looking into peoples houses than out onto the street.

I thought the UK (or perhaps just the City of London) had unusually favorable laws to attract the ultra rich. What is the advantage of the ultra rich? Do they lavish money on luxury goods and services and pay such taxes that even a smaller morsel is still desirable to the money-hungry government?

It is time to move from populated places. Time to go and leave all "civilised" things beind.
There are those who feel that and those who don't.
They r smart.. ill leave soon too.

You don't have to get tangled in the BS that's going down, every country has it's problems especially in these days of fiat money and self servers .

I visited England back in 2004. I got a few jobs there illegally, which was great because I could stay a little longer and see the country a little. England is beautiful but I would never ever live there permanently. Renne, I would suggest to you to move there for a few months and see for yourself what the country is all about. You are still young, go travel, it's cheap to travel when staying at hostels.

I used to backpack on my own a lot in my 20's and I also had a chance to stay in Australia for a while. Australia, now we are talking, I loved it there. It's a screwed up country just like the whole world is but the nature is out of this world. Yep, I would choose Australia anytime.

Been around, and every placed has its own things...but the UK, seems too rainy, too poor and to many kings and lords issues (ranks and institutions that should be burned to the ground).
Central and south Europe already becomes more interesting and also less Viking-ish. More food, sun and women that act more like señoritas.
Plus countries can be divided into beer drinking or vine drinking countries. At this point I must stress that the more beer they drink the scenes from brave heart come to mind, when its wine then I see farm land with a mild sun where people have some cheese with the bottle and some friend in peace... so brute people as Vikings, and northerners are invited but they simple cannot connect to the mood and skills that are required to practice this social event the right way.

So when a brit can leave he does...and not like last time (when the runner were poor) now they are not poor so they go to the sun, the food, the city...they go to a more civilised place in terms of human relations.....

This is only part of what I have seen with the huge inmigracion of north Europeans going to the south...They may also all just be looking for cheaper beer.....who knows.

Love to all.
