not the most exciting subject matter you may say, but actually he is very interesting and insightful and well worth your time, especially if you think economics is boring. Right - conventional economics is. Probably deliberately!

In particular, the following two entries on his new book, Resistance, Revolution, Liberation: A Model for Positive Change are HIGHLY recommended:

Charles Hugh Smith was one of my favorite people to follow, when I was focused on the financial/economic side of things, a year or three ago. He blends his economic understanding with a caring and aware philosophy, a broad learning in history, ecology, health, and much common sense.
I like his final words from the last link of his you posted above:
History is not fixed; it is in our hands. Revolutions spring not from history or abstract ideologies or street rebellions but from the transformed understanding of individuals. You cannot await a transition unfolding in a remote future or capitol to transform your life; that revolution begins in your internal understanding and reaches fruition in your coherently directed actions in the lived-in world.
From a review on Amazon of an earlier book of his, Survival+: Structuring Prosperity for Yourself and the Nation (http://amzn.com/B002UNN7F0):
Charles was talking about the current economic collapse years before it happened. He has an uncanny way of summarizing huge forces that are at work (economic, social, etc) and drawing conclusions that are clear to a point that they seem like common sense
Thanks for reminding me of him.

Thanks Paul. You are right about his broad learning - so valuable these days, and so rare.

Passion! I find this forum full of passionate people! One of the things about growing "up/down/all around" is that plain 'ole living buries the flame. One of the things I do in my everyday life is encourage passion.
