We have just had a major thunderstorm and hale stones! Birds are all hiding in the hedges. Our electric power keeps turning on and off. So my beautiful visuals of the birds are hiding yet I can still hear them chirping and singing away most joyfully.

I once had a blackbird that learnt to imitate our house telephone ring - I am sure it had a sense of humour when I would dash inside the house thinking our phone was ringing. 4 generations on with the same family of blackbirds, the recent blackbird only has a quarter of the telephone sound (I watched it dwindle as each generation was born) YET, their acceptance of me grew and this new blackbird comes so close I am sure I will have it eating out of my hands very soon. We already have a Robin that will eat out of hands. Smile.

I will take a photo another day.

Here in sunny South West florida, its been so dry and sunny that I’ve had to hand water my plants and flower bead of late, I have concrete borders around all the flower beads and so its easy to just let the hose run from a 225 foot well after 15m or so each bead will fill like a kiddy pool three inches deep, the river rock that fills the beds give a solid walking platform for the mocking birds to stand and bath in every other day, they’ve got my routine down pretty good now, so looking forward to the afternoon thunderstorms to kick in, being SW Fl is sub tropical once they start its like clock work every after noon, mini monsoons. LOL

With all the earth changes all these things are changing so for now, the birds and I are having a good time playing in the water, as the plants smile back. John XXX

John,

Marigolds, urugula, beets and onions are just poking through the wet soil in chilly Northern Illinois. I will have a substantial jump on things this year, knock, knock, knock.

Rhubarb, chives and asparagus are large and happy, except the asparagus doesn't get much time to look around.

The more sensitive plants—tomatoes, chiles, peppers, eggplants and zucchini—will become permanent garden residents in a week or two.
