CIA 'foils underwear bomb' plot by al-Qaeda in Yemen

US intelligence officials say they have disrupted a plot by al-Qaeda in Yemen to detonate an upgraded version of the failed 2009 "underwear bomb", according to US media reports.
The device is said to be in US custody, with the FBI reportedly examining the bomb, which was seized by CIA agents.
Reports said no target had been chosen and no plane tickets purchased by the time the alleged plot was foiled.
There is no indication on the status of the would-be bomber.
It is not clear who built the device, but officials say it shares some features with the bomb sewn into the underwear of would-be suicide bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab on a plane bound for Detroit on Christmas Day 2009.
Speaking to ABC News, a US intelligence official said the device bore "all the hallmarks" of the 2009 underwear bomb.
The latest device included a powerful industrial explosive and did not use metal, suggesting the bomb could have passed through airport security unnoticed, the Associated Press reports.
President Barack Obama was first informed of the plot in April, White House spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden said, adding that the device did not pose a threat to the public.
News of the operation emerged shortly after US marked one year since the death of Osama Bin Laden. Last week, the White House said it was not aware of any current al-Qaeda plots against the US.
News of the alleged plot comes a day after Fahd al-Quso, a senior al-Qaeda leader in Yemen, was killed by a US drone strike.

Fun fact: There is no Al Qaeda. The name was made up by our alphabet soup agencies to lump together the huge number of different Mujahideen groups operating in the middle east. So any time you see a story mentioning a nebulous "Al Qaeda" then it's Propaganda since the name was only invented to try and create a singular scary "Terrorism Boogeyman" that the USA had to fight.

Well, although I was sort of misled, your photo shows quite well the ridiculousness of it anyhow. Those are easy to detect if the right measures are taken, such as sniffing dogs. But US prefers groping people with much less competent workforce than dogs would be in such circumstances.

Hey fellas.. Tired of looking in the mirror and sighing at the sight of impending middle age, an expanding waistline and the same old greying and baggy Y fronts staring back at you? Well, it seems Marks and Spencer might have the answer. M&S have always produced underwear of the highest quality and are quick to pounce on a niche in the market. They've produced a new range of control pants for men. Yes, MEN. The 'manties' are designed to lift and firm men's bottoms and this is the best bit.. allow less well-endowed men to beef up their bulge.
The £15 Bodymax range go on sale this month to keep men in the loop with their female counterparts, the bestselling 'Bridget Jones' style control pants. The Bodymax pants reputedly raise men's bottoms by 20%. The 'frontal enhancement' pants have a 'unique integral shelf' that bumps up the lunchbox by a huge 38%. And then there's the Bodymax vest which tucks in moobs and beer bellies.

The BBC, the most controlled and brain dead 'news' organisation on the planet (along with Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, etc, etc.) repeats the official story of a 'foiled bomb plot' that is complete and utter bollocks.
http://www.davidicke.com/images/stories/May20123/3.jpg
Jane O'BrienBBC News, Washington:
'In spite of recent successes against al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, Yemen continues to be the focus of US counter-terrorism operations.
Targeted killings carried out by unmanned aircraft, or drones, have become a key component of the CIA's campaign against senior al-Qaeda figures. On Sunday, Fahd al-Quso, wanted by the FBI for his role in the bombing of the USS Cole in 2000, was killed by a missile as he stepped out of a vehicle. It's not clear whether his death was part of the same operation that uncovered the latest plane bomb plot against the US.
The man believed to be responsible for designing the device that would have been used is also said to be hiding in Yemen. Ibrahim al-Asiri, 30, is a Saudi national who helped mastermind the so-called "underwear bomb" plot in 2009 and the 2010 attempt to blow up two cargo planes bound for the US. The FBI says the device it is currently examining is similar but more sophisticated than the ones used in those previous attacks.'
How does she know any of this? US officials said so. Er, that's it. Note how matter-of-fact she reports the murder of people by drone strikes without any evidence being produced of their involvement in 'terrorism'.
As a reporter for the BBC, she will be officially unable to see the blatantly bloody obvious - that the drone strikes that have killed thousands of civilians are themselves acts of terrorism, as with pepper-bombing Iraq, Libya, etc., etc. I wouldn't pay them with washers.
The BBC - Blatantly Biased Crap.

Jesse Ventura's TSA Lawsuit Thrown Out By Judge
Jesse Ventura

ST. PAUL, Minn. — A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit by former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura in which he sought to challenge the use of full-body scans and pat-downs at airport checkpoints.
Ventura sued the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration in January alleging that the scans and pat-downs violated his right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizure.
U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson ruled Thursday that the court lacked jurisdiction.
Ventura claimed that the titanium hip implanted in him in 2008 sets off metal detectors and that agents previously used hand-held wands to scan his body. He says he was subjected to a body pat-down after an airport metal detector went off last November.
Ventura's attorney says Ventura will comment Friday outside the St. Paul federal courthouse.

Foiled underwear bomber 'is double agent'
Wednesday 09 May 2012
A would-be underwear bomber foiled by American intelligence is actually a double agent, according to US reports.
Underwear bomber
Reports claim Saudi Arabia's intelligence agency placed the operative inside al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) with the goal of convincing his handlers to give him a new type of non-metallic bomb for the mission.
Western intelligence agencies have identified AQAP as among the most dangerous and determined al Qaeda affiliates in the world, dedicated in part to attacks on the West.
The explosive device was intended to be smuggled aboard an aircraft undetected and then detonated.
The double agent arranged instead to deliver the device to U.S. and other intelligence authorities waiting outside Yemen, the LA Times reported.
The agent arrived safely in an unidentified country and is being debriefed.
Experts at the FBI's bomb laboratory in Quantico, Virginia, are now analyzing the device to determine if it really could have evaded airport security, the newspaper said.
Upgraded version
If such a device could be brought on board an aircraft, it could in theory be detonated without the knowledge of aircraft passengers and crew.
The main charge was a high-grade military explosive that "undoubtedly would have brought down an aircraft," the New York Times reported, citing a senior American official.
It appeared to be an upgraded version of the so-called "underwear bomb" that failed to down a passenger jet over Detroit on Christmas Day 2009, the LA Times said.
"Like that bomb, this device bears the forensic signature of feared al Qaeda bomb maker Ibrahim Hassan Asiri," who is believed to be hiding in Yemen, the LA Times Web site reported.
The operation relied not on the high-tech and satellite surveillance for which the CIA has been known in recent years, but old-fashioned human intelligence work.
It did, however, produce intelligence that helped the CIA locate top al Qaeda operative Fahd al-Qasaa, who was killed on Sunday when a CIA drone targeted him with a missile as he stepped out of his car in Yemen, the newspapers reported.
Qasaa was thought by intelligence analysts to have played a role in the bombing of guided missile destroyer USS Cole in a Yemeni port in 2000.

'The supposed al Qaeda bomb plot to blow up a U.S. bound plane has completely fallen apparent with recent revelations that the terrorist was actually working for the CIA and Saudi Intelligence the entire time.
That’s right, this huge corporate media manufactured story was literally a NON EVENT with the terrorist actually being an operative who then turned the bomb over to the Central Intelligence Agency.
In an all too predictable next move, the corporate media is now running direct homeland security advertisements for body scanners throughout the entire world.'

‘Underwear Bomber’ Was Working for the CIA
By Paul Harris and Ed Pilkington, Guardian UK
Editor’s Note: A 3 year old VT article sits below. We waited this long for the truth to come out…in Britain but not America. Why is a CIA agent on a “false flag” assignment now doing life in prison? We just had the same type attack several days ago and we have already been assured it was the CIA and Homeland Security that planned and executed it.
Would-be “underwear bomber” involved in a plot to attack a US-based jet was in fact working as an undercover informer with Saudi intelligence and the CIA, it has emerged.
The revelation is the latest twist in an increasingly bizarre story about the disruption of an apparent attempt by al-Qaida to strike at a high-profile American target using a sophisticated device hidden in the clothing of an attacker.
The plot, which the White House said on Monday had involved the seizing of an underwear bomb by authorities in the Middle East sometime in the last 10 days, had caused alarm throughout the US.
It has also been linked to a suspected US drone strike in Yemen where two Yemeni members of al-Qaida were killed by a missile attack on their car on Sunday, one of them a senior militant, Fahd Mohammed Ahmed al-Quso.
But the news that the individual at the heart of the bomb plot was in fact an informer for US intelligence is likely to raise just as many questions as it answers.
Citing US and Yemeni officials, Associated Press reported that the unnamed informant was working under cover for the Saudis and the CIA when he was given the bomb, which was of a new non-metallic type aimed at getting past airport security.
The informant then turned the device over to his handlers and has left Yemen, the officials told the news agency. The LA Times, which first broke the news that the plot had been a “sting operation”, said that the bomb plan had also provided the intelligence leads that allowed the strike on Quso.
Earlier John Brennan, Barack Obama’s top counter-terrorism adviser and a former CIA official, told ABC’s Good Morning America that authorities are “confident that neither the device nor the intended user of this device pose a threat to us”.
US officials have said the plot was detected in its early stages and that no American airliner was ever at risk.
The FBI is conducting forensic tests on the bomb as a first step towards discovering whether it would have cleared existing airport scanning systems. Dianne Feinstein, the Democratic senator for California who heads the Senate intelligence committee, gave an early hint when she said that she had been briefed about the device which she called “undetectable”.
But AP quoted an unnamed US official as saying current detection methods probably would have spotted the shape of the explosive in the latest device.
Just how major an escalation in threat is posed by the bomb remains unclear. Security sources have told news agencies that it was a step up in levels of sophistication from the original underwear bomb that was used in a failed attempt to blow up an airliner over Detroit on Christmas Day in 2009.
The device used a more refined detonation system, and Brennan said “it was a threat from a standpoint of the design”.
When it comes to who made the device the focus is on an al-Qaida’s offshoot, Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). Matthew Levitt, a counter-terrorism expert at the Washington Institute, said that the interception of the plot amounted to a significant achievement for US security agencies.
He said: “The FBI is holding the device, which suggests that this was done by having boots on the ground. This was a sophisticated operation that shows we are making in-roads in serious places.”
Levitt, who was involved as a senior analyst in the FBI’s investigation into 9/11, said that it was natural to be sceptical in a presidential election year about security announcements. “But this was not political, it didn’t come from the White House and my sense was that it was a really unique success,” he said.
Levitt said that the spotlight would now be even more intense on Ibrahim Hassan al-Asiri, AQAP’s assumed bomb-making chief, who is thought to be hiding out in Yemen.
Asiri is believed to have been the creator of the Detroit underwear bomb as well as explosives that were packed into printer cartridges bound for Chicago in 2010.
