Good damn question. Seems unanswerable to me. But I may be missing something.

The answer most heard is because Source wanted to experience itself in all ways. That's tough for me to buy since Source is omniscient to begin with.

But it is also said that God didn't have the ability to experience himself existentially. It is one thing to know of yourself to be a good singer, it is another thing to experience this. God couldn't, so he created the illusion of a Universe and send uncountable parts of himself into it, who forgot all about who they are, to have these experiences of himself in all ways.

That's how I got it told anyway ;)
