Avalonians,
Most of you are aware of the massive obesity epidemic that's going on in America, as well as many other nations in the world. It's an epidemic of horrific proportions, no pun intended.
Many of you have gone through the trials and tribulations of suffering the effects of the yo-yo diet, the struggle of trying to burn off your excess fat and so on.
So this article...
http://www.chronicneurotoxins.com/learnmore/obesityresearch.cfm
... seems to be an absolute must-read for you if you have struggled with your weight.
An excerpt:
Imagine my surprise years ago, when my treatment of obese patients – along with my continuing inquiries on the causes of the disease- demonstrated a remarkable fact: the mechanisms that underlay obesity shared many of the same physiologic principles involved in chronic, biotoxin-associated illnesses. It was crystal clear that a proper diagnosis of obesity involved looking at interactions of genetics and hormones like leptin and insulin, as well as the chemical messengers called cytokines (more on inflammation and cytokines coming up) that help white blood cells monitor and manage our internal immune defenses.
So this doctor, Richie Shoemaker, M.D., may well have uncovered the root cause for the massive obesity problem. Has he? Time will tell.
I invite you to do research on the information provided in this article and post whatever information that you may find, as well as any personal experiences -- positive or negative -- that you may experience. A bunch of minds on this is better than just one or two, right?
Let's help each other lose that damn weight and uncover our greatness that is hidden inside of our selves.
Let's shift our ways of living towards things that support healthy, independent living (organic gardens and small family farms) and away from fat, heavy and diseased ways of life that fattens not only us, but the goddamn corporate fat cats who laugh all the way to their banks with their obscene profits that they've made off the misery of far too many of us.

Mozart- I could kiss you for posting that article. That is SO informative, expecially since I am a lyme sufferer, and cannot lose my extra waddlage.
And foreverfan, I crack up every time I look at your avatar.

After reading the entire article, I get it.
The best TZD drug to use is Pioglitazone/Actos. Not sure of the MGs.
These drugs are considered diabetic drugs.
You can get prescription free Generic Actos from this Dependable Site - 4RX.com. (http://www.4rx.com/online-pharmacy/categories/diabetes/generic-pioglitazone.html)
I have ordered from this site many times.
WARNING: Weight loss benefits from the use of TZDs disappear when the patient begins to add amylose into his diet. Even worse, weight gain, some due to fluid retention, also occurs when TZDs are used in conjunction with a diet that includes amylose.
Remember: If you are considering TZDs, you must use the No-Amylose Diet (http://www.livestrong.com/article/335261-the-no-amylose-diet/), without fail.

No-Amylose Diet (http://www.livestrong.com/article/335261-the-no-amylose-diet/#ixzz1wKH44G6m)
Applications
The ideal candidate for the no-amylose diet is anyone suffering from or at risk for obesity and insulin-resistant diabetes, although Shoemaker also notes that reducing the risk of either will also decrease the risk of developing other diseases. In addition, in a presentation given at the 7th Annual AACFS Conference held in Madison, Wisconsin on October 7, 2004, Karen Vrchota, M.D., reported that some of her chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia patients that experienced bloating and weight gain as side effects from their medications achieved significant relief after following the no-amylose diet for 10 days.
Acceptable Foods
With the exception of bananas, Shoemaker says that all fruits are low in amylose. Lean meats are permitted, as are many vegetables. In terms of the latter, the general rule of thumb is to adhere to varieties that grow above ground, especially green vegetables. In addition, foods low in amylose typically rank higher in the glycemic index, or GI, a measurement of how fast carbohydrates are broken down into glucose by the body.
Foods to Avoid
The no-amylose diet advocates the avoidance of all sugars and grains with the exception of certain varieties of "waxy" corn. Other specific foods to avoid include potatoes, yams, carrots and other root vegetables; cereals that contain rye, wheat, rice, oats or barley; and foods enhanced with corn syrup or maltodextrins.
It should be noted:
Except for the addition of the prescription, this is almost the same thing as the Sugar Busters Diet (http://www.sugarbusters.com/). This BOOK (http://www.amazon.com/The-New-Sugar-Busters-Trim/dp/0345469585%3FSubscriptionId%3DAKIAJASE6HSSVXTNREYQ%26tag%3Dfstchrm-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D0345469585?afsrc=fstfx) is an excellent read. I know for a fact that following the Sugar Busters diet is a great way to lose weight. The real question is does adding the prescription really necessary or does it make it a diet that Doctors can now prescribe and will you keep the weight off? Plus all of the low carb diets curb cravings after 48 hours. On the surface, I think it will become a new fad diet and the science will prove ineffective once you go back to eating the crap people usually eat.
So it comes back to what you eat. From what I know... there is no doubt that eating a no-amylose-diet will produce a low glycemic response that will cause you to lose weight. The author suggests the results are much more than weight loss. That would be outstanding.

paragraph that interest me (from this article)
You can imagine the reaction among the members of our research group, when we realized that we were confronting a completely new concept in weight-loss and weight-maintenance – the notion that much of the resistance to leptin (and other hormones such as insulin) was actually due to cytokine-damage resulting from exposure to environmental toxins!
In my own body, I have discovered many toxins. Toxins from food, from the air and from what I put on my skin. So I changed my cooking pans (eliminated the aluminum exposure), switched bar soaps (to the cleanest on the market....cleure....), lowered as much as possible the amount of deterigent I use (as Tide bothers me as well) and so on. It is a process of elimination (to stop being exposed 'in the future').
Looking at buying an Infra-red blanket at the moment (but might not be a good idea for me....as right now I am electro-sensitive....so might wait till I am well...ie. got my smart meters problem solved).
I'm not fat....but this article is really about all our healths.

The HCG diet ends all that frustration but guess what?, the FDA has shut the industry the last 6 months so they can keep all their other billion dollar yo yo systems in business. Google it and find out. You do the math :(

lowered as much as possible the amount of deterigent
I use no detergent ... I wash dishes, hands, hair, and body with various Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps (http://www.drbronner.com/) :) I wash clothes with a homemade powder mixture of:
one cup washing soda
one cup borax
one bar of Fels-Naptha, grated
Apparently I'm not the only one. The above ingredients for clothes washing are all next to each other on a shelf in my local Wal*Mart, and several varieties of Dr. Bronner's soaps are in my local supermarket.
Oh - and then use vinegar instead of "fabric softener" in the clothes washing machine.

people who want to lose weight easily should avoid all grains that have gluten (wheat, rye, barley etc.) and all foods made of those grains. doing that it's pretty much impossible NOT to lose (a lot of) weight if one is obese. there are a number of interesting books available about this issue.
not saying that there aren't any other factors, there definitely are (i haven't read the full article but will do so later as it looks pretty intersting) but imo the main reason for obesity (in the usa and other western countries) is grains and here especially wheat and wheat products.
