For example I went to put my rechargeable batteries into my EVR (electronic voice recorder) and i found white resign on the back and front of it, There is nothing in my drawer that would have done this and I hadn't touched in over 24 hrs. The resign smelled like semi burnt plastic, but there where no batteries in the EVR. and it had nothing on it prior, it was clean as I am very anal about keeping my equipment clean...

Hey shadowstalker,
I would advice you to have your recorder checked or buy another one.
This leaking of what you call white resin is a sign that some electronic components inside the recorder are fried, or will get fried soon.
Itīs most probably thermal paste, which is used between components to dissipate heat.
Some electronic devices also have small internal batteries, to store settings like date, time and other configurations. This internal battery might have fried and leaked as well.
If itīs expensive, I would have it checked by a technician. If itīs cheap, I would just buy another one.
Cheers,
Raf.

But why would it be only on the outside and not the inside (plus when there is no batts inside it don't hold dates and stuff)

Well, when some components fry, they do leak this liquid, so it leaks while still hot, to the outside of the device, then the liquid solidifies when it cools down, just like paraffin.
A lot of electronic components, like capacitors, use resin like substances as insulators.
Itīs a very common thing in fried electronics.

So if its fried it should not be working right?

Not necessarily.
For instance, if a component overheats, this insulating substance, which protects the component, will leak.
Then, the component will be unprotected and more likely to fail in the near future.
If you use this recorder a lot, you might want to buy another one, just in case.
Cheers,
Raf.

particles and moisture are in the air, and will move to electricity carring any micro/debris it can carry. this can cause discolor to any metal or electric devices. just a thought.
My ex-wife's car has plastic that leaks a white substance out occasionally, usually from heat exposure. Could be the same phenomenon?
Now, about my stuff. I have a pocket watch that was my deceased fathers. He died when I was 3 years old, 57 years ago. The watch had not worked since I've had possession of it. One day I walked through my bedroom where I have it displayed in a cool little glass dome. It was ticking and was set to the correct time! I was floored.
My sister has a grandmother clock in her living space. It has not been wound in many years, because she did not like the loud chiming. The clock was a gift from her husband's dad, who is passed on. On the day of his death anniversary the clock began to chime and chimed all day. It has not chimed since.

Who knows, I am still trying to figure out the timing on it all, with no batts in the device for 24+hrs. then the white stuff, nothing in the batt chamber either.
But still I would like to hear other strange stories, for the thread, still keep throwing me advise I do very much appreciate it.

This reminds me: My dad received a really nice grandfather clock when he retired in the early 80's. It broke and would not work after about the first year he had it and he never took it and got it fixed. When he died in 2009 I brought this clock back home with me and opened the back up and seen a receipt from a jeweler my dad stashed in the inside of the clock that stated the jeweler could not fix it dated back in 1986.
I put the clock on a shelf in my living room and 7 days after my dad died while I was sitting on my couch the clock just started ticking and chiming,
All by itself!!! I wind it and it keeps perfect time, works just like a brand new clock.......thanks dad!!!!

A friend of mine, an electronics engineer, said the thing that makes electronic components work is "magic smoke". Not believing him, I said, "oh really? how do you know"?
He said he knows because when the magic smoke comes out, the components don't work any more. :drum:
I agree with Raf. You should get rid of it or get it checked out.
My laptop's keyboard died a couple of months ago, so I had the keyboard replaced. A few days ago, the new keyboard stopped working. I used my wireless keyboard so I could keep working. I was explaining this annoyance to my sister and tapped on several keys on my laptop to emphasise the story. Mysteriously, the laptop keyboard was working again. Yay. Last night, both Enter keys on my laptop stopped working and it was irritating to have to use the mouse to click OK or Send or whatever. Now it's working normally again. It's not the strangest thing that has happened but just one example.
In my kitchen, one halogen light often doesn't work. An electrician replaced the transformer and the light worked for a few days. Now the light works intermittently. Sometimes it flickers, which is more annoying than when it doesn't work at all. One night I was cutting some vegies directly under the light (when it was working) and it began flickering. I grumbled, "will you STOP THAT"?!! The light immediately started working again. Now it has gone back to it's usual strangeness and it doesn't always respond when I talk to it. I know - I should get the electrician to check or replace the transformer again because electrical faults are a common cause of house fires.
One more example: The same friend who told me about the magic smoke built a robot about 20 years ago. During the development of the robot's software, it started behaving very strangely. Sometimes it would not move at all for hours, then it would start vibrating violently, like it was having a seizure. Then it would either go back to "sleep" again for a while or suddenly zoom around the room randomly, then stop and vibrate violently again. A few times it zoomed across the room, straight toward the couch where my friend and I were sitting. Then the robot would reach out it's one arm as if it were a bird and "peck" at the couch aggressively. We lifted our legs onto the couch so the robot could not hit our shins with its beak-like hand. After a while, the robot zoomed half-way across the room at high speed, then spun very fast in circles for about a minute, had more convulsions, then went to "sleep". It repeated this random weirdness several times over the course a few weeks. It was very entertaining and had us laughing hysterically. In the name of progress, the "freak program" was eventually replaced with a newer version. My friend never discovered the cause of the weirdness.

A friend, who is a nurse, told me she was riding a horse when she was 15 and they were struck by lightning. The horse died. My friend survived. Since then, every battery-powered watch she ever wore stopped working. She often "kills" appliances just by touching them. The hospital where she worked, in Phoenix, Arizona, banned her from touching any electronic equipment because several very expensive items had to be replaced after she touched them.

This is something weird that happened with a piece of wood about a month after my brother's death.
He was the older of my 2 brothers and he died leaving his wife with 4 young children devastated. Even after a month, we were all still shocked....
I was sitting on the floor in my foyer, cleaning and I had been thinking about what a mess his death left behind. I was lost in this thought for a few moments. I had stopped working and just stared at nothing, but there was a small piece of wood sitting on top of some clothing on the bench. It was just there in my line of vision. Suddenly, it just flipped up in the air a few inches high and landed back down. There was even this flipping sound. There was no wind. No fan going. I was looking right at it as it happened...! I was truly amazed because it was so like him to get my attention like that. For me, it was confirmation of life after death AND that he was alright! Humor was still intact!
By doing this, I think he was trying to tell me that things would be alright with everyone....including me.
