View Full Version : Being filled with the Holy Spirit

Maybe this should be asked on another thread, but there has been several references to biblical fundamentalist christians "being filled with the holy spirit" and this is the subjective, irrevocable, immutable, absolute, unmoving "feeling" you get when you give your power over to Jesus.
My question is, could it be possible you got a "taste" of the holy spirit and did not get "filled"? If you are filled, then would you not be able to walk on water, walk through walls, raise people from the dead, bi-locate, teleport, remote view, prophesy, and heal the sick?
Many traditions do not distinguish between life force, energy, quantum photonic particles, the divine source field, the Grand Sophia, chi, prana, and good old fashioned raw vegetables as one in the same, and that righteousness is the "right use of energy" as Yeshua actually taught. He said that greater things would we do than he has done once we understand the holy spirit.
So, would any of you christians "Filled" with the holy spirit mind walking through the wall of my office right now and having a sandwich with me? I'm buyin unless you want to manifest one when you get here.

Sarcasm isn't becoming, and is a poor tool for serious debate. But I will answer your question anyway: Being "filled" with the holy spirit does not translate into becoming supernatural. It does not mean we acquire abilities to do anything we haven't done before. It means only that we are filled with a feeling of unconditional love and we equate that to a divine interaction, if you will, with our Creator. You can call it whatever you wish, I prefer to call it a bonding with God. Your last sentence doesn't deserve an answer, because you are trying to be funny at my expense.

Being "filled" with the holy spirit... It means only that we are filled with a feeling of unconditional love (emphasis mine) and we equate that to a divine interaction, if you will, with our Creator.
I have had christians try and explain to me what happens to them and this is a very typical answer. "Feeling" occurring in a body does require the body to "emote", which when studied physiologically, is energy (life force) releasing certain hormones which stimulate certain brain centers, sending these hormones throughout the body. There is no evidence that christians have energies or hormones being secreted exclusive to themselves or those who have been "saved". Through Kirlian photography of any persons energy field, there is no evidence that those who are filled based on a savior, compared to those who are not filled, shows any energy in their field which could be construed as "holy spirit" irrespective of those who are not.
I understand that your experience is subjective and that you, as a sentient being, can and will choose to interpret your experience based on the context from where your filters are currently, and that it is your choice to be open to new information which might change your belief, or remain absolutely and irrefutably immutable from your current viewpoint.
That too is your choice.
The implication in your explanation, is that you are divinely connected now, and those who are not saved are not "filled" with the holy spirit, or this "divine" connection.

Maybe this should be asked on another thread, but
The above posts on this thread started out life on another thread, over here (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?47192-Jordan-Maxwell-debunked&p=521030&viewfull=1#post521030). They seemed more appropriate material for a separate thread, so I separated them.

Great Post Grip. I will tell you my story
Aproximately 5 years ago my brother was dying of kidney failure. He was frequenting the dialysis clinic 3 times a week from his condition. Several months had passed and his condition was getting worse. His Doctors had asked my brother if had any siblings that might think of donating a kidney to him. After getting the call from my brother one night he popped the question to me and my two older sisters the same evening. We all agreed that we would help our brother. After going thru tests to see who was the best kidney match, my sister debbie was almost perfect. After going through tests almost every day at The Columbian Presbyterian Hospital in NY my sister whom was suffering from a minute blood disorder at the time got the go ahead from her doctor. Needless to say The Kidney Doctor from the hospital disaproved of this surgery. I was the next in line to donate my kidney to my brother. I had aproximately 8 months prior before the surgery. So what did i do to prepare for this journey. I decided to go to church on Sunday. That wasnt enough, I started to read The New Testament on an almost daily basis. For some reason i had drawn a friend into my life. The Spirit. Was it The Holy
Spirit or did Jesus come into my life finally. Im not sure. There was a big change. All of my friends and family had seen a completely different person transform. A glow if you will. I was filled with unconditional Love and Peace for several years. A reward if you will. It was truly amazing. As for my brother hes doing well. As for me i moved on to a spiritual path. And Ascended Master Jesus is still in my heart.
True Story!

I am not implying that, at all, gripreaper. Please don't add your interpretation to what I said. I said I feel a bond with God; there is no implication that those who are not saved are not filled with the holy spirit. My statement about myself makes no reference to anyone else's "divine" connection.

Aren't you mistakeing and mixing together two distinct phenomena? Being filled with Holy Spirit is the same as illumination which is a state of expanded consciousnes. It does not gives you supernatural powers :) There is no such thing. There is only Faith. The kind of little children have. You can move mountains with it. But you will not pass through walls. To do that you need to transcend (translate) your physical body into Light. Illumination is just a very first step toward transcendence. You don't die. You just become so light that you dissapear from sight without leaving any trace... Buddhist know this and one Llama achieved this in 20th century. It was even recorded on camera. You will know when your moment of transcendence is aproaching. There are also two accounts of transcendence in the old testament. One in regard of Melchizedeck and second is for Elijah. Jesus has left his body as most people on Earth do. He came back after 3 days in his Light body. His material body was submited to the process of accelerated decay through accelerating time localy by Angels. It was his personal choice as he wanted to complete Earth life as most of humans do. In a technical sense he had not rised from his grave. But he returned for a brief moment to Earth in his light body with the ability to make it more dense and visible to people. You'v asked a question. Here is an answer. Take it or breake it. It is your free will that i respect :)

I understand that you want to make sense of this experience, but there are not really any words that can describe this experience.
And how can you know something you have not (yet) experienced??, of course you can't, no one can before they have experienced it.
I am not religious, but I know through experience that whatever you think you know by now, is gonna be meaningless after you had your experience.
I would know, because I know I was an ignorant idiot in the past.
The funny thing is that I know that you are gonna bow down if you have this experience, and not for any reason you ever are able to think up now.
You are gonna fall to the ground with tears of joy, because you don't know what pure unconditional love is, (yet)
You may believe many things and that is okay, it's just how we experience this reality.

I can share an experience I had. Many years I tried to meditate, but could not get my mind to shut up. I finally figured out, that if I went for a walk before meditating, and gave my mind permission to ramble and run as hard as it wanted, while I oxygenated my body, that we would be still and quiet while meditating. I did get to where I could slow down my brainwave activity from beta, to theta and then to delta where the mind was perfectly still. This delta state is like the REM dream state, only in meditation, it is conscious and not dreamy.
My intention, as each inbreath and outbreath proceeded through the theta stage, was to intention a sacred column around myself, and only invite the energies I wanted into this column, to protect against any dualistic nefarious entities. I would then ground myself to the center of the earth through my root chakra ,and to the Great Central Sun thorough my crown chakra. Once fully connected, I would expand the column to encompass the entire planet and then out into the universe. I would invite my higher self, and my I AM presence into the column. Often times I would invite Lord Sananda, the highest purest energy of Yeshua ben Joseph, into the column as well.
One day, while meditating, I had what can only be described as a rush of Kundalini energy strike my field, which made me very light headed and it felt like I was levitating, although in the trance state, I did not know if I was elevated off the floor or not. In my minds eye, I began to see stars come towards me and turn into white doves, and as they got right in front of me would turn into luminescent figures, until there were hundreds upon hundreds of figures standing in front of me. Tears poured from my eyes as I felt so humbled that the entire cosmos would stand in front of me. Little old me.
The energy I felt, was the entire cosmos of pure unconditional love pour through me, but not just my BA body, but my KA body as well. Since then, I have been different. I see things from the soul perspective and all of the earthly games and dramas seem like theatre and I'm just a player on the stage. This is not to trivialize experience for each path can be taken as long as desired, for as many lifetimes as desired, to tarry and repeat experiences as many times as desired. All roads lead back to source.
I was once a fundamentalist christian bible believer, got saved and had the "feeling" of being saved, was baptized by immersion, and filled with the holy spirit. Once I had the Kundalini experience mentioned above, the "saved" experience paled in comparison, and I was able to lose all of the constructs, beliefs, and dogmas I had surrounding that chapter of my life. It has been very joyful and full since, and ...
Yes, you are that powerful and yes, you are that connected. That's my story.

Hello, my dear sister and friend. You are "correct" on many levels here in your response to gripreaper. I actually believe you are being much "too kind" in your portrayal of him being "sarcastic", in that, his agenda appears to discard the earnest desire to "learn" about this "topic",....and to rather discredit, out of ignorance.
When the Holy Ghost was "initially" poured out on the Day of Pentecost, Acts chapter 2,....we find that "mockers" existed then,......and they still "live on" today!
I'd like to think,.....that many of "those same mockers" in the Biblical account of Acts chapter 2,....listened to Peter's message, were convicted, and went on to "join and be part of the 3,000" who were, also, baptized in Jesus' name, and filled with the Holy Ghost. It remains to be seen,....what will become of the "mockers" of today?! Will they listen to the "wisdom" of the "mockers of yesterday",....listen to the "message",....follow their convictions,...and obtain the "same results"? It's entirely up to them!
For "those who are interested",....I have provided a link to a "very recent" post that I made, right here, on Avalon,....dealing with this same "topic". In this post I have given some personal accounts, and testimony of my "own" experience of being "filled with the Holy Ghost".
My personal "experience",....mirrors the many "other accounts" of individuals being filled with Holy Ghost,....according to the Scriptures. I speak of this in detail in this post.

Anyone can have this "genuine experience",....today,.....if they will "listen" to the "entire message"!!!

I once heard a quote that went something like this. Religion is like the many colored panes on a lamp with each person looking through their own colored pane at the light within that is God.
http://moroccanprestige.com/images/products/light-fixtures/lamps/moroccan-lamps_0055_L-57.jpg
Having traveled to almost every continent, lived amongst many wonderful people whose cultures and religions are different from mine, I know in my heart I cannot judge anyone's path. It is sacred to them, and their experiences are between them and God. I can only speak to my own experiences and beliefs, and to be filled with the Holy Spirit can take on many aspects. I think, and this is just my opinion based on being in many church services where a minister gives a stirring salvation sermon and people are emotionally touched to make that choice to proclaim their faith or rededicate their life as the prodigal son returned home and they act upon that decision often in front of a congregation. Their emotions run high, they are stirred, and feel some intense emotions. Sometimes the fruit of that event bears out and there is a changed human being who is freed from the things that held them back before, and other times the fruit does not bear out in their life, and they are not as changed as you would have thought given the emotional event you witnessed. Again, that's between them and God, I am speaking to the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and self control.
I might share my salvation experience one day here, but it's incredibly personal and I was alone when it happened. There was no one else present but the Holy Spirit, God, and Yeshua. I was not at the bottom of the barrel contemplating suicide or depressed or having problems, in fact, I was at the highpoint of my life at the time. God just had other plans for me it seems. It changed my life goals and desires forever. Now, having said all that, it was highly emotional, and I felt the Holy Spirit, and I am sure I was filled with the Holy Spirit, but the experience I had seven years later, as you stated regarding your Kundalini awakening Grip, is completely different.
That experience seven years later for me has lasted through to this day, and even today, I was again blessed with that divine union. To me, it did not change the work of the Lord in my life or how S/he uses me. I am just a willing vessel or as the Scripture says, Hineni. (http://www.jimbrule.com/blog/sermons/hineni/)Whatever is needed, Hineni. I never healed anyone before I got saved. I never cast out demons before I got saved, though I had been harassed by them. I never expected miracles before I got saved, and now they are a regular part of my life. I have a simplistic trust in the Lord because of my knowing Him as I do. I ask for nothing without reason, and when I ask, I trust for an answer and I always get it. It might not be on my timetable, but it's never late. I could tell you things I have seen and done, and you would never believe me, but they are just as we were promised by Yeshua in the scriptures,
Joh 14:12 Yes, indeed! I tell you that whoever trusts in me will also do the works I do! Indeed, he will do greater ones, because I am going to the Father.
Joh 14:13 In fact, whatever you ask for in my name, I will do; so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Joh 14:14 If you ask me for something in my name, I will do it.
Joh 14:15 "If you love me, you will keep my commands;
Joh 14:16 and I will ask the Father, and he will give you another comforting Counselor like me, the Spirit of Truth, to be with you forever.
This is what being filled with the Holy Spirit is for me. It is having that comforting Counselor, the Spirit of Truth, and in that a heart lined up with the Divine purpose for my life. It convicts me of my errors, it calls me to spend sacred time with the Lord, and it promps me to examine all there is within and without. I really am not expressing fully the unction or knowing that this infilling does. We choose moment by moment to listen or not. We do not become robots without a mind or desires of our own. As we mature we learn to follow our true hearts love or our own petty desires. Each choice propels us on our journey to maturing spiritually. Each decision either makes us a fit vessel that hears and knows the will of the Divine or an unfit vessel doing it's best in the world on it's own.

[B]===
'Righteousness' is right use of mind. Seeing the whole, or interpreting from the highest perception possible is right use of mind.
It's not so fantastic reaper, it's just that different traditions like to assign different fanciful qualities to what's a fairly normal active function.
There is a whole and unbound aspect of you that has never lost awareness of your Source.
Or rather you as a self identified 'self' is an aspect of it.
The awe and respect that those traditions hold for the concept is perfectly appropriate.
That some personify it and think of it as outside of them is the same misunderstanding of our relationship with Source.
The 'gifts' associated with that experience aren't special, but they're more special than not utilizing those abilities.
Your examples were a bit confused with other things you think you can't do.
I think the difference might be 'what do you use them for?' That might determine the quality and seeming gnosis.
A more useful example is in your own choice making. The 'still small voice', if you can hear it and listen responsibly,
is a manifestation of the Holy Spirit. Imagine that experience as limitless access to limitless ability and understanding.
See there might be a range of experience beginning with simple empathy or compassion.
Surviving brazen bulls and feeding multitudes out of a basket might be less common. Or necessary.
It's not direct contact with God, it's direct communication with the Self that knows God.
It's revealed in a lot of ways. Obvious and fantastic, and not so obvious and maybe unnoticed entirely.

I have experienced, many times "being filled with the Holy spirit." It is a true feeling of overwhelming love. I have experienced falling out in the spirit, it is like passing out but still aware.
I recall lying on the floor but I was observing my body from above while at the same time my body was paralyzed but the overwhelming feeling of love is indescribable, was it in my mind? Of course it was in my mind after all everything we experience in life is in the mind. I believe know after learning about meditation and the Chakras and astral projection that Christians that say they have experienced "being filled with the Holy Spirit" are actually experiencing meditation or even astral projection but do not understand these things because they have been told that what they are experiencing is the Holy Spirit. Christianity does not promote meditation or your power from within but rather teaches you that you are nothing without God. I believe relion has been twisted to take away peoples true powers that we each and
everyone have within. Why do we have to be told what to believe, after all we each have a soul and all you have to do to find your real power is look within and trust your heart!
