Hello
I have been troubled by a particular type of excema that only affects my hands and feet. This came about less than a year ago. Its OK now but I went to the doctor and of course I was perscribed with steriod cream and all sorts of chemical gunk to put on my hands. The doctor can help me no further, usless really, the doctors need to get with the times and realise that people are no longer viewing their doctors like gods.
I did try chinese medicine and it worked really well, the problem is its really expensive.
Does anyone on this forum know anything about excema, how is it caused? How can nobody know anything about excema? Does anyone have any alternative information about this? About the causes? I know its related to stress but that seems like such a useless observation as this cant be the only explanation.
Any info or opinions appreciated.

There are many nutrients that help but you might find them expensive too.

Depending on what you can afford, I will list the nutrients in order of importance for your condition.

B complex
Probiotics
Fish Oils
Vitamin E
Vitamin A
Vitamin D
Vitamin C

Detoxification of your system is recommended for any health condition as is a diet high in green vegetables.

Hello Conec,

Eczema is a real drag and can be difficult to clear up. I have quite a bit of experience with it so hopefully this will help you.

1. Diet! First thing you want to do is get all dairy and wheat out of the diet. I have seen this alone work on some people.
2. You commented on finances - so I don't know how much you have to spend on supplements but I would get a really good pro-biotic. Garden of Life has a good one: Primal Defense, look for one with boulardii saccharomyces, this is a friendly bacteria that takes down candida which is often indicated with eczema.
3. By far the best luck I have had with clearing up eczema permanently is homeopathy. I had a beautiful young woman with the worst weeping eczema on her face and hands and nothing she had tried had helped. We treated her with homeopathic Sulpher and within a little over a week she came in with clear skin. And as far as I know the eczema never came back.

This is a classic treatment protocol you can try.

Take Sulpher 200 C for ten days, one dose a day.

To take a homeopathic remedy dispense five pellets into the cap, never your hand.

Without touching the pellets toss them under your tongue and let them dissolve there.

Do not drink or eat anything 15 minutes before or after.

Do not brush teeth at least an hour before or after.

Avoid menthol, camphor and other highly odorous substances.

Some homeopaths say to avoid coffee, though I don't usually think it makes a difference, especially if the person is a coffee drinker.

Homeopathy is an individualized medicine and it is best if you can have a practitioner evaluate your case to find the exact remedy, though Sulphur is very often the remedy to begin with in the case of eczema.

Hope this helps.

Christine

Try putting a filter on your shower head to eliminate (or at least reduce) the amount of impurities you are bathing in every day.
There are a variety of effecive filters on the market that will remove (or reduce) the amount of chlorine, fluoride, mercury, lead, other heavy metals, rust, bacteria, algae etc from the water coming out of your shower head.
I have known quite a few eczema sufferers who have either completely gotten rid of their eczema or drastically reduced their symptoms simply by doing as I have suggested above.
You may find this to be a very simple, effecitve, and low cost solution to your skin problems.
Good luck!

In the documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead (http://www.fatsickandnearlydead.com/) he supposedly cures himself of eczema following a juice fast among other dietary choices. I have no first-hand experience with eczema myself, though I have done the juice fast, and it was a great thing; his dietary recommendations in general are good. Maybe worth a try? Either way, hope you find something that works.

Just wamted tp add to the above...

It is my suspicion that many of the symptoms of eczema (as well as other similar skin conditions) are manifested and exacerbated by regular exposure to impurities and chemicals that are commonly found in public waters supplies.
It is also my suspicion that in some cases the symptoms of such skin conditions are manifested as a direct result of allergic reactions or irritations caused by constant exposure to such impurities/chemicals.
I believe some of us are more resistant to such irritations and allergic reations than others too, probably due to our individual/specific genetics.
Those of us who are genetically predisposed to have a lower resistance will generally be the one's who end up suffering from conditions such as eczema IMO.
I have encouraged a number of friends and family members who've suffered from eczema (and other skin conditions as well) to filter their bathing water and in ALL of those cases this has led to SIGNIFICANT improvements (usually within as little as 1-3 days).
I know what I am suggesting probably sounds too good to be true as it is such a simple solution... but in my experience sometimes the simplest solutions are often the most effecive ;)
I will also add that many of the freinds and family members I mentioned above had invested huge amounts of time and money into various medical, homeopathic, nautopathic, herbal, and othe alterate treatments/reemedies with little to no succcess.
But, after slapping a simple filter on their shower heads their aggrevating, irritating, and frustrating symptoms were "magically" eliminated and/or reduced... funny that!
Anyway, just thought I should elablorate a little on my previous post for anyone who might have been wondering where I was coming from... hope this helps :)

Vitamin C flush worked wonders for me for immediate healing. There are easy-to-follow instructions at this website: http://www.helenhall.com/articles/vitamin_c_2.asp

I take a dose every 15 minutes and take at least 1.5 g per dose. The first time I did a flush I needed about 32 g, so allow for a whole day to do the flush. You need to fast the whole time you do it.

However, I think that the cause of eczema may be different for each person and thus the cure may be different. What works for you will be what resonates with you and you may have to try a few cures before you find the one that works for you.

Kefir can be used to fight eczema.
It's full of pro-biotics and has lots of health benefits in other areas.

http://www.thehealthbenefitsof.net/2012/03/kefir/

There is a very large number of kefir health benefits. Because kefir has antibiotic and antifungal properties it can help with yeast infections, heart disease and HIV or AIDS. It also can improve digestion and help with digestive problems like gas and bloating. It is a good source of many vitamins and minerals, like vitamins A, B, K and D and minerals like calcium and magnesium. Kefir can also help with intestinal problems. This miraculous drink can also help with some health conditions like gastritis, pancreatitis, eczema, psoriasis, rheumatism, arthritis, osteoporosis, anemia etc. Kefir has a stimulating effect on the immune system and it can calm the nerves of the body. As a last from this kefir health benefits, we will list that kefir has very powerful antioxidants and anti-aging properties. Have in mind that there are many more health benefits of kefir that we have not included in this article because simply there are too much of them.

Thanks Christine,

We have a little girl (20 months) who suffers from bad attacks of eczema and we never tried this one.
Strange actually when you think about the fact that my dad is a Homeopath and we have the Sulpher in our Homoeopathic remedy kit.

I'll let you know if it has any success.

Hi SDV, I had a look at the link, but it does not say that you have to fast?

You could drink juice, but better not to eat until the flush is over. Simply put, toxins are flushed out via your colon so it is not a good idea to keep putting more stuff in your colon while you are trying to clean it out.
Here are a couple more links about the vitamin C flush (the second gives info about research):

May I suggest plenty of sleep, good nutrition, sunlight on your skin - especially the affected parts. You might also try hemp seed oil, both as a dietary supplement and applied directly to the eczema.

From personal experience and years of research I now believe that eczema is not a disease but simply a symptom of something else going on in your system. Eczema is actually an auto-immune disease. Therefore, eczema is telling you that your system is overwhelmed. First thing to do, find the stressors in your life and try to eliminate them one by one. Then very important a detox. A good detox starts slowly and should be maintained for at least 4 months. Slowly eliminate from your food dairies and gluten and add more organic vegetables to your diet and drink plenty of good water. Also it could be very interesting to check for parasites in your system. They often create such a condition. No quick fix for eczema but the good thing is that it can be fix with a change of habits and for good!

There is not a single dermatologiest on the planet that will be able to diagnose what is causing your eczema, nor exactly how to cure it. It is a mystery for each individual. For some people is is an allergy related to things in the diet that are not tolerated well. This intolerance can come out of the blue, when you've never had it before. An elimination diet is required to figure out what the culprit is. I have seen soy be the problem several times. Look at your protient foods first.

For other people eczema symptoms are actually a pathogen in the skin that the docs do not know how to recognize. In cases like this MMS will be greatly helpful, taken orally and applied topically. MMS can be very strong for some people on the skin so apply it. Leave it on for 3 minutes then rinse it off.

Homeopathy can certainly cure many skin issues and sulphur is a leading remedy, but sulphur is also a remedy known to aggravate considerably some conditions so be careful with it. I gave it to my son for allergies in 200c and after a week or two he develope a patch of skin on his leg and mid back that looked and felt like old leather, about 6 inches by 6 inches. this is called an aggravation and sulphur 200c is known for doing stuff like this. The manefestation of an aggravation can have many different appearances. So I had to treat for the aggravation and I selected a sulphur in 30c, only one dose to undo the extreme aggravation... but after we were done his allergies were gone and it also cured his scoliosis in his back.

I would suggest drink a tea of red and white clover flowers, often in the day. This is particularly good if there are any kind of breathing issues that co occur with the eczema. This is also the drink to give infants with eczema/asthma syndrome.

Eczema can be likened to an attack upon ourselves. Find the place within you that needs healing, and offer this aspect recognition and unconditional love.

I will wish you well, but you will be the one who heals yourself. This is as it always is. Love is healing, so we love ourselves well.

Fasting is not necessary but highly recommended since it speeds up the flushing of toxins and brings about the healing process and clearing of skin much faster.

Wow I was right when I thought it was a good idea to ask you guys, such a fountain of knowledge on this forum. You all have made me realise that there are a lot ways to deal with eczema. On the other hand the doctors have only one way of dealing with it, steroids and petroleum based creams. I think my body reacted to chemicals. Thanks everyone. I was wondering just one thing, as ytou might know, when recovering from a bad episode my hands a very dry and sore. I have a big tub of lotion but its just pure chemicals. Do you guys know of any cream/lotion that is natural to use, to order online. I have been looking for creams but I'm not even sure what kind of chemicals I should avoid in products that claim to be natural but then I find they have harsh chemicals in them too. I've wasted money on different lotions and I now have a collection of them. Any ideas.
Also do you guys think there is a connection between gluten intolerance and excema?

Here's a short article about the benefits of using hempseed oil to treat eczema symptoms that you may find interesting/useful..

There are a lot of eczema remedies on the market today, most of them involve using creams and potions or taking drugs. Have you tried Hemp Seed Oil yet?

There are many reasons why you should give it a try, but let's look at three of the most important ones.

Tip # 1 - First, as eczema remedies go, Hemp Seed Oil is one of the best natural moisturizers you can find. That's because it contains essential fatty acids. You see, the outer layer of your skin is called the epidermis and if your epidermal layer is not well hydrated and moisturized, it can cause any number of skin problems, including eczema.

This is one of the best eczema remedies available because it contains compounds that closely resemble the lipids in your skin. Lipids are fats that hold your skin cells together and keep your epidermal layer of skin strong and smooth. So, this oil doesn't just moisturize your skin by sitting on the surface, it actually penetrates and invigorates it making it one of the best hydrating remedies.

Tip # 2 - The second tip, one of the qualities that puts this oil on the list of best eczema remedies is that it reduces itching and inflammation. It does that because it contains gamolenic acid (GLA), which is also known as gamma linolenic acid. GLA, is an essential fatty acid that is excellent at reducing itchiness, irritation and inflammation. If you have eczema, you know that that is, by far, the biggest problem an eczema sufferer has. Any successful treatment must absolutely reduce your itching, if they are going to be useful at all.

Tip # 3 - The third, tip is Hemp oil is natural. If you aren't a fan of commercial medications, which often come with nasty side-effects, you should try this natural oil. If other eczema treatments have come up short of your expectations, a more holistic approach might just be the answer you're looking for.

Well after asking about the connection between excema and celiac disease I spent the night doing some research. I'm quite shocked actually. Ther is a huge connection (although with the other symptoms of celiac disease which I have had all my life) between the tow as they are both immune deficiencies.
Here is the link to a blog about a person living with celiac disease and a lot of posts from people who were at their wits end until they removed gluten from their diets.

Do you guys know of any cream/lotion that is natural

Nothing beats organic coconut oil. It is also the best thing to cook with. Pawpaw ointment is also good, but not the Lucas variety in the red tub because that is also petroleum based. Really, to repeat myself - coconut oil, you need nothing else. I use it on my daughter's excema, it's also good for things like impetigo (school sores), ring worm etc.

Gluten, yes, it is the pits if you are especially suseptible, but the closer you get to "heirloom" or "ancient" grains, the better the body tolerates the gluten. Remove all gluten and all dairy from your diet, then try introducing things like kamut or spelt, or source grains such as quinoa or amaranth. Keep a food diary. Reintroduce milk, raw if you can get it without risking imprisonment. My feeling is we can all tolerate sensible amounts of ancient forms of gluten-bearing grains and milk, the problem is that we consume too much. It goes without saying of course that we are talking about organic wholegrains here, and organic raw (unpasturised) milk.

In the olden days, before steroids, eczema used to be treated with coal tar ointment. It maybe that is what people are talking about with petroleum products, but i remember it as a blackish cream that smelt awful! Another remedy also used was to take baths with dilute Pinetarsil, which was very good at stopping the itch. Whilst the coal tar ointment was effective, it was not as pleasant to use as the steroid cream, and like with the steroid cream, the eczema would come back. To be honest I do not think there is a cure as we usually do not know the cause of it and it seems to be a lifelong ailment for some people.

I’ve tried many creams. But the combination that works the fastest in my son’s case is a mixture of Tea Tree Oil (few drops) and Thompson’s calendula ointment (not cream).
Short info about the ointment:

Calendula Ointment (40 ML) - Thompson Homeopathic
A natural, anti-septic, anti-inflammatory cream, effective in aiding in and accelerating the healing of burns, open wounds, bruises, eczema, diaper rash and other common skin irritations. Also effective as a topical treatment for varicose veins, Thompson's Calendula Ointment is an excellent topical first aid treatment from a natural plant source.

Hi Christine,

I asked my father (who is a homoeopath for 35 years) about Sulphur and eczema and though it is prescribed for people with eczema, precaution is needed when using homeopathic Sulpher. It is one of the very few remedies in Homoeopathy that is notorious for worsening the symptoms when applied without a personal fit for it.
It should only be used after a investigation that persons constitution.

We tried several things now for our little one and nothing seems to help really.
Hempseed oil, different washing powder, clothings, take away dairy products etc.
The only thing that helps a little is putting her to bed with a pyjama that disables her to scratch herself during sleep.

We keep on trying!

Lots of interesting remedies offered in this thread, marvellous!

It seems that your tip about hemp-seed oil is working after all D-Day.
We have been using it for more then a month now and it's safe to say that her attacks of eczema are not as bad as they used to be.
And also.... the itch seemed to have almost gone and that is a pure blessing for our little one.

Thanks for pointing this out!

Oh and further, we are bathing her in baths with an addition of a cup of Celtic sea salt too.
Not sure if anyone here mentioned about this, but this seems to work too.

Still waiting to find me some raw coconut oil. See what that does.
