An Egyptian protester shouts slogans as he holds a shoe on a portrait of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton outside the US embassy in Cairo on July 14, 2012 to protest against her visit to the country.
Hillary Clinton has been welcomed in Egypt by locals greeting her motorcade with tomatoes, shoes and water bottles. Rallying protesters showed awareness with US domestic policy history, chanting “Monica, Monica”.
The two-day visit by the US secretary of state to Egypt ended in scandal when the convoy she was driving in from the newly-opened American consulate in the Mediterranean port of Alexandria was attacked by local citizens chanting anti-American slogans.
The protesting crowds hailed the motorcade with vegetables and other objects, reportedly hitting one of the Egyptian officials in the convoy in the face. The American armored motorcade suffered only superficial damage while Hillary Clinton’s car remained intact.
There have been reports of the protesters chanting "Leave, Clinton” and "Monica, Monica," presumably referring to the scandal with the secretary’s husband, former US President Bill Clinton’s extra-marital affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
The protesters were holding banners in Arabic and English, accusing the US of interfering into Egypt’s internal affairs.

The protests against Clinton’s visit to Egypt started on Saturday when the US secretary of state met with Egypt's new President Mohammed Morsi, an Islamist protégée of the Muslim Brotherhood. Demonstrators surrounded Clinton’s hotel later on Saturday, chanting anti-Islamist slogans and putting the blame on Washington for the Islamists’ rise to power and victory in the country’s presidential elections.

Many of the protesters accused Mohammed Morsi of "selling out" to Washington.
“I want to tell the Americans who are supporting democracy that we don't have any democracy in Egypt,” one demonstrator, Ahmed Abdel Alim, told AP. “Egyptians of all sects – Muslims, Christians and minorities – do not have any rights in this country.”
During her visit to Egypt, the US Secretary of State also met with Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, the head of the military council of Egypt that currently holds power in the country.
Clinton urged the Egyptian military to transfer power in full to the newly-elected president, who was sworn in two weeks ago.
Still, just hours after the meeting with Clinton, the head of the Egyptian military took a hard line on Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood on Sunday, stating he is against Islamist fundamentalists dominating the country’s political landscape

The $64,000 question is "When will Americans do this in mass?" to almost all politicians, not just this war-monger. I pray it's soon because times will get tough after this years election.

I am informed by an Egyptian man that the Moslem Brotherhood is now controlling the middle east and that the MB believes that the Americans will help them. The Egyptians do not want a Theocracy in their country and there will be another revolution. They also are not happy about what happened in Libya and what is continuing to happen in Palestine. They are aware that what is happening all over the middle east and in Africa is being manipulated. I am informed by a very knowledgeable Iranian man that he believes the once the Moslem Brotherhood gets firm control of Egypt with America's help, the real killing will start as it did in Iran.

I wonder if the Iranian and Egyptian men are Muslims. There are non-Muslims in these countries who also believe in the Islamic boogie man. All heavy handed movements have support from the usual troublemakers who, with countless proxies, have left a trail of blood and mayhem through scores of centuries. None of this stuff is organic or homegrown. It just looks that way because of the funding of local malcontents who often are less local than they appear. This is the same old tired contrivance.
Once upon a time........they didn't live happily ever after.
No happy until people wake up to the same old manipulations.

Your reply would imply that I either said or implied that Egyptians are stupid. I did neither.
Just keeping the record straight here. The sloppiness of language usage never ceases to amaze me. If I stay in this conversation, I can certainly be called stupid.
And now, for real....:bolt:

Sorry, I didn't mean that. It was just a comment the Egyptian guy made. He said they weren't stupid; they knew it was all a manipulation. It might be his resentment of the American government at the moment showing through his words or his concern that Americans do not know what is going on in the middle east. He wanted to know how many people here, on this continent, knew what the American government was doing. I told him, I thought maybe 50 percent had some idea of it. So, I guess his question was, in fact, how much do we know, here, on this continent and how many know it. He said there is going to be another revolution in Egypt before the end of the month.
I have spoken with many Egyptians over the years on another sort of forum. This guy is quite a bright guy and I've had many conversations with him over the years, but haven't heard from him for about a year. Then he suddenly appeared wanting to talk to me and asking how many people here knew what was going on in the middle east.

Americans especially those who think they are politically and or spiritually aware don't know what is going on the middle east.
...the don't know what's going on with themselves let alone cultures they don't understand when they don't understand or are even aware of their own CULT-ure.
This is a power struggle that has been going on for thousands of years and its source isn't really one particular race, or people, they just end up doing the dirty work.
Long ago Arabic cultures were very intellectual, very hospitable to all strangers (a strained custom that exists in a strained way today) very creative, very artistic, friendly, open, hospitable, expansive, progressive. They have tried sorely and futiely to hold on to a few remnants of their golden age. Throw in a few crusades, kill off the best part of any people and then go wonder why they as a people are hostile and defensive and don't like the West (who promoted the Crusades).
Americans are very white bread, they have no culture. They don't have connection with racial ancestor or genetic memories-the whole point of America was to be a melting pot to burn / dilute that away-- and some cultures genetically hold grudges and grievances that you really can't blame them for. Americans being as bland as they are can't understand what boils in the blood of some people who haven't been westernized or west-domesticated.

er....not all Muslims are fundamentalists...just like all Americans aren't fundamentalist Christians.
While they do believe in family structure and traditions and they are very close to their families; they aren't all that different from Americans except they have the Koran. Most of the Egyptian people I know are very moderate. I used to asked them about the Koran and they would say well, I don't really know, I haven't read it. Sound familiar?
How would American's like to have a Theocracy running their government? I don't think its hard to understand at all on that level.

Perhaps that is where I see the similarity in the fight. There are some differences though. A few year's back, I remember talking to the Egyptians about 9/11 and no matter what I said the Egyptian answer was "it's the Jews". Now, it seems, there is some understanding that the Israeli's are being manipulated as well.

This is a video from last year that might shed some light on Egypt:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzRNNpjXuNA&feature=player_embedded
She says basically that religion is always used by the powers that be to put down social justice movements and that we need an international people's court to deal with our high level criminals who are laughing all the way to the bank.
(The beauty of using religion in order to divide and conquer is that it not only confuses from within; it also confuses the people outside the conflict who think the whole thing is just too complicated to understand. Its not. We, the people of the world, are, in a very real sense, all the same).

I made that comment based on the signs I saw held at the protests and the text I read (which could be very contrary to reality). I consider that a very "political" protest and as such those people are reacting exactly as desired & not unexpectedly creating MORE tension, they are brushing the surface of a lake with a broom and wondering why the water isn't going away...
the depth of the issues going on in that area is astounding, there are strong political divisions all the way down to the "village" level, the Arabs have been subdivided and super conquered so definitively that they will gladly kill their brothers (Kurds, Shiite, Sunni etc..) for little to no reason & sleep BETTER at night as they considered their actions "very good".
IN FACT, this is one of the main tactics that was used to keep “detainees” (prisoners) tractable and docile at the FOB I was deployed to,, if you’re a Sunni in a prison SURROUNDED by Shiite’s you’d rather stay IN the cage then break out of it…. (deep tactics prevail, even at the lowest levels).
The time I spent in the middle east was very eye opening but I do not think these people are very aware of the depth of the issues they are involved in, not by a LONG LONG shot (which is also, by design).
From what I recall the Muslim Brotherhood is an MI6 contrived group much like "Al Queda" was created by the US's CIA; so things are headed right where they are planned to be from what I can see.

http://middleeast.about.com/od/religionsectarianism/a/me070907sunnis.htm
It says 90 percent of the Muslims in Egypt are Sunnis and provides a description of the differences in their beliefs and those of the Shiites.
But I still bet the real issues are different. Its like Northern Ireland. We were supposed to believe that the problem was Protestant/Catholic which was a load of BS (except for a few nutcases). For many of the Protestants in Northern Ireland, that problem was not exactly Catholicism it WAS the Theocracy. For the people in the South, the problem was not the Protestants, it WAS, the division of the country and the powers that were in the British Government. Yet we were supposed to believe that they were so stupid to fight over religion. This is how the real problems are obfuscated.
Of course there always are people naive enough to believe what they are told and who will fight over stupidities.
The media doesn't help because its almost entirely BS. And then when people read that BS they even get that wrong. I always remember the time I told someone I was going to Ireland for the summer (in the 80s) and they asked me "But what about the bombing?". I couldn't think what bombing they were talking about but that was the picture they had of Ireland...a war zone.
although there were a few pubs that got fixed up with the insurance money...:)
