bogeyman

"On Nov. 15, 1966, two young couples from Point Pleasant, Roger and Linda Scarberry, and Steve and Mary Mallette told police they saw a large white creature whose eyes "glowed red" when the car headlights picked it up. They described it as a "flying man with ten foot wings" following their car while they were driving in an area of town known as 'the TNT area', the site of a former World War II munitions plant.

During the next few days, other people reported similar sightings. Two volunteer firemen who sighted it said it was a "large bird with red eyes". Mason County Sheriff George Johnson commented that he believed the sightings were due to an unusually large heron he termed a "****epoke". Contractor Newell Partridge told Johnson that when he aimed a flashlight at a creature in a nearby field its eyes glowed "like bicycle reflectors", and blamed buzzing noises from his television set and the disappearance of his German Shepherd dog on the creature.[7] Wildlife biologist Dr. Robert L. Smith at West Virginia University told reporters that descriptions and sightings all fit the Sandhill Crane, a large American crane almost as high as a man with a seven foot wingspan featuring circles of reddish coloring around the eyes, and that the bird may have wandered out of its migration route.

There were no Mothman reports in the immediate aftermath of the December 15, 1967 collapse of the Silver Bridge and the death of 46 people, giving rise to legends that the Mothman sightings and the bridge collapse were connected."

There have been man reports of this elusive creature, there have been reports going back many centuries, it still remains active as ever:

"Subject: Mothman sighting

I was watching a rerun of "Unsolved Mysteries" and they did a segment on a phenomenon called the "Mothman". I was chilled to the bone when I saw it, so I did a Google search and found your website.

In July of 1995, a female friend and myself were driving back to her home in Bonneau, SC, along a lonely stretch of Hwy. 52 between Moncks Corner, SC, and Bonneau; which at the time was very desolate. It was a nice evening and I had the sunroof open on my '95 Honda. At a curve in the road, I had to slam on brakes because there was what appeared to be a man standing in the road. I stopped inches from this creature that climbed on the hood of my (brand new) car and it had red eyes and what appeared to be large wings.

My friend, Marion, told me to "floor it", so I stepped on the gas pedal and the thing rolled off the car. About a mile down the road, the "thing" was hovering above the sunroof of my car, staring down at us. I pressed the button to shut the sunroof, but it wouldn't close. I reached about 100 mph when I decided to stop the car. The "thing" flew past us and disappeared into the woods. We then proceeded to drive to Marion's house, where she lived with her parents at the time. We didn't speak a word the entire time we were driving, which was at least another 20 minutes or so.

When we pulled into Marion's parents' driveway, she asked me to come in. She woke up her dad and asked him for "the drawing of the thing". He went into his study and produced from his desk a piece of paper on which was drawn an exact picture of what we had just encountered. Marion, who was 28 at the time, had seen this "thing" while in high school. She was a cheerleader and was driving home from practice when the very thing happened her. It seems nobody believed her until the night the two of us saw this thing together.

The next day I noticed deep scratches in the hood of my car and some small dents. The sunroof's rubber lining had melted.

I have had recurring dreams about this creature since the encounter, which was over ten years ago now. I even thought I spotted it along I-64 in Virginia between Richmond and I-81 while driving during a business trip.

Please don't think I'm crazy -- I am a well-educated professional. I would prefer if you post my story, you simply use my first name because I don't want my co-workers thinking I'm crazy!

The Jersey Devil

"It is said that in 1735 a Mrs Leeds who lived in New Jersey became pregnant for the 13th time, 13 being an inauspicious number prompted the woman to predict that her baby would turn out to be a devil. Mrs Leeds upon birth was proven to be correct as her offspring was born a hideous monstrosity, with a horses head, bats wings, cloven hoofs and a tail. This is said to have been the birth of the Jersey Devil, and upon birth it is said to have flown away into the forests of southern New Jersey.
Little was heard of the Jersey Devil following this until 1909, at which point over 100 sightings of the Jersey Devil were reported. One sighting of the jersey devil involved a postmaster from Pennsylvania who claims to have seen a glowing ram-headed creature flying over the Delaware river. Two others also witnessed the apparition including a police officer who opened fire at it.
Descriptions given by those who claimed to have sighted the Jersey Devil were varied, some claimed the creature had a horses head whilst others claimed it had the head of a ram, others claimed that it breathed fire and had skin like a crocodile. The last reported sighting of the Jersey Devil took place on the 24th of February 1909 when a farmer from Salem County claimed to have seen a strange bird-like creature with human feet.

The creature did not return again until 1927. A cab driver was changing a tire one night while headed for Salem. He had just finished when his car began shaking violently. He looked up to see a gigantic, winged figure pounding on the roof of his car. The driver, leaving his jack and flat tire behind, jumped into the car and quickly drove away. He reported the encounter to the Salem police.
In August 1930, berry pickers at Leeds Point and Mays Landing reported seeing the Devil, crashing through the fields and devouring blueberries and cranberries. It was reported again two weeks later to the north and then it disappeared again.
In November 1951, a group of children were allegedly cornered by the Devil at the Duport Clubhouse in Gibbstown. The creature bounded away without hurting anyone but reports claimed that it was spotted by dozens of witnesses before finally vanishing again.
Sightings continued here and there for years and then peaked once more in 1960 when bloodcurdling cries terrorized a group of people near Mays Landing. State officials tried to calm the nervous residents but no explanation could be found for the weird sounds. Policemen nailed signs and posters everywhere stating that the Jersey Devil was a hoax, but curiosity-seekers flooded into the area anyway. Harry Hunt, who owned the Hunt Brothers Circus, offered $100,000 for the capture of the beast, hoping to add it to his sideshow attractions. Needless to say, the monster was never snared.
The most recent sighting of the creature was said to have been in 1993 when a forest ranger named John Irwin was driving along the Mullica River in southern New Jersey. He was startled to find the road ahead of him blocked by the Jersey Devil. He described it as being about six-feet tall with horns and matted black fur. Could this have been the reported Jersey Devil – or some other creature altogether? Irwin stated that he and the creature stared at one another for several minutes before the monster finally turned and ran into the forest.
Today, there are only a few, isolated sightings of the Jersey Devil. It seems as though the paved roads, electric lights and modern conventions that have come to the region over the course of two and a half centuries have driven the monster so far into hiding that it has vanished altogether. The lack of proof of the monster’s existence in these modern times leads many to believe the Devil was nothing more than a creation of New Jersey folklore. But was it really?
If it was merely a myth, then how do we explain the sightings of the creature and the witness accounts from reliable persons like businessmen, police officers and even public officials? They are not easy to dismiss as hearsay or the result of heavy drinking. Could the Jersey Devil have been real after all? And if so, is it still out there in the remote regions of the Pine Barrens – just waiting to be found?"

Batsquatch sighted at Mt. Shasta

"The closest thing to what the caller describes is a creature called the Batsquatch. Batsquatch is seen at Mount St. Helens. Some people theorize that when Mount St. Helens erupted it also opened up a dimensional portal, in which the Batsquatch entered. Just like the TNT factory at Point Pleasant may have caused a dimensional rift that brought in the Mothman. The Batsquatch has been around since 1980 and has been seen into present times. Some small animals have been savagely slaughtered near and around Mt. St. Helens, could this be the results of a feeding frenzy orchestrated by the Batsquatch? If so, then this cryptid creature would be carnivorous. Descriptions of the Batsquatch is that it has the head of a bat, red eyes, purple skin and wings of a pterodactyl. Mt. Shasta has not erupted since possibly 1786 as observed by French Naval Officer/explorer Jean-Francois de Galaup or maybe by some Spanish explorers. Could the sighting of a Batsquatch creature near Mt. Shasta be the sign of a future eruption? There are so many strange and mysterious sightings thoughout our whole universe. Without actually seeing the creature that the caller describes, I can't determine what the caller may have seen with surety. All I can do is tell the caller is that the next time I am back in Mt. Shasta with my scouts, we will be looking for Lemurians, UFOs, Bigfoot, ghosts, Count Saint-Germaine and now......Batsquatch!

What you didn't know that Count Saint Germaine was sighted in Mt. Shasta? It's true, he supposingly met up with an author on the slopes of Mt. Shasta in the 1930s. The author claimed that Count St. Germaine told him that he was living in the caverns of Mt. Shasta. The legend of Count St. Germaine is baffling. He was a man that stepped out of nowhere, without a past and dazzled a French court. It was said that he would pop up from time to time across Europe and then would vanish for a period of time. His vanishing acts would generate gossip and rumors. Stories abound, that he was immortal, he owned the elixir of life, that he was a Rosicrucian, a spy and a king that remained incognito. My theory on Count Saint Germaine is that there were many people impersonating him. One of those people was no other than Aleister Crowley who in 1923 wrote in his diary, that he should put on a wig and impersonate Count Saint Germaine to start another legend. Then in 1926 Count Saint Germaine was spotted in Rome. Was this actually Aleister Crowley?"

Is the Mothman an inter dimensional being who feed on the fear/energy of others? It only seems to appear when a disaster occurs. It is also interesting that "Men In Black" reports occur in the same vicinity as these sightings.

I wonder whether, with the correct knowledge you could conjure (if this is the correct term) this creature or even communicate with it on some level..or is the level of consciousness we have not sufficient enough. After all it seems to appear at it own will..or is it responsible to some greater force...and doing it bidding?

I ponder whether by observing or watching grotesque events, the emotional reaction to the events, shows up in the aura and emanates to the surrounding..like you go into a room and you can feel somethings up. Would this negative energy attract the mothman. What if this energy gets absorbed by the surrounding, would this effect other people, cause an event to happen or a catalyst of some sorts. A vibrational interaction of some sort?

Hi Bogeyman

Five years ago I was talking with a friend of mine, she lives here in AZ. We found eachother online when she stumbled across a paper I had written saying I think a lot of ET bases are underground protecting themselves from negative multidimensional forces. We clicked because she thought that was the case with a local mountain we have in our own back yard called superstition mountain, and she had some personal stories to attest to that.

Okay I'm getting off track, anyway five years ago she introduced me to a book called "Hunt For the Skinwalker", and I have to say, It goes with John Keel's stuff like PB&J.

Mothman is a wild concept. I have driven over that bridge (the new one) in W. Virginia many times and never knew this story until recently. This is an interesting story that just won't go away and there must be something to it.
