Ah not exactly sure if our water is that bad, but that is exactly why I stay away from filters, too much cost and dependence, I prefer a little of my own maintenance, and something that relies on me doing something other then going out and spending on replacement filters except for the main one that comes into the house and that is more to catch rust and dirt.... and costs $5 every two or three months... same with my coffee pot, I lucked upon one of those old Corningware white ceramic percolators with the black rubber and glass lid ... no more bleached filters!...

Anyhow, I notice after a distillation, I do see a few square inches surface area around the heating element, of built up calcified stuff, it looks slightly brownish, and has a little off odour... I figure that must be the stuff they say calcifies on your pineal gland... glad to be rid of it...

This topic is hilarious considering what happened to me today. So I went into the kitchen today to get some water. Of course, my roommates didn't refill the water pitcher and it takes awhile once you pour the water into the pitcher for it to filter and I didn't want to wait for water. So I turned towards the sink to get some water, pulled the handle to turn it on, stopped; starred at the sink then turned back towards the pitcher watching the water slowly drip into it. Turned back to the sing, back to the pitcher...I did this several times LOL! Then finally I was like screw it, and used the water from the sink LOL... Now i'm seeing this thread lol

I can actually smell our tap water from time to time. The new Berkey arrived last week.

This filter has probably never been cleaned in its lifetime. This could have happened due to water main breaks, new construction, never bleeding your lines, crossed water lines etc. I would not be surprised if this guy sells water filtrations systems for a living.

I use a water distiller and just after a few times you can see how much waste product is at the bottom of it. I showed my mum the contents just to prove what is in normal tap water and she was SHOCKED! She hates the unit in her kitchen but now she fully understands why i use it..

After all, Fluoride is rat poison. How the hell are we expected to drink and brush our teeth with it!?
