RIP Freedom of speech.
No matter what, no one should give up their rights, math330. Not even to joke about it. The fact is, the jerks in DC are the only ones giving up theirs. They have passed illegal laws that will bring them down. They're traitors to the American people, no doubt about it....Our rights are intact as long as WE don't give them up.... The nonsense in DC needs to end already. They're only a corporation that should be allowed to crash and burn, so that the REAL American govt can be resurrected. All those corporate puppets and their deep pocketed overlords who have set up the downfall of this country are TRAITORS and need to be put in front of a firing squad. No trials since their activities speak for themselves. And as we're seeing more and more, they're the ones who gave up THEIR rights.... not us. No one gave them permission to do away with the Constitution, or any of our rights. They took that treachery upon themselves....
If you want to make any kind of declaration, let it be that there goes THEIR freedom of speech. Let's see how they like that....

Not sure I ever mentioned anybody giving up any rights. I agree, for what it's worth. Nobody should. Though, our rights are not intact anymore. What can you do about it? You protest or speak out and you risk getting nicked.
Arrested for facebook posts questioning the official line? Anybody should be allowed to question it without fear of prosecution, or even govt/ state involvement at any level.
it doesn't just stop with military personnel, either. Forms of protest and dissent, at least in the UK and moreso here in BKK, are met by an ever growing heavy handed police response and summary prosecution - where the offender is then savaged in the court system.
RIP Freedom of Speech.

Interesting that they show his facebook comments, which do not support any of the theories. Worth going back to that link by the way, it has been updated twice. The situation is looking confused now.
UPDATE: A previous version of this article said Raub was detained by the FBI. The FBI has told us their agents had "nothing to do" with his detainment and placement in a pyschiatric ward.
ORIGINAL: A former U.S. Marine who accused the government of lying about 9/11 and spoke of "The Revolution" on Facebook was detained on Thursday night, reports Renee Nal of Gather.
This could end up being an own goal by the suppressors - this is the kind of publicity they could do without.
Here is the worst part (if true):
"Raub's mother said Raub was told that he will see a judge on Monday but has not been told what he has been charged with and has not been read his rights."
Here is how he has been detained:
http://www.businessinsider.com/former-marine-brandon-raub-is-being-held-in-a-psychiatric-ward-over-facebook-posts-about-911-2012-8#ixzz246NcU2Uf
The Chesterfield PD – who had previously said the situation "was an FBI matter and we were just there to assist them" – released this statement (emphasis ours):
Chesterfield Police assisted federal authorities in their efforts to interview Brandon J. Raub on Thursday, Aug. 16. After speaking to Raub, officers believed him to be in need of further evaluation.
Chesterfield officers at the scene contacted Chesterfield Mental Health Crisis Intervention. Crisis workers recommended that police take Raub into custody and bring him in for evaluation.
Chesterfield police took Raub into custody for evaluation in accordance with Virginia State Code § 37.2-808 Emergency custody.
Raub was placed in handcuffs after he resisted officers’ attempts to take him into custody.
Raub was evaluated by a Chesterfield mental health official, who determined that he should be held under a temporary [detention] order and transported to John Randolph Medical Center for additional evaluation.
Raub was not arrested and he faces no criminal charges in Chesterfield.
The Virginia statute states that a mental health professional can decide to issue a temporary detention order if "it appears ... that the person (i) has a mental illness and that there exists a substantial likelihood that, as a result of mental illness, the person will, in the near future, (a) cause serious physical harm to himself or others as evidenced by recent behavior causing, attempting, or threatening harm and other relevant information, if any, or (b) suffer serious harm due to his lack of capacity to protect himself from harm or to provide for his basic human needs, (ii) is in need of hospitalization or treatment, and (iii) is unwilling to volunteer or incapable of volunteering for hospitalization or treatment."
It should be noted that the authority on whether or not Raub displayed signs of mental illness lies with the trained Chesterfield mental health official or officials who evaluated him in person.

See more videos and Gordon Duff at Veterans Today article with quotes from Brandon's legal representation here
http://www.veteranstoday.com/2012/08/21/marine-held-for-facebook-posts-veterans-today-offers-full-support/
The Rutherford Institute, a nonprofit civil liberties group, is representing 26-year-old Brandon Raub.
Here is the group’s complete, unedited statement on the incident:
The Rutherford Institute has come to the defense of a former Marine, 26-year-old Brandon Raub, who was arrested, detained indefinitely in a psych ward and forced to undergo psychological evaluations based solely on the controversial nature of lines from song lyrics, political messages and virtual card games which he posted to his private Facebook page.
Although the FBI and Chesterfield County police have not charged Brandon Raub, a resident of Chesterfield County, Va., with committing any crime, they arrested Raub on Thursday, August 16, 2012, and transported him to John Randolph Medical Center, where he was held against his will due to alleged concerns that his Facebook (FB) posts were controversial and “terrorist in nature.”
In a hearing held at the hospital, government officials disregarded Raub’s explanation that the Facebook posts were being interpreted out of context, sentencing him up to 30 days’ further confinement in a VA psych ward.
In coming to Raub’s defense, Rutherford Institute attorneys are challenging Raub’s arrest and forcible detention, as well as the government’s overt Facebook surveillance and violation of Raub’s First Amendment rights.
“For government officials to not only arrest Brandon Raub for doing nothing more than exercising his First Amendment rights but to actually force him to undergo psychological evaluations and detain him against his will goes against every constitutional principle this country was founded upon. This should be a wake-up call to Americans that the police state is here,” said John W. Whitehead, president of The Rutherford Institute.
“Brandon Raub is no different from the majority of Americans who use their private Facebook pages to post a variety of content, ranging from song lyrics and political hyperbole to trash talking their neighbors, friends and government leaders.”

The Truth
by Brandon J Raub on Friday, November 11, 2011 at 7:00am ·
----------------------------------
America has lost itself. We have lost who we truly are. This is the land of the free and the home of the brave. This is the land of Thomas Jefferson. This is the land of Benjamin Franklin. This is the land of Fredrick Douglas. This is the land of Smedley Butler. This is the land John F. Kennedy. This is the land of Martin Luther King. This is the land where the cowboy wins. This is the land where you can start from the bottom and get to the top. This is the land where regardless of you race and ethnicity you can suceed and build a better life for you and your family. This is the land where every race coexists peacefully. This is the land where justice wins. This is the land where liberty dwells. This is the land where freedom reigns. This is the land where we help the poor, and people help eachother. This is land where people beat racism.
The federal reserve is wrong. They have designed a system based off of gread and fear. They designed a system to crush the middle class between taxes and inflation. This is wrong, and it is unjust. It is wrong.
We have allowed ourselves to be devieced and seduced by the powers of the printing press. It is not a good system. It discourages saving: the foundation for all stable economic activity. The federal reserve is artificially manipulating interests rates and creating phony economic data. This thing has decieved our entire nation.
They created it 1913. They also created the income tax in 1913. They encouraged the growth of debt so they can tax you on it. There is interest on the debt. Your government is in bed with these people. They want to enslave you to the government so that they can control every aspect of your lives. It is an empire based on lies. They operate of greed and fear.
There is a better way. It's called freedom. Freedom is called a lot of things. But there is a true meaning. It means very simply that you have the right to do whatever you want as long as you are not infringing on the feedoms of other people.
I firmly believe that God set America apart from the other nations of the world. He saved a place where people could come to to escape bad systems of goverment. This system we have created works. It really works.
There is evil going on all around the world. The United States was meant to lead the charge against injustice, but through our example not our force. People do not respond to having liberty and freedom forced on them.
Men and Women follow courage. They follow leadership, and courage. Our example has paved the way for people all around the world to change their forms of goverment.
Force is not the way because liberty is a powerful concept. The idea that men can govern themselves is the basis for every just form of government.
We can govern ourselves. We do not need to be governed by men who want to install a one world banking system. These men have machine hearts. Machine and unnatural hearts. They have blocked out the possibility of a better world. They fear human progress. They have monopolies on everything.
This life can be free and beautiful. There are enough resources on this earth to support the world's population. There are enough resources on this earth to feed everyone. There is enough land for everyone to own their own land and farm, and produce their own energy.
These people have been hiding technology. There are ways to create power easily. There is technology that can provide free cheap power for everyone. There are farming techniques that can feed the entire world.
They are controlling your media. They have dumbed you down through your school systems. They have systematically dismantled the constitution. It is in rags.
The bill of rights is being systematically dismantled. Men have spilled their blood for those rights.
Your sons and daughters, your brothers and sisters, and Americas best young men and women are loosing their limbs. They are loosing their lives. They are loosing the hearts. They do not know why they are fighting. They are killing. And they do not know why.
They have done some extroadinary acts. Their deeds go before them. But these wars are lies. They are lies. They decieved our entire nation with terrorism. They have gotten us to hand them our rights. Our Rights! Men died for those rights!
September Eleventh was an inside job. They blew up a third building in broad daylight. Building 7.
Your leaders betrayed you.
You elected an aristocracy. They are beholden to special interests. They were brainwashed through the Council on Foreign Relations. Your leaders are planning to merge the United States into a one world banking system. They want to put computer chips in you.
These men have evil hearts. They have tricked you into supporting corporate facism. We gave them the keys to our country. We were not vigilant with our republic.
There is hope. BUT WE MUST TAKE OUR REPUBLIC BACK.

The VT coverage of release here:
http://www.veteranstoday.com/2012/08/23/marine-brandon-raub-freed-judge-rules-case-bogus/
have no source for this, but my intuition is that ‘higher authorities’ got wise to the Mayberry cops and mental health people going nuts here and decided to nip the damage in the bud.
Personally I think the arresting Goobers, mental health people and the first judge should spend a month under observation themselves as a proven threat to the public.
So our congrats go out to the Raub family for not having to go through weeks of mental anguish over this abuse, and to the Rutherford Institute for being Johnny on the Spot for Cpl. Raub.
Earlier today I learned more about what can only be described as a law enforcement three ring circus. Internet complaints came into the FBI about Brandon’s Facebook postings, which the FBI claimed they have to look into. You all savior that open back door for a moment. A handful of people can get together and trigger something like this and sic the Goobers on you.

Just thought I'd note that I received death threats and a woman friend co-activist received death threats from the same person - on Facebook and Youtube. I was persuaded (against my gut feelings) by another woman friend to please contact the FBI and local police, on behalf of the woman who was threatened (multiple times, I might add, including some sicko phrase about drinking her blood.) I was very reluctant to call the police and exceedingly reluctant to call the FBI. (Remember, the FBI in my home State of Minnesota raided anti-war activists homes not too long ago, because they were pro-Palestinian.) I really did not want to call the FBI. The threatened woman was frightened, but refused to call (she's an activist, and probably does not trust police and especially the FBI.) The other woman convinced me that I "had to" make the contact to get protection for this single mother... I kept thinking about what might happen to this woman... and I did call and sent them all the info they needed.
The FBI never responded to me, or to her. No return phone call. No return email.
The local police said they would not investigate (they even had the guy's phone number) because the prosecuting attorney said it is not illegal to make death threats. So, I talked to the city's prosecuting attorney, and he told me it is not illegal to make verbal or text death threats. I have a pretty strong feeling that it all depends on who gets threatened, as to what the response is. If it had been his own wife, I'm pretty sure the suspect would have been "talked to" rather quickly and forcefully.
Very interesting how Raub quoted song lyrics, aimed it at no one in particular... and had quite a different police response than someone who made direct death threats to two individuals. Almost makes you think the law enforcement system and criminal justice system are 100% corrupt. Almost.

Last Thursday, a US Marine was detained by the FBI and local authorities for posting what is being considered violent comments on the social media site Facebook. Although 26 year-old Brandon Raubwas detained and forced to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, he was not charged with any criminal misconduct. John Whitehead, a constitutional attorney representing Raub, joins us with his take on how the US government violated his client's first amendment rights.

Honestly, I'm surprised this thread hasn't garnered more interest. Perhaps it's because it was posted appropriately in the Current Events sections as opposed to the General section. It's a shame that more Avalonians don't venture out this way.
This case certainly appears to be an unveiling of the National Defense Authorization Act (http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c112:H.R.1540:) (NDAA), which Obama signed into effect December 31, 2011.
"On December 31, 2011, President Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), codifying indefinite military detention without charge or trial into law for the first time in American history. The NDAA’s dangerous detention provisions would authorize the president — and all future presidents — to order the military to pick up and indefinitely imprison people captured anywhere in the world, far from any battlefield." - ACLU (http://www.aclu.org/blog/tag/NDAA)
Psychiatrist Threatens & Terrorizes Marine Over 9/11 Facebook Posts (August 24, 2012)

Appearing on Infowars Nightly News with Alex Jones, John Whitehead, a constitutional attorney representing Raub, covers much of the same information covered in the previous video (RT America (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?48755-Former-Marine-Picked-up-Over-Facebook-Posts-Against-the-Official-9-11-Story&p=543733&viewfull=1#post543733)) posted by Cidersomerset. He does delve into slightly more detail since the interview is approximately 25 minutes; although, there are certainly many interjections by Jones.

@ Dennis,
It's disheartening to hear about your unfortunate circumstance. I wish you and your friend the best. You can guarantee the FBI would promptly be outside your door waiting to drag you off to some psychiatric facility in hope of getting to know you and your plan more intimately :eyebrows:, if the individual who threatened you and your friend had instead complained to the FBI that he was terrified by your terroristic threat of offering up The Reset Button (http://www.resetbutton2012.org/). :biggrin1: The current corruption is disgraceful!
I'm not surprised that seemingly every government official so callously dismissed your concerns; however, it does appear that there are Minnesota State statutes that could apply, 609.713 TERRORISTIC THREATS (https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/?year=2011&id=609.713#stat.609.713) and 609.749 STALKING; PENALTIES (https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/?year=2011&id=609.749#stat.609.749).
609.713 TERRORISTIC THREATS.
Subdivision 1.Threaten violence; intent to terrorize.
Whoever threatens, directly or indirectly, to commit any crime of violence with purpose to terrorize another or to cause evacuation of a building, place of assembly, vehicle or facility of public transportation or otherwise to cause serious public inconvenience, or in a reckless disregard of the risk of causing such terror or inconvenience may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than five years or to payment of a fine of not more than $10,000, or both. As used in this subdivision, "crime of violence" has the meaning given "violent crime" in section 609.1095, subdivision 1, paragraph (d).
609.749 STALKING; PENALTIES.
Subdivision 1.Definition.
As used in this section, "stalking" means to engage in conduct which the actor knows or has reason to know would cause the victim under the circumstances to feel frightened, threatened, oppressed, persecuted, or intimidated, and causes this reaction on the part of the victim regardless of the relationship between the actor and victim.
Subd. 1a.No proof of specific intent required.
In a prosecution under this section, the state is not required to prove that the actor intended to cause the victim to feel frightened, threatened, oppressed, persecuted, or intimidated, or except as otherwise provided in subdivision 3, paragraph (a), clause (4), or paragraph (b), that the actor intended to cause any other result.
Subd. 1b.Venue.
(a) When acts constituting a violation of this section are committed in two or more counties, the accused may be prosecuted in any county in which one of the acts was committed for all acts in violation of this section.
(b) The conduct described in subdivision 2, clauses (4) and (5), may be prosecuted at the place where any call is made or received or, in the case of wireless or electronic communication or any communication made through any available technologies, where the actor or victim resides or in the jurisdiction of the victim's designated address if the victim participates in the address confidentiality program established by chapter 5B. The conduct described in subdivision 2, clause (2), may be prosecuted where the actor or victim resides. The conduct described in subdivision 2, clause (6), may be prosecuted where any letter, telegram, message, package, or other object is sent or received or, in the case of wireless or electronic communication or communication made through other available technologies, where the actor or victim resides or in the jurisdiction of the victim's designated address if the victim participates in the address confidentiality program established by chapter 5B.
Also if the threats were made interstate, you can check out the US Code for Interstate Communications (http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/875) on Cornell University Law School.
(c) Whoever transmits in interstate or foreign commerce any communication containing any threat to kidnap any person or any threat to injure the person of another, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.
All the best,
A.S.H.
