Can image how much of our lives and activities are known to “unknown” individuals, groups of individuals, corporations, private institutions, and government employees?

Here is a run down of just of a few activities on how they may get some insight into the average individual:

1. Bank account number(s)
2. Bar code numbers (on food, goods etc)
3. Serial numbers on computer software, including operating systems
4. Internet Service Provider number(s)
5. Model numbers on goods such as TVs, watches etc etc.
6. Loyalty cards (from supermarkets)
7. Passport numbers
8. Library cards
9. Medical numbers
10. Birth certificate number
11. Driving License number
12. TV License
13. Gas Bill reference numbers
14. Electricity Bill reference numbers
15. Water Bill reference numbers
16. DVD membership card number (to hire DVDs etc)
17. Opticians number (for customer records)
18. Telephone number (mobile as well)
19. Telephone customer number
20. Internet provider customer number
21. Doctor(s) client reference number
22. Identification Card number
23. House number
24. Post code number
25. Tax disc number
26. Insurance number
27. House insurance number
28. Currency serial numbers

These are just some of the way(s) tracking an individual is made easier, and this information is on some database, which is accessed by individuals “unknown” to you, so vast amount of personal information is out there, held on you and many do not know it even exists. So how is all this information put to use I wonder?

The answer is obvious. I guess everyone can guess. Shown in the movies, read in books. That's obvious they know you better than you do (so to speak), and can remind you of stuff long forgotten. I guess you agree. That's why when I see the posts talking about privacy, I usually don't get involved.
Is your question here, Bogeyman: what can we do about it?
My answer is Nothing, since that is the current state of affairs. My hope that this situation changes but something is pessimistic about that.
If someone explains me that I am mistaken, and I agree (I want it, I reaaly want it!), that would be great.

However, the proposal to go to the woods does not go with me (if that would only help!). See, very cold here. To build a house in the woods - lots of money. I have mom, who is old and needs care. I can not leave her alone. So I accept the situation. But open to suggestions to recognize the solutions.

Thank you, Bogeyman!

Just my intuition - I see all data put into many databases that can be linked together. Software running on high speed computers searches for data in specific fields. Reports can be created to identify "persons of interest". Once a person is considered a "person of interest", an analyst can determine if more attention should be placed on that person's activities.

If someone using a social networking application has befriended a "person of interest", now both may be a "person of interest". Most probably the "person of interest" would be assigned a value attribute that would grow as more suspicious contacts were made. Customized queries and reports, automated or manual, could be created depending upon what kind of data was intended to be mined.

We are all being profiled. Privacy is over, at least until something takes out satellites and underground mainframe computers.

In the early days of data mining if "Viagra" was found in subject line of an email the remainder of the email was ignored, so I've heard. But now technology has become so advanced that probably no data is ever discarded.

FYI:

Do you know one of the 'Dumbest' things you can do when you've just bought a 'New' computer..?

Putting in 'Your Real Name, Address & Contact Details' onto it...:yes4:

as i like to say, You can run, but you cannot hide -- one could see this as good practice for when we all get telepathic again

this ties in w/all that stuff re 'identity theft' -- planting the meme in Human minds that one's 'identity' lies in all the numbers & letters [symbols] in Bogey's list

my Celtic imagination [as in 'image'] connects the list as detailed by Bogey w/the huge AI machine/brain as described by James Casbolt in his IBIS article [on Kerry's Project Camelot, i think] -- the machine i call 'the mind of The Beast'

& if a big solar flare could wipe out all this techno stuff -- does that mean that Ole Sol is on the Humans' side?

Game on... Practice for a marathon. It only serves as nourishment in my creative juices. Spend more time in heart and heart-mind. Keep those muscles fed and toned for the inner strength and inner knowing. These tools and others assist the twists and turns. There's a reason why they are called the 'ptw'.
