7.7 Quake in the Philippines

Thursday afternoon a 7.7 Richter scale quake hit the Philippines, they say no deaths at this time, but I ask the question, after Haiti are we hearing about every quake? or are there really more earthquakes happening? Or are the media trying to spread panic by documenting every single tremor?

I do understand that 7.7 is by no means a tremor by a rather strong quake that could have had devastating consequences

Ok, here is a handy, fun tool I use for this stuff. It's the free version of something called Earthquake 3D. (Download here: http://www.wolton.net/quake.html (http://www.wolton.net/quake.html) )

What you get is a "3D" spinning globe. The controls let you set the strength level, and the age of earthquakes, and they are displayed on the globe for you. The program gets its data from a direct link to the USGS database, so, when they know about it, you do as well.

Takes a bit of getting used to what you're looking at, but a great tool, I think.
