Whether you believe he took one small step on the moon or one giant leap
on a film set.......Neil 'Buzz' Armstrong was a 20th century icon ....

Armstrong underwent a heart-bypass surgery earlier this month to relieve blocked coronary arteries.

As commander of the Apollo 11 mission, Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the moon on July 21, 1969.

He radioed back to Earth the historic statement: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." He then spent nearly three hours walking on the moon with fellow astronaut Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin.

Praising Armstrong as a "reluctant American hero," his family said in a statement on Saturday that he had "served his nation proudly, as a navy fighter pilot, test pilot, and astronaut."

The British astronomer Sir Patrick Moore said: "As the first man on the moon, he broke all records. He was a man who had all the courage in the world."

Armstrong was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Richard Nixon, and in 1978 he received the the Congressional Space Medal of Honour from President Jimmy Carter.

Last November Armstrong, along with three other astronauts, received the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest US civilian award.

A statement from his family issued on Saturday night said he died following complications resulting from cardiovascular procedures.

Armstrong was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio, on August 5, 1930. On July 20, 1936, when he was 6, he experienced his first airplane flight in Warren, Ohio, when he and his father Stephen, an auditor for the Ohio state government, took a ride in a Ford Trimotor, a three-engined transport plane that was also known as the "Tin Goose".

After serving as a naval aviator from 1949 to 1952, and serving in the Korean War, Armstrong joined the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) – the precursor to NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration - in 1955.

As a research pilot at NASA's Flight Research Center, Edwards, Calif., he was a project pilot on many pioneering high speed aircraft, including the well known, 4000-mph X-15.

Armstrong joined the NASA astronaut corps in 1962. He was assigned as command pilot for the Gemini 8 mission. Gemini 8 was launched on March 16, 1966, and Armstrong performed the first successful manned docking of two vehicles in space.

His second and last spaceflight was as mission commander for the Apollo II moon landing.

After commanding the Apollo 11 mission, Armstrong subsequently held the position of Deputy Associate Administrator for Aeronautics, NASA Headquarters, Washington, D.C. In this position, he was responsible for the coordination and management of overall NASA research and technology work related to aeronautics.

He was Professor of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Cincinnati between 1971-1979.

Armstrong and his wife, Carol, married in 1999, made their home in the Cincinnati suburb of Indian Hill, but he had largely stayed out of public view in recent years.

He spoke at Ohio State University during a February event honouring fellow astronaut John Glenn and the 50th anniversary of Glenn becoming the first American to orbit the Earth.

In May, Armstrong joined Gene Cernan, the last man to walk on the moon, at Pensacola Naval Air Station in Florida to support the opening of The National Flight Academy, which aims to teach maths and science to kids through an aviation-oriented camp.

Just read this news item somewhere else, I am saddened to hear that he passed away, he obviously seen a lot more than he ever shared...

On 2009 when NASA celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Moon landing, it has been reported that "Neil Armstrong initially refused to participate in any of NASA celebration programme."

From UFO Blloger (read the link, but take it with a grain of salt):

http://www.ufo-blogger.com/2009/07/neil-armstrong-moon-landing-and.html

We believe Neil Armstrong is a man of integrity, and that is why he refused to be put into situations where he may be forced to lie about UFO's and alien presence on moon.

"A certain professor, who wished to remain anonymous, was engaged in a discussion with Neil Armstrong during a NASA symposium.

Professor: What REALLY happened out there with Apollo 11?

Armstrong: It was incredible, of course we had always known there was a possibility, the fact is, we were warned off! (by the Aliens). There was never any question then of a space station or a moon city.

Professor: How do you mean "warned off"?

Armstrong: I can't go into details, except to say that their ships were far superior to ours both in size and technology - Boy, were they big!... and menacing! No, there is no question of a space station.

Professor: But NASA had other missions after Apollo 11?

Armstrong: Naturally-NASA was committed at that time, and couldn't risk panic on Earth. But it really was a quick scoop and back again.

Armstrong confirmed that the story was true but refused to go into further detail, beyond admitting that the CIA was behind the cover-up. "

One unquestionably absolute expert, who was Director of the NASA tracking base in Houston during the Apollo Moon missions, when he revealed the following conversation "after" he left his work at NASA:

ASTRONAUTS NElL ARMSTRONG and BUZZ ALDRIN speaking from the Moon: "Those are giant things. No, no, no .... this is not an optical illusion. No one is going to believe this!"

- MISSION CONTROL (HOUSTON CENTER): "What...what...what? What the hell is happening? What's wrong with you?"

- ASTRONAUTS: "They're here under the surface."

- MISSION CONTROL: "What's there? Emission interrupted...interference control calling Apollo II."

- ASTRONAUTS: "We saw some visitors. They were there for awhile, observing the instruments."

- MISSION CONTROL: "Repeat your last information."

- ASTRONAUTS: "I say that there were other spaceships. They're lined up on the other side of the crater."

- MISSION CONTROL: "Repeat...repeat!"

- ASTRONAUTS: "Let us sound this orbita ..... In 625 to 5... automatic relay connected... My hands are shaking so badly I can't do anything. Film it? God, if these damned cameras have picked up anything... what then?"

- MISSION CONTROL: "Have you picked up anything?"

- ASTRONAUTS: "I didn't have any film at hand. Three shots of the saucers or whatever they were that were ruining the film."

- MISSION CONTROL: "Control, control here. Are you on your way? Is the uproar with the U.F.O.s. over?

- ASTRONAUTS: "They've landed there. There they are and they are watching us."

- MISSION CONTROL: "The mirrors, the mirrors...have you set them up?"

- ASTRONAUTS: "Yes, they're in the right place. But whoever made those space ships surely can come tomorrow and remove them. Over and out."

May he rest in peace, and may his soul and his conscience find quiet.

He led a very secluded life and seemed to be hiding the truth somewhat. I wonder if he left a death bed confession??

I do hope that someone in his family or circle of close friends will write a biography well worth reading!

Neil Armstrong always seemed to be so very ambigious and private about his journey to and time on Moon! I hope that his personal experience has not forever been lost with his death.

"Today we have with us a group of students, among America's best. To you we say we have only completed a beginning. We leave you much that is undone. There are great ideas undiscovered, breakthroughs available to those who can remove one of the truth's protective layers. There are many places to go beyond belief. Those challenges are yours--in many fields, not the least of which is space, because there lies human destiny."

There was a few problems with people exploiting him, so he became a bit of a recluse. Example, people selling his signatures, and even at the barbers people selling his hair, so whom do you trust? He also mentioned that we should thank every body for the moon missions, not just him, he just played one part.

There is an erie calm today. sad to hear about Mr. Armstrong. Can you imagine have brave he was to go where no one has gone before and see aliens, and moon bases, and massive ships . Then the lid is shut on the whole experience, greatest discoveries made and he can't say a word about it. Seems like every other day some big event happens . 2012 is a hell of ride . There is just too much going on this year. there has to be some kind of alighnment of planets or something there are no accidents.

Interesting article written by DR. Michael Salla - (Exopolitics, 6 september 2012) -

Did Armstrong & Aldrin receive death threats to keep moon secrets?

" During his life, Neil Armstrong publicly revealed nothing contrary to the official version of events that took place surrounding the Apollo 11 mission. As far as his public comments were concerned Armstrong didn’t appear to be keeping any moon secrets. There was however a cryptic comment he made during a White House speech celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing that he made on July 20th 1994 that suggested he was keeping moon secrets. While Armstrong struggled to hold back tears with other Apollo 11 astronauts and President Clinton watching, he said:

Today we have with us a group of students, among America’s best. To you we say, we have only completed a beginning. We leave you much that is undone. There are great ideas undiscovered, breakthroughs available to those who can remove one of truth's protective layers. There are places to go beyond belief.

What was Armstrong hiding? What did he mean by "truth's protective layers?"
In an August 27 blog post, Dr Stephen Greer reveals that he spoke with close relatives of both Armstrong and Aldrin who had been told the truth about what the latter had seen on the moon:

Close friends and very close family members of both Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin have separately told me that indeed there were numerous, large UFOs around the crater where the Lunar Module landed and that these were seen by both Armstrong and Aldrin. I have also spoken to military officers that have seen the footage of this event- but it has never been made public. One close family member of Buzz Aldrin told me “It is not my place to out Buzz on this- someday if he can speak about it, he will…

Greer next revealed that according to a close friend of Armstrong, the latter had received death threats to keep his moon secrets:

When we were organizing The Disclosure Project a few years ago, I asked one of Neil Armstrong’s friends if Armstrong would come to Washington to brief members of Congress at the 1997 Congressional briefing we organized in April of that year. I was told that Armstrong wished he could –but that if he spoke about what really happened during the moon landing, that Neil Armstrong, his wife, and children would all be killed. It was put to me this bluntly.

If what Greer was told by relatives and friends of Armstrong and Aldrin is accurate, then Aldrin and other surviving moon walkers have received death threats to maintain silence about what they saw on the moon. Armstrong’s cryptic comment at the White House, and struggle to hold back tears revealed his deep anguish over the momentous truths he was forced to hide. If America’s most celebrated astronaut could be so crudely threatened into silence, then ways need to be found to protect America’s remaining astronauts so they can come forward to reveal any moon secrets they are hiding.
