Canada closes embassy in Iran, to expel Iranian diplomats
By David Ljunggren and Randall Palmer | September 7, 2012

Canada has closed its embassy in Iran and will expel all remaining Iranian diplomats in Canada within five days, Foreign Minister John Baird said on Friday, denouncing Tehran as the biggest threat to global security.

"Diplomatic relations between Canada and Iran have been suspended," Baird said.

Baird cited Iran's nuclear program, its hostility toward Israel and Iranian military assistance to the government of President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, which is locked in civil war with rebels.

"Canada views the government of Iran as the most significant threat to global peace and security in the world today," Baird said in a statement, accusing Iran of showing blatant disregard for the safety of foreign diplomats.

"Under the circumstances, Canada can no longer maintain a diplomatic presence in Iran," he said, declaring that Iran had shown "blatant disregard" for the Vienna Convention's guarantee of protection for diplomats.

Ottawa has long had poor relations with Iran, in part because of its enmity toward close Canadian ally Israel.

The United States has not had a functioning embassy in Tehran since the 1979-81 hostage crisis, when 52 Americans were held for 444 days. Britain's embassy in Tehran has been closed since it was stormed by protesters last November.

During the hostage crisis, the Canadian embassy in Tehran sheltered six U.S. diplomats who had avoided capture, and then helped them leave Iran with Canadian passports in January 1980. The Canadian embassy then closed, reopening only in 1988.

Attacking Iran would be ‘disastrous’ Russia warns
By Robert Bridge | September 6, 2012

As Iranians reel under the pressure of international sanctions, a Russian Deputy Foreign Minister said Washington’s unilateral sanction regime against Iran is a violation of international law.

Saying that Russia has found no evidence that Iran is intent on developing a weapon, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov warned the United States and Israel on the “disastrous” consequences of attacking Iran.

"We warn those who are no strangers to military solutions…that this would be harmful, literally disastrous for regional stability," Ryabkov told reporters on Thursday.

A military attack on Iran "would set off deep shocks in the security and economic spheres that would reverberate far beyond the boundaries of the Middle East region," he said.

Saying there were no indications of a weapon component to Tehran’s nuclear program, Ryabkov pushed for continuing monitoring by the UN nuclear agency was a strong guarantee.

"As before, we see no signs that there is a military dimension to Iran's nuclear program. No signs," Ryabkov, the head of Russia’s delegation on Iran, as saying.

Meanwhile, as Iranians reel under the pressure of international sanctions, the Russian diplomat said Washington’s unilateral sanction regime against Iran is a violation of international law.

"We cannot agree to the exterritorial use of US law, and this is what is actually happening in this very case,” Ryabkov said. “We consider such methods a gross violation of fundamental principles of international law."

The basis of international relations should never involve such practices, he added.

The diplomat was referring to measures approved by the US Congress on August 1, which punish banks, insurance companies, and transporters that help Tehran sell its oil on international markets.

The International Energy Agency estimates that Iranian oil imported by major consumers had fallen to one million barrels a day since the start of the year, a decline of more than a third.

Millions of Iranians are feeling the sting of sanctions, which have made it exceedingly difficult for Iranian companies to import raw materials. This has led to a cyclical effect that involves the mass closure of factories and, of course, layoffs. At the same time, banks are more hesitant to give loans to fledgling industries, while potential investors are shying away from the stock market.

Meanwhile, in the midst of this downturn, food prices and rental fees are increasingly dramatically.

According to a member of the International Law Council in Moscow, governments that impose their own sanctions on other states are acting in violation of the UN Charter.

“The main problem here is that the sanctions should be imposed by the Security Council of the UN, which plays major role in preserving international peace and security,” Dr. Vladimir Kotlyar told RT. “In case there are no such decisions, it means the UN doesn't regard sanctions as an appropriate measure of preserving peace.”

If some state acts above those UN decisions…this state in fact ignores the UN Security Council position, Kotlyar added.

This grinding economic stagnation forced Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad this week to admit that international sanctions are hurting the country's economy.

"There are barriers in transferring money, there are barriers in selling oil," he conceded in a live television talk show.

Ryabkov called the implementation of sanctions an “obsession” among an increasing number of state players.

"Unfortunately, the trend toward implementing sanctions for attaining ends…has become an obsession that responsible politicians on both sides of the Atlantic cannot overcome,” he said.

Ryabkov attributed this approach to resolving international problems to the “immaturity of policymakers,” to whom the lessons of life “cannot teach anything."

Russia, a permanent UN Security Council member with veto power, says it opposes further sanctions beyond the procedures approved in four Security Council resolutions, the latest in 2010.

Canada has had its' choke chain pulled on it. What a whore.

Not sure if the USA is the pimp, cuckolded husband or a bit of both. Very dysfunctional, whatever it is. England and Israel will be left out, because this is a North American thang.

Agree with you Modwiz.

It is also a bad présage (premonition in English I think): Canada had the habit of being quite neutral, which has changed with Harper's group (Prime Minister of Canada)

It tells me that they are getting ready to strike against Iran (US and maybe the West altogether). We need a huge surge of spiritual energies now...

I agree, and I am Canadian. Canada always jumps whenever the US Gov't. pulls the strings.

It does not always jump. But when the 'oil and CFR party' took over the now nearly 'state' of Alberta, in order to control the oil and resources that where found there..that was the beginning of a long slide and planned direction.

Then when the neocons, as directed, took over the 'Manning party* (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preston_Manning)' (political party from Alberta), this became the new PC (two groups joined together) political party, and then..finally..Canadians where foolish enough..aided by lies and promises, in a bad economic environment..to vote this new neo-con group into political power in federal offices.

Thus, what the world is looking at, in Canada, right now, is a federal political party that is backed by the oil groups, their tactics and ways (neocons, CFR, Skull and bones, and so on) in charge of the Canadian federal government.

And that Neocon type group, that group has slowly endeavored to tear apart Canada from the inside.

That's not Canada, that's take over by stealth.

*"Intellectual influences included journalist Peter Brimelow and foreign aid critic Paul Fromm": For example..follow this connection. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Fromm_%28activist%29) This person is a notable 'exposure point', in this mess. Note the existence of psychotic levels of genocidal christian fundamentalist neo-fascism..all the key names, groups, associations..the whole dang thing..it fits like a glove --right out in plain sight. Just reading for a second through this guy's resume, it can be seen that it is definitely a nightmare of hatred, intellectual insanity and racism.

In some ways, it's the war of 1812 all over again (more like continued), via stealth..just under the radar of public knowledge and notice. If they can't get their way via backroom stealth..and the given two groups are big enough..then it erupts into an actual contrived war. Not exactly 100%, as explanations go, but these folks can't do what they want to do, with open warfare. Unless they are pushed to the wall. Then everyone ends up falling down a hole made out of the given group's lies.

Canada racheting up the pressuure on Iran....Why ? on behalfe of who ?
With Canadas own internal problems in the headlines, what better to way
to deflect pressure than by creating a external threat ! This seems odd
that Canada though a fully paid up member of NATO & US/UK Ally should
go gun ho at this time ? Sounds like part of the ground work for a strike
on Iran ?

Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs John Baird ..

OTTAWA | Fri Sep 7, 2012 7:48pm BST

(Reuters) - Canada has suspended diplomatic relations with Iran, closing its embassy in Tehran and giving all Iranian diplomats in Canada five days to leave the country, Foreign Minister John Baird said on Friday, calling Iran the biggest threat to global security.

Baird, in Russia for an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting, said Canada's actions were not linked to growing speculation that Israel might launch an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities

Canada has ordered all Iranian diplomats out of the country and is closing its embassy in Tehran. Ottawa said it was acting because of the Islamic state's support for the Syrian government, its threats against Israel and defiance of UN resolutions. For more on this story RT talks to Michel Chossudovsky, the director of the Center for Research on Globalization based in Montreal.

"Unequivocally, we have no information about a military strike on Iran," a spokesman quoted Baird as telling reporters.

Canada's Conservative government has long had very poor relations with Iran, arch-enemy of close Canadian ally Israel.

Baird cited Iran's nuclear program, its hostility toward Israel and Iranian military assistance to the government of President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, which is locked in civil war with rebels. He also said Iran is a state sponsor of terrorism.

"Canada views the government of Iran as the most significant threat to global peace and security in the world today," Baird said in a statement.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Canada's action, calling it a bold leadership move that sends a clear message to Iran and the entire world.

"The determination shown by Canada is of great importance in order for the Iranians to understand that they cannot go on with their race toward nuclear arms. This practical step must set an example of international morality and responsibility to the international community," Netanyahu said in a statement.

Israel, believed to be the only nuclear-armed state in the Middle East, sees the possibility of Iran developing an atomic bomb as a threat to its existence and has said it may use military means if diplomacy and sanctions fail.

Baird accused Iran of showing blatant disregard for the safety of foreign diplomats. Britain's embassy in Tehran has been closed since it was stormed by protesters last November.

"Under the circumstances, Canada can no longer maintain a diplomatic presence in Iran," he said.

Canada's 10 diplomats in Iran have already left Tehran, according to the Canadian foreign ministry.

There are currently 17 Iranian diplomats in Canada, the Canadian foreign ministry added.

"Iranian diplomats in Ottawa have been instructed to leave within five days," Baird said in his statement.

The Paris-based National Council of Resistance of Iran, an Iranian dissident group, urged European and Middle Eastern nations to follow Canada's initiative.

"Severing relations with the religious dictatorship ruling Iran and standing by the Iranian people ... are the only way to rid the world of a terrorist and fundamentalist regime," the council said in a statement.

The United States has not had a functioning embassy in Tehran since the 1979-81 hostage crisis, when 52 Americans were held for 444 days.

During the hostage crisis, the Canadian embassy in Tehran sheltered six U.S. diplomats who had avoided capture, and then helped them leave Iran with Canadian passports in January 1980. The Canadian embassy then closed, reopening only in 1988.

Bilateral ties worsened in 2003 when an Iranian-Canadian photo journalist died in Tehran's Evin prison while in custody.

Idiots in charge, close all diplomatic channels, declare iran a threat. How about pushing for more diplomacy, work out issues, maybe take on joint ventures to achieve trust among eachother. But no, instead prefer violence and demands, while pushing us into it as effective meatshields.

I smell Albert Pike, and the machinations thereof (group).

Skull and bones involvement in Pakistan (US, CIA, etc) (anyone remember that?), Pakistan helping North Korea (anyone remember that?), North Korea.....to Iran.

I smell a game, being forced from both sides of a given single coin. Typical secret society behavior.

Remember, or know for the first time, that it has been reasoned that, in the western world...1/6th of the police officers are members of a secret society, The freemasons. Now, from that, estimate the penetration of such groups, at the top of said `social structure` systems. The penetration can be nothing but near complete, regarding appointment and control of key offices (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifth_column). I know of real examples (plural, yes) of that in action, that happened right in front of me.

In my opinion and understanding...the Canadian government is being conned, at the deepest levels.

Those who control the US and the rest of the world, understand that they cannot swing the public by using any Casus Belli (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casus_belli) that originates out of the USA. Overuse has helped close that door, to some degree.

They need an independent beginnings, a proper story trace, or trail of breadcrumbs.

I suspect....they are trying to use Canada, for this....and at the same time, finalize a North American union, to create a single fascist state.

Remember the signs of their hand. Multiple agendas moved forward, with a single move.

I was thinking of the Middle East and how US/Israel/Britain/France to name a few western countries are really heavy handedly putting their hand on that region (although Russia and China are not letting it go neither). Then I was thinking that the most difficult country in the Middle East to put the hand on would be Turkey. Turkey has a very strong army, is organised, has educated people and lots of young people (including the populace that is quite educated - usually high school levels, in schools that are much more demanding than in North America) and a very strong economy. Probably that Turkey won't be touched or is not the the plans.

Wrong... I just spoke with one of those educated Turks, the elections are coming there as well. He told me that Turks are now in dire circumstances as far as friends goes. I asked why and he said that Turks had sided against the actual Syrian regime which is supported by Iran, and that although Turks had been friends with Iran, now Iran is against them and is supporting the Kurdish separation army within Turkey, army that has fought the turks for ages (which is very tough on the Turkish budget and army budget, to fight the Kurds). Furthermore, Turks were also friends with Israel and this friendship is getting very cold as well. Then also Russia and China are supplying arms to Iran and Syria, while Turkey is now the 8th arms supplier in the world (First US, then Russia, then China, then France, then Britain) which is competing with Russia and China on the international arms market.

Furthermore, Russia and China are supporting Syria and therefore are against Turkey.

In other words, the overall movement is to isolate Turkey from all fronts and make it weak economically. Once again, make the regional giant fall on its knee.

We will see what develops.

Personally, I feel this whole situation is being fueled by the fact that the Keshe Foundation has provided knowledge about a technology that, until now, was only held by tptw, and they are Extremely Afraid of this knowledge becoming widely disseminated, and known about by the general populace.

Remember when we first heard about 'cold fusion'.. and then it Disappeared from All news? Well, in the case of the Keshe technology, they aren't letting even One Iota of info get to the general population, at least here in the 'controlled' Western nations. This technology utterly Obliterates the current fossil-fuel paradigm, and the plans to institute carbon taxes - the ultimate irony, as not only do they charge to purchase the fuel, and tax it for the sale, but then they tax you for Using it.

Quite a nefarious plan, and to let Anyone know that we haven't had to use these outmoded sources of energy for at Least 100 years, would truly cause justifiable indignation, if not outright revolution in certain circles. Don't you find it interesting that Iran, which Has oil, is going with nuclear technology, but is Also going Full Bore with this new technology. THIS is the wave of the future, and the Iranians know it. It's also interesting that a few African nations are now in discussions to develop their Own spaceport and space program among themselves, using this technology.

I do feel that All Of Us in the alternative news environment are obligated to do Everything we can to make certain that the knowledge of this technology is widely shared. Only by insuring that this knowledge is widely distributed, will enough people be able to make a valid decision as to whether they wish to continue with the current national debt / fossil-fuel paradigm, or to move to a rational, widely accepted move into a New paradigm based on abundance in all areas of food, energy, and, ultimately, Freedom from a debt-based control system.

A New Dawn is Approaching.

I look forward to a day when All This is a Reality.

In Unity, Peace and Love
