Go look out in the East sky and look for the brightest object which should be Jupiter.
View the image I have posted below.

Look for a cluster of seven stars, one of the main stars in that region is Alcone.
That cluster is the Pleiades , Seven Sisters ( M45)

This cluster is about 400 light years away from us.

It is located in the constellation of Taurus.

Once you get to view this, it makes it easy to find for the next few months. It also makes great conversation should someone talk about the Pleiadian's you will be able to point to the location in the sky where legend has it they are from.

By the way, Jupiter lies between two huge double stars Aldebaran & Elnath 65 & 135 light years away respctively.

All this is food for thought....food for awareness:wave:

Thanks Vitalux, goin out to have a look at it right now...as the sky is nice and clear, and the stars are nice and bright here this morning at 1:30am. I know earlier I saw Jupiter bewteen the two large double stars, so it should be relatively easy to find the 7 sisters. ( Pleiades ) :)

Sometimes, a planetarium comes in handy - you can have a virtual look before taking a look outside.

Get this (http://www.stellarium.org/), i can only recommend it [available for mac/win/linux - and free].

There are some iPhone apps that allow you to point your phone at the sky and they will tell you what you're looking at.
