View Full Version : The drugs don't work: a modern medical scandal

I came across this article today on the UK Guardian news site, regarding what many of us already know or have long suspected regarding many drugs and the companies that produce and trial them - but it's good to see this getting some mainstream attention.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2012/sep/21/drugs-industry-scandal-ben-goldacre

Here's a small part of the article:

Drugs are tested by the people who manufacture them, in poorly designed trials, on hopelessly small numbers of weird, unrepresentative patients, and analysed using techniques that are flawed by design, in such a way that they exaggerate the benefits of treatments. Unsurprisingly, these trials tend to produce results that favour the manufacturer. When trials throw up results that companies don't like, they are perfectly entitled to hide them from doctors and patients, so we only ever see a distorted picture of any drug's true effects. Regulators see most of the trial data, but only from early on in a drug's life, and even then they don't give this data to doctors or patients, or even to other parts of government. This distorted evidence is then communicated and applied in a distorted fashion.

In their 40 years of practice after leaving medical school, doctors hear about what works ad hoc, from sales reps, colleagues and journals. But those colleagues can be in the pay of drug companies – often undisclosed – and the journals are, too. And so are the patient groups. And finally, academic papers, which everyone thinks of as objective, are often covertly planned and written by people who work directly for the companies, without disclosure. Sometimes whole academic journals are owned outright by one drug company. Aside from all this, for several of the most important and enduring problems in medicine, we have no idea what the best treatment is, because it's not in anyone's financial interest to conduct any trials at all.

FRAUDULENT TRIALS, FRAUDULENT CURES, FRAUDULENT TREATEMENT, FRAUDULENT PHARMA HIGH PRICES, FRAUDULENT CORPORATIONS FOR PROFIT PONZIE.

I'll take the natural meds for 2012 Alex.

Body readily accepts nature, but the lab guinea pig fraud organ killing meds, are connected to the black market for organ swapping also. Coroners corrupt in certain states and cities with access to blood types. It's beginning to seem like as the carpet that has held all the dirt, is pulled back, WE find there is a fungus of fraud and greed, amongUS.

Natural is my choice too.

Big pharma don't do cures because there's no repeat business. Keep people sick and they continue buying pills and potions until the poisons kill them.

When I worked in the Veterinary industry Vets chose drugs from reps. that offered the best package which included 'sweeteners'. We had partners fighting to see certain drugs reps because a colleague from another practice had had a free family holiday etc, some were taken golfing. I really don't know how much discussion went on about the actual drugs and their benefits or more to the point their efficiency and side effects.
The way they spent owners money on unnecessary lab fees etc was appalling and especially so if the animal was insured, the saw it as a bottomless pit of profit.

Love to all,
Zoe
