Wow, the last day has been amazing. All my truly loved animals have returned to me, they were always there but I never knew. We have dealt with the majority of issues, some are a it more ingrain than the others.
My amazing 4yr old thoroughbred is sick and tired of being exploited by the racing industry and has spent the last 4yrs injuring herself to prevent them from racing her.:nono:

My first dog, Paddy who was there for me in my unhappy childhood is with me, he's now a beautiful collie who came to say sorry that he couldn't stop my dad from being cruel. Paddy didn't realize I felt as bad for not stopping my dad kicking him. We understand and see each other now.
Happy days and so many more to come.
Love Zoe

Any more examples Kiforall? That's really cool. It's a shame most of us are not taught how to truly recognize and appreciate the totality of consciousness and Spirit in animals, not just how they compare with us intellectually. I've had dogs my whole life, and they are amongst the finest, and most noble beings walking this planet.

Cheers,
Fred

Pets have a way of looking beyond our thick egoic thinking mind right to our true selves.

I have 4 girl labs at home, every morning my brown lab awakes tail wagging and can't wait for the day to start, my yellow lab yawns and just watches my every move, black lab goes to the living room to curl up for a second run on rest and my tan lab just awauts acknowledgement that she is special too. They all want there biscuits in the morning. Only to watch the sun come up so they can take there morning snooze before there day starts.

My girls come with no ego attached only the optimism that this day and everyday is a day without obstructions and only opportunities in life, a day with love.

Sometimes, but not often enough, I find my dogs Patch, Bubba and Fuzzy in my dreams.
So much love.

Thank you all for your interest,
I currently have four dogs, each one has sort of found me. I have a dog called Rob (7yr border collie) who was my first greyhound (Patch)
Patch came into the vets when he was 4mths old. He'd been bred for racing and had broken his leg charging around like a nutter! I had gone into work and given the patients a quick look over and came across the most beautiful, black and white greyhound, lying upside down, legs akimbo against the wall. He had the most huge splint on his back leg. He didn't get up when I approached the kennel, he just looked at me with his buttery brown eyes. There was an instant connection and I knew before I learned any more info about him that he would be with me soon.
Time passed and the breeder brought him back in without his splint. It had fallen off a few days back but no one had thought to get him straight back. The leg was horrendous, it had rebroken and was bent at the hock like a banana. The breeder decided he didn't want to spend any more money on a dog that would never race and so I ended up with him.
I had been warned that he may never be able to run off the lead but felt he would be happy with me whatever the outcome. I spent a 2 long years strengthening the leg and finally plucked up the courage to let him off the lead. I had never been close to something so athletic in my life, the speed and beauty. I knew He wanted to race.
He did race eventually, it became my hobby. No betting or cruelty on my part just letting him do what he enjoyed. He never injured himself on the track and the handicapper 'allowed' him the occasional win, which he rubbed in to the other dogs by weeing at every fence post which led to the track side.
He is with me again as a fit and healthy collie who has also got pain issues. My son and myself have gathered from him that he has made the most of a fit body by literally running himself into the ground with my other dogs, he has asked that I play with him on his own and not let him go crazy with the others. He has also returned to me to help me through my journey by telling me how much he loves and appreciates me for the time I spent with him. He also told me to forgive myself for having him euthanized when his back legs went and he became incontinent, he understood I had just had my daughter and the time was right to say goodbye.
I have always known deep down what I am learning now but when you find out it is true it gives you such an emotional release

Around 4 am like clock work mia(me and my fiancés cat) tries to wake us up. doesn't succeed to well with me but gets my girlfriend almost every time. But probably 3 days a week i wake up to her licking my hand or my face. Once we do finally get up she is ecstatic. She is a beautiful and loving spirit, and one of my best friends. In some ways though i think she knows she has me wrapped around her paw lol. "She is spoiled by her daddy" my girlfriend says.

Pure love, no conditions. Always living in the moment. Consciously aware. Makes us humans look bad, eh?

A shout out to Rowdy, Gizmo, Digby, and Empress Lucille Skydiamond. Good little boys and girl. I love you all so much. Oops, almost forgot about CashNelson, the wonder bunny. Hey little buddy.

Great thread. Let's hear some good pet stories. :)

Ooh, spooky :) I was just thinking this morning about whether there were any threads on people and their animal stories, and then I wandered onto Avalon and saw your thread. Thank you Zoe.
I'd just been reading an article in The Big Issue magazine about Jane Goodall, the primatologist. In it she says:

"It wasn’t reading books or working with chimps that convinced me animals could think and feel. It was my dog, Rusty. We spent every waking hour together. I can still remember clearly the day he died. I was about 20. I was in London out to dinner with my boyfriend and I got the call. I tried to carry on normally but I burst out crying. I was utterly devastated. The deaths of some of the chimps I’ve worked with were very upsetting but it wasn’t the same as Rusty. The chimps were their own selves, they were quite separate – Rusty was part of me. I could never have left England when he was still alive."

If I shared my favourite pet stories it'd be a super lengthy post, so I'd better not get started on those. I will say though that the dog I shared many years of my life with was my best friend, highly intelligent and sensitive, and I am completely convinced that she had a sense of humour. A really big one. She also tried to sing what was playing on the radio once, but then went off in a huff because she couldn't hit the notes. Serious diva behaviour. Sometimes when I look at her photo I start to miss her. But then something inside tells me I'm not meant to, that I don't need to. She's off woofing in another body I reckon. Having another adventure with some other new friend. Loved her so much. She was the best friend ever, and a beautiful dog.

I've had dogs my whole life, and they are amongst the finest, and most noble beings walking this planet.
I second that observation Fred :)

I've had dogs come visit me in my dreams too rmauersr. Ones I've known and cared for but didn't get to say goodbye to.

It's true Conk, they really do bring you into the moment. I love that about them!

In her beautiful book Women Who Run with the Wolves, Clarissa Pinkola Estes quotes a friend of hers who once told her (to paraphrase) that dogs are magical creatures, because if you're feeling sad they make you feel happy, and if you're happy they make you feel happier. So often, so true. Makes my day if I'm in the park and someone else's woofer comes bounding over just to say hello.

I've also had some fabulous cat experiences. But I don't want to write an essay, and if I delve into the magical realm of cats and dogs I'll be here all night ;)

What a wonderful thread. Thank you.

Earlier today I was sitting in a room with my Darling, and a tremendous Love-Bliss energy suddenly began flowing between us, to the point we both felt that we would just go right up in Light. A moment later, our black lab Amos came running into our room from another where he was napping, threw himself down on the ground in front of us (like Snoopy in the Peanuts cartoon) and began rolling around on his back, making little grunts and yelps of pure joy! His extra-sensory powers and ability for emotional empathy never cease to astound us!

Beatifully said Bob. Love your dog. As this being a reason why i switched to a vegetarian state. I consider all animals to be just like your dog. Im thinking of getting a pet pig. But not for roasting but Just for loving. LoL.
