View Full Version : Never Give Up...Ever

How easy is the supposedly touchy, feely, meditating on a cushion spiritual journey? Or as I would rather put it, the journey of remembering just what/who the hell we really are? I think the famous boxing scene in the classic "Cool Hand Luke" sums it up rather nicely.
The great struggle being between the self that longs to awaken "Luke"(Paul Newman), and the overwhelming habit of self who longs to stay asleep "Dragline"(George Kennedy). Of course we have the curious onlookers in the Universe who will not interfere. Although they may have their various preferences, and be taking side bets as to the outcome.
Although Luke barely lands a blow against his overwhelming opponent, and repeatedly gets pummeled into oblivion, he never succombs, and always manages to stagger back to his feet, jello arms still swinging in futility. Outstanding!!!
Just what did he gain by this little exercise in fighting the unwinnable fight, all the way to it's natural conclusion? Only the respect of everyone watching, friend and foe alike. Including his opponent, who goes on to become Luke's close friend. Funny how that works. Just never give up, ever...The Universe respects that...

I tend not to give up either but clearly Cool Hand Luke needs a new strategy, perhaps using brain over brawn
alas, this clip clearly indicates that perhaps he is short on the brain side.

Fair enough point Arrowwind. Just personally speaking anyway, I adhere to Kenny Rogers' advice in his song "The Gambler"
You've got to know when to hold em
Know when to fold em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
I think our boy Luke sensed it was time to hold em in this case.

This use to be true a while back...
If you challenge Tiger Woods to a game - make sure it’s not golf.
Now... even that's possible...:)
So when you are ready, nothing is invincible.
But while you are preparing, indulge not in hatred.
Love you all

The Impossible Dream
To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go
To right the unrightable wrong
To be better far than you are
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star
This is my quest, to follow that star
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far
To be willing to give when there's no more to give
To be willing to die so that honor and justice may live
And I know if I'll only be true to this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I'm laid to my rest
And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars,
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star.

oops!!! I seem to have snaged just the URL, and not the video. Oh well, guess I'm just bit short on brains. But I did reach that star, so I guess that will have to do.
Absolutely correct, Fred, just as I have been saying all along.
