Beware that the LifeStraw has a shelf life of five years ... if you expect to use it frequently, that's fine. But if you expect to put in a stash of emergency goods, that could be too short a time.

You might look into something such as the Katadyn Pocket (http://www.katadyn.com/usen/katadyn-products/products/katadynshopconnect/katadyn-water-filters-endurance-series-products/katadyn-pocket-1/) if you want a small water filter that will likely work without fail, anytime you need it in this life.

Those are expensive but i get you going at, you can also buy a cheap military filter for under 40 bucks that filters upto 0.1 micron, PureEasy 2000 litres a cartridge, spares cost 10 bucks or euros and you are set for another 2000 litres, i think what you can affort is what you should get, its for emergency use not a total world downfall in this case.( very good) but that requires some pumping action.

As far as the Lifestraw goes, thats max 25 bucks well spent at any rate, after five years, just replace, too bad, you flush ten times the amount of that just using a toilet easily, so why not spent under twentyfive bucks just in case. RIGHT???

They are a great idea, I use the canteen style purifier. They say any water source and drink straight from the bottle. Not been ill yet.....
