This was a Classical Argument paper I wrote recently, still due. Words were never a strong vehicle for myself, but with the topic I chose, Consciousness, it seemed to flow with abandon.
In my small part, I do attempt to help change the world, perhaps the sharing of this may affect my professor who could affect the lives of many.
The most important topic we should be concerned with in our lives is our own consciousness. It is more important than intelligence, fame or fortune, friendship, family or employment. Buddha spoke, "What we think, we become". One may say, "That is all well and good in a religious or in metaphysical concepts, but doesn't apply to the real world." They would find themselves mistaken and I will attempt to expound upon my claim.
Bruce Lipton, author of "The Biology of Belief" and Spontaneous Evolution" was a stem cell researcher back in 1967. By taking identical stem cells and introducing them to different environments, they would grow into muscle, bone, or fat cells. Placing them in hostile environments would begin to destroy the cells, removing them they would return to health without the introduction of drugs.
Furthering his research, he realized by a change in our consciousness and how we perceived the world we could change our own health, mind, body, and spirit.
From the difficulties in his own life, and his inability to exact the change he knew was possible, he had came to realize it had to do with our inherent programming and belief systems. Our first six years of life we operate in a theta state, observing all we see around us. After that we operate in a 95% unconscious state, leaving us only in 5% control of our own lives!
He was also a college professor teaching that genes and cells are what affected our bodies and lives.
Not able to conscionably teach what he knew to be untrue, he quit. Forty years later, they just now are discovering what he tried to convince them of previously.
That is only one instance. Another man worthy of notation is Dr. Imoto. A Japanese scientist, Dr. Imoto's work is jaw dropping. He would place a written statement on a bottle of water and freeze the contents. The statements, "I love you", " You make me sick", "Thank you" for example, would change the way the water crystals would freeze. If it was a positive statement, the crystals would form into beautiful geometric patterns, the opposite was true for negative comments. If you are unaware of his work, it is worth your time and consideration to research his findings.
What does Dr. Imoto's work mean to we humans? Well, everything! We are almost all water. If I say something terrible to someone I cause harm not only to them, but even more harm to myself.
Greg Braden, author of "The Divine Matrix", "The God Code", "Fractal Time" among other books cites one incident during the attacks of 9-11. "The U.S. has two satellites (G.O.E.S.- geo synchronous environmental satellites), one positioned in the northern hemisphere, the other in the southern hemisphere. The role of these satellites is to measure the magnetic fields of the Earth and send back readings every thirty minutes.
The scientists who were studying these readings found large spikes in the data and after overlaying these with a calendar found that they coincided with the attacks of 9-11. The first spike occurred fifteen minutes after the first plane hit the first tower." What are those implications? That man is connected in way that science had previously held as untrue. "The first false assumption is that everything is separate from themselves and the second false assumption is that our inner experiences, thought, feeling, emotion, and belief have no effect on our world or bodies." He goes on to say it was the emotions from the magnetic fields of the human heart that was recorded by these satellites and those fields extend much further than previously believed.
Hasn't this concept been cited in many religious texts throughout the world. How did they know this to be true thousands of years ago?
"Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it." Or, "Ignore those that make you fearful and sad, that degrade you back toward disease and death"~ Rumi
"All the commandments: You shall not commit adultery, you shall not kill, you shall not steal, you shall not covet, and so on, are summed up in this single command: You must love your neighbor as yourself." ~Jesus Christ
"The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness."~ Luke 11:34 A single eye? Perhaps one's third eye? The eye of meditation? The pineal gland?
A few more perhaps? "You will not be punished for your anger, you will be punished by your anger."
"To understand everything is to forgive everything." "We are shaped by our thoughts, we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves." ~ Buddha
"Before the throne of the Almighty, man will be judged not by his acts but by his intentions. For God alone reads our hearts." Or "Always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed. Always aim at purifying your thoughts and everything will be well."~Mahatma Gandhi. And finally, "Anger and intolerance are the enemies of correct understanding."
Perhaps I should redirect the course of my mono tribe towards a less controversial theme and cite a few more quotes that have a less religious tone. Religion seems to divide, marginalize, minimize and can easily distract due to preconceived beliefs and thought patterns.
"It isn't until you come to a spiritual understanding of who you are - not necessarily a religious feeling, but deep down, the spirit within - that you can begin to take control."~Oprah Winfrey.
"A life is either all spiritual or not spiritual at all. No man can serve two masters. Your life is shaped by the end you live for. You are made in the image of what you desire."~Thomas Merton.
"Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds."~Bob Marley.
And finally, "Great men are they who see that spiritual is stronger than any material force - that thoughts rule the world."~Ralph Waldo Emerson.
It is with our understanding, our expansion of mind, are connectedness to our inner spirit and that of our creator, with which we live or die. A man or woman of ignorance, will act accordingly. In our formidable years, if we are exposed to a terrible set of circumstances, we are more than likely to live that kind of life.
But a person that makes the conscious choice to affect and change their environment must first start from within. They are capable of great spiritual achievement precisely because of those circumstances as well.
Then, those life conditions could be considered a gift, if one's perception is clear.
It would be incomplete, this argument, if it was all theoretical, and I cited from outside sources. A long time ago, I experienced what some may call a Kundalini awakening. It is the closest descriptive word I can find that articulates that event. Words cannot begin describe the feeling, the emotion. It lasted no more than ten or twenty minutes, but the infinite feeling of love, security, peace were all pervasive. Whatever it was, it was all I wanted to know. If it meant death to stay with that feeling, I was ready to die. I knew that my thoughts were affecting my reality. It was a wordless knowing. I felt I was in the presence of some greater power. I am not inclined to describe what lead up to that event, only to say I was not a religious person and I was struggling with all of existence. It was a very dark time in my life. I still don't consider myself religious. Spiritual, yes. A most resounding yes. The closest descriptions that articulate my experience are of those of near death experiencers. Only I didn't get to travel down any tunnels. The feeling was strong days afterwards, slowly rippling out until it was a memory.
What I carried away from that experience was that knowing. The knowledge of how important our thoughts really are. It's something I still struggle with and with the passage of time, the sharpness of that experience has dulled. That is the truth of my experience. I am not sure of the meaning other than kindness, compassion, and right thinking are the most important qualities we could ever possess or utilize. This is truth.
The closest I have ever known. If it were possible to share that feeling with everyone, the world we be different in a single instance.
The downside? I feel like I am living in two worlds. I have no desire for worldly possessions, fame or fortune. It takes a great deal of effort to operate within the confines of western culture's ideals and beliefs.
It's easy to forget. To live in a unconscious state without much thought of my actions, or thoughts. It is why so much emphasis has been placed on the moment of now in Buddhism.
In conclusion, it may or may not be possible to change your own ideas and beliefs. The previous night I had finished my classical argument paper, eight pages flowed without too much effort. I wasn't happy with the topic or form. It wasn't superficial, and an eye opener for someone who was unaware of the topic. I was pretty sure I would have ace'd the paper. But I decided to write an entire new paper, the better part of last night and today has been spent writing and researching. Why would I go through the effort when I still have much to do in other classes as well as my commitments to my family? Because this is truth, as close as I have ever known. It is the summation of years of searching, exploring, research.
I also realize that I risk exposing myself to ridicule, from religious and non religious persons alike.
I have suffered much from each in sharing my experiences and thoughts. It brings this quote to mind, " Those who are able to see beyond the shadows and lies of their own culture will never be understood, let alone believed by the masses."~ Plato. And also, "The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions,"~ Leonardo Da Vinci.
It is only through direct experience we are able to contextualize an idea, belief or knowing. It is an area where we must endure the long cold night until we break into the morning light. It is a difficult road, but once started one cannot turn back. It is the only road of worth. It is better to start this life time than the next.
The most important topic we should be concerned with in our lives is our own consciousness. It is more important than intelligence, fame or fortune, friendship, family or employment. With proper consciousness, love flows in abundance, if not outside, inside. Employment matters only in how we are helping to shape the world and caring for loved ones. Fame and fortune become vehicles in which we can express our divinity, to help others raise themselves and spread peace and love. Family becomes a chance to express and demonstrate unconditional love and to learn to share that with our fellow man. We are one.
And one last quote that seems to embody all that I have attempted to describe, "If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you,"~ Jesus Christ.
One last point, and the topic of my previous paper. I cannot, in good conscious, leave until the other side of the coin is flipped.
I do believe there is a battle to manipulate and control the mass consciousness of humanity.
It is why the news is censored and spun and why it is almost always negative.
It is why true education is not allowed to flourish.
It is why governments censor and imprison those who speak of their crimes. It is why they want control of the internet. It is why voter machines are compromised.
It is one of the reasons why we are watching the "totalitarian tiptoe" creep across our nation and the rest of the world, slowly manifesting into the Orwellian nightmare we all fear.
It is why "pious" men sit on gold thrones as people live lives of poverty and starve to death.
It is why we are seeing the collapse of an economic system as the elite swim in
unprecedented gain and wealth.
I bring this to the reader's attention so that they may question their own apathy to the world around them. The state of the world cannot continue down this orchestrated cattle shut towards it's eventual slaughter. They're betting on our apathy and immature mental faculties.
If I appeal to your Pathos, if you stop and allow yourself to listen from deep within, my words will ring true.
If I appeal to your Ethos, can you refute the values I implied? When we expire from our mortal coil, wouldn't it be enough to know we lived the best life we possibly could? Regardless of reward or punishment that may or may not await us in the setting sun?
And lastly, If I appeal to your Logos, the actions of mankind throughout history has demonstrated the macro actions of a cancer.
It may take the duality of light and dark for the growth of souls here, but that era no longer serves mankind.
True life here on Earth can only happened from a mature consciousness and then action.
