I've decided to have a go at not using shampoo to clean my hair
Been a week now and all I've used is water when I'm in the shower.
Not too big a deal as I don't have much and what I do have is very short
Is there anything I can use that wont strip away the oils???

Baking soda mixed with water is good to get toxins out of the hair and it is also good to brush one's teeth with.

Hi Swanny. I'm a professional hair stylist and I have been telling clients for years not to over wash thier hair. For most people once a week is fine and you can rinse with water every morning,if you trust your water supply which I don't but do anyway, to move the oils around and re style your hair. Persons with oily hair are not so lucky but now there are dry spray shampoos that work the roots that are good for in between shampoos. If you have normal to dry hair do not use conditioner as this is just adding oil to your hair, just rinse daily and watch as your hair improves. PH balance changes as you use the shampoo you finally found that works, so you need a couple of shampoos that you like to alternate every couple of weeks or so. I personally use Nioxon ,thining hair shampoo, which I believe keeps what hair you have, follow directions, there is no such thing as a product that will bring your hair back. Diet plays a big roll.Vegitarians say they don't have to wash thier hair. I hope this helps.

What happens if you surf a lot? Doesn't the salt water wreck your hair if you don't use a conditioner to make it all nice and pretty again?

We use Dr. Bronner's castille soap as a shampoo body/wash.
Cleans without stripping. But, you still have to strip to get clean. ;)

I use the lavender scented concentrated liquid, and use it diluted on my hair. Best hair wash yet; cleans the hair without stripping too much of the natural oils. Strength can be adjusted if needed.

I haven't used shampoo for years. Just water. After awhile your hair regulates in terms of oiliness and/or dryness. U just need to perservere until it reaches its own homeostasis. I found using lemon juice way too acidic. water is fine

OK, so I'm uninformed. Please tell me why you would choose to not wash your hair? What outcome are you expecting?
Is this a protest of some kind?

Been doing this for 3 years and im loving the dna collection.

It made sense to have as much DNA antenna as possible on my person at all times.
With locks the hair inside is twice as long as the actual lock. So its the best way to have the most DNA connected to you with less space/overall length.
This seriously changed my life as I actually feel more connected to earth and others.
It just keeps getting better.... soon i wont even need a computer to post here.
Im currently getting Australian audio/video through the dreads as I type..

Hi Swanny, I think it's perfectly okay to wash your hair with water only, I have been working as a chemist in natural products mostly and heard quite some hair-stories from customers. There was a woman with thick long hair, showing me how perfectly healthy her hair was, after 20 years of washing with water only. In conditions like seawater surfing and swimming, even chlorine swimming pools, a nice treat for the scalp and (long) hair is an oil treatment, by rinsing a good quality oil, like organic olive oil, in the hair, wrapping a towel and a plastic bag around it and go to sleep. To wash the oil out you need a shampoo, but this isn't bad when you use a natural shampoo. Very good shampoos are Weleda and Hauschka. I had lots of people with dry skin and dandruff complaints in the shop where I worked and when I asked them about the temperature, they always mentioned that they liked very hot water and long showers. Most oil on the skin of the scalp is lost by showering under temperatures that are to hot. Showering with a cap helps, when you really like long hot shower. Many people don't consider the temperature as a cause or their scalp skin problems. When they changed their habit or put a cap on, most problems were over. Have lots of good hair days!

Yes you are right . If you swim on a regular basis in salt water or a pool I recommend putting a little conditioner in your hair first to give it a protective barrier . If your hair is fine you can also condition first then shampoo so as not to strip the hair of it's natural oils.

I have stopped using fluoride toothpaste, aluminium anti-perspirant. I don't eat/drink anything with aspartame in it. I only drink filtered water.
It's about reducing the chemicals going on or in my body and maybe open my chakras in the process
Hey Tron I don't have much of a DNA antenna, maybe I can get short-wave?? :ohwell:
