I was working outside all day today, raking leaves triming bushes. It made me feel great.
The sky was a brilliant blue. All the tree's are turning now. The scenery was outstanding.
After I finished my work I set in the grass Kicked back and soaked it in. I felt connected to the Earth and to Everyone.

Hey jagman, I know exactly what you mean. It's a beautiful time of year. Along with the crispness in the Autumn air and all the vibrant colors; the birds are especially busy flying back and forth from the large feeder I have hanging just outside the front window - collecting and stashing food for Winter.

..guess I best get raking.

"All the leaves are Brown, and the sky is grey, i went for a walk, on a winter's day' I really miss the distinct seasonal changes of the northern Hemisphere.
Here in Perth, you get 8-9 months of summer, then a slightly chilly, damp few months of 'winter'-OK if you are a Lizard!

I catch that same bug from time to time GH. After 14 years away from Wisconsin something else came to mind that I well and truly miss, and I'm a bit shocked at the revelation.

I miss shoveling snow.

"The coldest Winter I ever spent was a Summer in Duluth." Which I think is Henry Thoreau.
And I could relate to that once upon a time, but now I think he meant Melbourne.
So here now near Byron Bay I won't complain except for a plague of brown snakes because of the drought,
but a panorama of turning oaks and maple trees would be a warming sight.

Oh oh, I tripped the nostalgia switch, and there's Paula pouring salt into the ice-cream churn.

One of the things I love most, the color of the trees when they change to those beautiful yellow and deep redish colors, it calms me down somehow when I look at them.

I was walking down the street and on each side of the street was rows of trees and the trees were loosing leaves and I thought how beautiful this is, it's like confetti falling at a wedding and I turned and looked at my husband and said isn't this beautiful and he said to me "Yea it's alright" so to me even he was amazed lolol xxxxxx

I too spend the entire day outside amongst the falling leaves attending to chores, prior to the landfall of 'Sandy' here in New England... raking will take place today.

In my neck of the woods, autumn is official when you can smell the wood stove smoke in the air and make the annual trip to the cider mill for fresh cider and warm donuts.

Hmmm.. sounds delicious Ki. As young kids growing up in the country, little backyard fires were the norm. Most dads and grandads had a large metal barrel or rugged fire pit where small sticks, paper and yard waste etc. was burnt. I remember we use to find and collect these hollowed out sticks about a foot long and the thickness of a pencil. We would put the end of them in the fire until it caught and then pretend we were smoking! haha Goodness knows what those sticks were but we sure had fun. By the way - the boys taught us about the sticks.
