That compression area in the front of the storm looks pretty energetic. I watched the strange path as the storm converged... It did look like there was a target location and the storm auto corrected against the other storms to stay "ON TARGET". Storms usually move around more.

This has the ability to turn into a Katrina Sized Event... Good luck to all up in that area!!!

I hope steps are taken to really prepare, so far I am not encouraged. It looks like the storm is being under estimated. I just hope there aren't MILLIONS of people without power for Hours, Days or Weeks. I hated Hurricane Season while I was in the Army Guard, I worked dozens of these storms and each has its own personality...

Working the situation with possible freezing weather would be a nightmare. I understand people thinking there may be too much hype, but that is not the case here. Too little hype... this is more than just a "Fall Storm".

New Yorkers have begun preparing for the worst


New York City's public transport system is to be suspended ahead of the arrival on Monday of Hurricane Sandy.

Governor Andrew Cuomo said the subway, bus and train services would shut down from 19:00 (23:00 GMT) on Sunday.

As many as 375,000 people have been ordered to evacuate low-lying areas, and schools will be shut.

Sandy's winds are set to intensify as it merges with a wintry storm from the western US. A number of states on the East Coast have declared an emergency.

Up to 60 million people could be affected by the storm, which is set to hit several states key to the 6 November presidential election.

I cannot believe that we humans can control absolutely everything, including storms and earthquakes! King Canute cleared up that possibility many years ago.

There have always been storms, floods, fires and etcs. In ancient times we thought God or gods sent them, and sent really big ones if we had been naughty in some way. Now we apparently think that men (and possibly women,) with big machines, or possibly computer programs are responsible. That is people like you and me can control a storm of the type that is possibly building. All these experts can do is warn us. They are as helpless as we are. They are not in control of it.

It's natural. It's weather. And for some reason, possibly exacerbated by humans, the climate of our planet is changing. We are going to have to adapt and change some of the things we cherish most. In my country for example, we all dream of one day retiring to the coastal fringe--- which probably won't be habitable by the middle of the century due to the sea level rising.

I hope New York and the other threatened areas survive without damage, and the storm is not the horrific event expected.

I am sitting here at my home in the Jersey Shore, one mile from the coast, 18 feet above sea level. When we had hurricane Irene in August last year, many people panicked before the storm, fought over generators at Home Depot, started drinking, called up friends screaming, etc. This time, the vibe is relatively calm - people are preparing for the worst, but staying calm.

I listened to about 10 minutes of Alex Jones and had just yawned at all the fear mongering. Also checking haarpstatus.com which is showing very high HAARP emissions over the area. Still feeling pretty calm, like everyone else here. If this is going to be the storm of the century, most people here are in a pretty good mindset to weather it.

Seriously, there is a WEALTH OF EVIDENCE out there in the form of declassified governemnt documents, alternative AND msm news reports/articles, scientific reports/aricles, whistleblower testimonies etc etc that confirm the existence [and use] of such technologies.

I strongly suggest that you do some research into this topic so that you can understand how [and why] certain elements from within the military industrial complex are manipulating and controlling weather in order to further their own agenda/s.

As Hurricane Sandy makes its way across the country headed for the East Coast, the strong storm slated with the severity level of 1991’s “perfect storm” has been dubbed “Frankenstorm” for its Halloween peak date.

The storm, nicknamed “Frankenstorm” by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration forecaster Jim Cisco, stemmed from Hurricane Sandy and will likely hit the East Coast over the weekend and extend through Halloween.

“Frankenstorm,” 2012’s worst storm thus far, is 90 percent likely to blast the East Coast, namely New York and New Jersey which will experienced the harshest of the weather conditions. Weather forecasters said the storm will bring gale-force winds, heavy rain, flooding and possibly snow as early as Sunday and could last as long as Wednesday.

Since it was dubbed “Frankenstorm,” with much buzz about it being the worst storm in decades, many creative minds took to the Internet to create memes based on the nickname. For example, one meme used The Success Kid as its subject, baring the text, “Bring it on Frankenstorm.” Another used an image of Ned Stark from “Game of Thrones,” with the caption, “Brace yourself… ‘Frankenstorm’ is coming.”

The east coast of America is bracing for a potential "super storm" early next week. Hurricane Sandy has already caused more than 40 deaths as it swept across the Carribean. Forecasters say it could merge with a polar storm, making landfall anywhere between Virginia and New York, a week before the election. Al Jazeera's Tom Ackerman reports, and Tony Harris speaks to Justin Povick, a meteorologist at Accuweather.

Hurricane Sandy is closing in on highly populated areas of the US east coast, threatening storm surges and devastating flooding.

In New York City, thousands of people have been ordered to leave their homes and evacuation shelters have been set up in 76 schools.

Public transport has been halted and the New York Stock Exchange closed.

Forecasters fear Sandy will become a super-storm when it collides with cold weather fronts from the west and north.

It also coincides with a full moon

Sandy has already killed 60 people after sweeping through the Caribbean in the past week.

Campaigning for the US presidential election has also been disrupted, eight days ahead of election day on 6 November.

Slow-moving storm

At 08:00 EDT (12:00 GMT), Sandy was churning about 310 miles (505km) south-east of New York City, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.

Forecasters said its maximum sustained winds were 85mph (140km/h) with higher gusts.

Hurricane force winds extended for 175 miles (280km) and tropical storm force winds for 485 miles (780km), the NHC added.

The vast hurricane, about 520 miles (835km) across, is moving slowly north-west and could linger over as many as 12 states for 24-36 hours, bringing up to 25cm of rain, 60cm of snow, extreme storm surges and power cuts.

At least 14 out of 17 people on board a replica of HMS Bounty - built for the 1962 film Mutiny on the Bounty - have been rescued, the US Coast Guard says.

They were rescued from two life rafts off the coast of North Carolina after they were forced to abandon ship. The Coast Guard is searching for the remaining crew members.

The eye of the storm is expected to move across the coast of mid-Atlantic states by Monday night, the NHC said.

As it will hit the US East Coast just before Hallowe'en, it is being dubbed a "Frankenstorm".

With emergencies declared in several east-coast states, many workers were staying at home on Monday.

New York City's subway, bus and train services were suspended from Sunday evening, and schools are shut.

Taxi driver Peter Franklin told the BBC that the city was "shut down".

"I feel like I am living in a science fiction movie," he said.

He pulled out of a planned event with former President Bill Clinton on Monday and headed back to the White House to monitor emergency operations.

Visiting the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Fema) in Washington on Sunday, he vowed the government would "respond big and respond fast" after Sandy had passed.

Authorities warned that high tides triggered by a full moon could create storm surges of up 11ft (3m), sending seawater surging through parts of lower Manhattan.

The United Nations headquarters in New York also shut down.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg described it as "a serious and dangerous storm."

Addressing those who had been advised to leave, he said: "If you don't evacuate, you are not only endangering your life, you are also endangering the lives of the first responders who are going in to rescue you."

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie echoed his words, saying: "Don't be stupid. Get out."

Amtrak has suspended passenger train services across the north-east and air travel has been badly hit, with some 6,800 flights cancelled.

The Statue of Liberty was reopened on Sunday after a year of renovation, but only a group of army cadets got a tour before it was shut again until at least Wednesday.

Some 200 National Guardsmen will patrol Manhattan and 300 more will be deployed in Long Island.

A helicopter rescue operation was under way Monday for 17 people who abandoned the HMS Bounty as the ship was sinking off the coast of North Carolina, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
"Our helicopter has arrived on scene and the hoisting operation is under way," according to one Coast Guard official.
The ship issued a distress signal late Sunday after taking on water, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
The owner of the 180-foot, three mast ship -- which was built for the 1962 Marlon Brando movie, "Mutiny on the Bounty" -- lost communication with the crew and alerted the Coast Guard to the situation.

The Coast Guard then received a distress signal from the ship showing its position. It sent out an aircraft to speak with the crew, which reported that the vessel was taking on water and had no propulsion. It was located about 90 miles southeast of Hatteras, N.C.

"The 17 person crew donned cold water survival suits and life jackets before launching in two 25-man lifeboats with canopies," the Coast Guard said earlier in a statement.

HMS Bounty abandoned amid Hurricane Sandy

Two people are still missing after the 16-strong crew of the replica tall ship HMS Bounty was forced to abandon ship as Hurricane Sandy approached.

The US coastguard said it had rescued 14 crew members, after the ship started taking on water off the coast of North Carolina.

The search for the two remaining crew members is continuing.

HMS Bounty is a replica of the ship of the same name famous for the mutiny of its crew in the 18th Century.

Built for the 1962 film Mutiny on the Bounty, it was on its way from Connecticut on the north-east coast of the US to Florida, taking it through the path of Hurricane Sandy, when it began taking on water on Sunday night.

'Suddenly capsized'

Speaking to BBC Radio 4's PM programme, Lt Kevin Sullivan, command centre chief for the North Carolina coastguard, said the crew were able to keep the ship afloat for most of the night before deciding to abandon ship in the early hours of the morning.



"Our understanding is that as [the crew] were preparing to get into the life rafts the boat suddenly capsized on them," he said. "They had to swim clear of the boat and try to get in the life rafts from there."

He said it appeared two crew members had not made it into the life rafts. The 14 who did were later picked up by coastguard helicopters and suffered only minor injures.

Lt Sullivan said the search for the remaining two crew members would continue with planes and helicopters until nightfall, and would resume again in the morning with the deployment of several coastguard ships.

"The two missing folks are in survival suits - that's the report we have from the other survivors. That should give them a very good chance to stay alive, afloat and stay warm in that water," he said.

He added that the ship itself is believed to have sunk.

The Bounty was approximately 160 miles (250km) west of the eye of Hurricane Sandy when it got into trouble
