I can't tell for sure if you're being sarcastic or sincere, but it appears sincere so allow me to say (though this is off-topic to SOPA) The healthcare legislation that passed in the US was strong legislation protecting medical insurance companies and big pharma - not "universal health care" legislation. Calling it universal health care legislation is true Orwellian doublespeak.

This is not just my opinion, or that of casual bloggers, or someone with an ax to grind against Obama. I personally communicated with 2 of the principle activist/organizers behind Mad As Hell Doctors (http://madashelldoctors.com/), and although I did not read the entire Act (I don't know *anyone* that read the whole 1928 pages and would bet big money not one single Congressperson read the whole thing) I did read a synopsis and did research it. This was a huge, stinky pile of collusion, written by medical insurance lobbyists, and was celebrated as a great victory by medical insurers - not a bill protecting citizen heathcare rights. For those who skimmed the surface or listened to mainstream media*, it appeared that Obama and the Dems were champions of the people who were fighting a battle against republicans.

I can't think of any way to gracefully segue back to SOPA from this tangent. Perhaps we can say, the thought of SOPA passing made us sick, and we feel a little better now, after reading the White House statement (and we await the final verse from the fat lady.)

For those who might like a bit of background in this mongrel legislation I started a thread (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?33535-Say-NO-to-ACTA) at the end of October that mentioned ACTA, IP-Protect (renamed the 'E-PARASITE Act'), SOPA, TRIPS and the TPP Agreement but (not surprisingly) it received little interest.

I don't read that the Reuter's article is saying that SOPA will not be enacted.
It seems more like a "testing of the waters" by the various interest groups and the US Government to see if there was much interest in the "public domain" regards these issues.
It is important to note that it was posted on some White House Officials blogs, not as official policy.
The legislation is still there, it hasn't been cancelled.
Obama has not stopped anything. His officials are using blog posts as a litmus test, that's all.

I agree with Bryn ap Gwilym that many people are fighting this and are concerned at its direction.

In my opinion censorship must always be fought against.

CNN Poll: Obama tied with Romney & Paul in November showdowns

Washington (CNN) – Mitt Romney is all tied up with President Barack Obama in a likely general election matchup, with the president showing signs of weakness on the economy and Romney seen as out of touch with ordinary Americans, according to a new national survey.

And a CNN/ORC International Poll released Monday also indicates that Rep. Ron Paul of Texas is also even with Obama in another possible showdown this November. The survey also suggests the Republican advantage on voter enthusiasm is eroding, which could be crucial in a close contest.

According to the survey, if the November election were held today and Romney were the Republican presidential nominee, 48% say they'd vote for the former Massachusetts governor, with 47% supporting the president. Romney's one point margin is well within the poll's sampling error.

The poll also indicates Paul statistically tied with Obama, with the president at 48% and the longtime congressman at 46%. But according to the poll, the president is doing better against two other Republican presidential candidates. If Rick Santorum were the GOP nominee, Obama would hold a 51%-45% advantage over the former senator from Pennsylvania. And if Newt Gingrich faced off against the president, Obama would lead the former House speaker 52%-43%.

Enthusiasm in voting in the presidential election this November now stands at 54% among registered Republicans, down ten points from last October. Meanwhile, enthusiasm among registered Democrats has risen six points, and now stands at 49%.

"In a race that tight, turnout is likely to determine the outcome, and the Democrats have begun to close the 'enthusiasm gap' that damaged their prospects so badly in the 2010 midterms," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

While the Obama re-election campaign and the Democratic National Committee have all of the GOP White House hopefuls in their sights, they are directing most of their firepower towards Romney, and the poll indicates why that is the case.

According to the survey, both men are seen as strong leaders, and both are viewed as having the personal qualities that a president should have. Forty-eight percent of Americans say that Obama agrees with them on the issues they care about - not great, but better than the 43% who feel that way about Romney.

"But on the economy - issue number one to most Americans - Romney has a clear advantage. 53% say the former Massachusetts governor can get the economy moving; only 40% say that about President Barack Obama," says Holland. "But the numbers are reversed when voters are asked whether the candidates are in touch with ordinary Americans. Fifty-three percent say that Obama is in touch; only four in ten feel that way about Romney."

Obama and Romney are virtually tied on whether they are seen as strong and decisive leaders. The survey indicates that by a 61%-34% margin, Americans say Romney changes his position on the issues for political reasons. By a 56%-42% margin, the public feels the same way about the president.

The poll was conducted for CNN by ORC International from January 11-12, with 1,021 adult Americans, including 928 registered voters, conducted by telephone on January 11-12, 2012. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

On May 12, 2011, Senator Leahy (D-VT) introduced S. 968, the Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property (PROTECT IP) Act. While I am supportive of the goals of the bill, I am deeply concerned that the definitions and the means by which the legislation seeks to accomplish these goals will have unintended consequences and hurt innovation, job creation, and threaten online speech and security. On November 17, 2011, I signed a letter along with Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) objecting to the bill as it is currently written.



On December 17, 2011, Senator Wyden introduced the "Online Protection and Enforcement of Digital Trade" (OPEN) Act (S. 2029), of which I am an original co-sponsor. The bill has been referred to the Senate Finance Committee, where it is currently awaiting further review. The OPEN Act is a more effective approach to stopping foreign web sites that are found to be primarily and willfully used to infringe intellectual property rights. The OPEN Act builds on the existing legal framework used by the International Trade Commission for addressing unfair acts in the importation of articles into the United States, or in their sale for importation, or sale within the United States after importation.



Our trade laws have yet to catch up to deal with the global digital economy. The OPEN Act recognizes that the Internet has created new opportunities for foreign products to reach the U.S. market and that there is little difference between downloading a pirated movie from a foreign website and importing a counterfeit movie DVD from a foreign company. For those foreign web sites that are determined after an investigation to be primarily and willfully infringing, the International Trade Commission will issue a "Cease and Desist" order. The "Cease and Desist" order may also be served on financial intermediaries that provide services to that foreign web site, compelling financial payment processors and online advertising providers to cease doing business with the foreign site in question. This would cut off financial incentives for this illegal activity and deter these unfair imports from reaching the U.S. market.



The OPEN Act addresses the same challenges as the PROTECT IP Act, while protecting freedom of speech, innovation, and security on the Internet. The challenge of rogue web sites is one that many nation's face. The United State has always been seen as a leader on Internet issues. Laws we establish in the United States regarding the Internet are likely to be used as models around the world. And because the Internet is global in nature, it is important that we carefully consider how the laws and policies we adopt in this area may be received and translated by other countries.

Obama has a meeting with the person who 'proposed' the sopa bill. But the meeting was before the proposal and Obama asked him to propose the bill and get lots of congressmen to back the bill. Attorneys Carl J. Mayer and Bruce I. Afran filed a complaint Friday in the Southern U.S. District Court in New York City on my behalf as a plaintiff against Barack Obama and Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta to challenge the legality of the Authorization for Use of Military Force as embedded in the latest version of the National Defense Authorization Act, signed by the president Dec. 31.

The act authorizes the military in Title X, Subtitle D, entitled “Counter-Terrorism,” for the first time in more than 200 years, to carry out domestic policing. With this bill, which will take effect March 3, the military can indefinitely detain without trial any U.S. citizen deemed to be a terrorist or an accessory to terrorism. And suspects can be shipped by the military to our offshore penal colony in Guantanamo Bay and kept there until “the end of hostilities.” It is a catastrophic blow to civil liberties.

I spent many years in countries where the military had the power to arrest and detain citizens without charge. I have been in some of these jails. I have friends and colleagues who have “disappeared” into military gulags. I know the consequences of granting sweeping and unrestricted policing power to the armed forces of any nation. And while my battle may be quixotic, it is one that has to be fought if we are to have any hope of pulling this country back from corporate fascism.

Section 1031 of the bill defines a “covered person”—one subject to detention—as “a person who was a part of or substantially supported al-Qaeda, the Taliban, or associated forces that are engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners, including any person who has committed a belligerent act or has directly supported such hostilities in aid of such enemy forces.”

The bill, however, does not define the terms “substantially supported,” “directly supported” or “associated forces.”

I met regularly with leaders of Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Gaza. I used to visit Palestine Liberation Organization leaders, including Yasser Arafat and Abu Jihad, in Tunis when they were branded international terrorists. I have spent time with the Revolutionary Guard in Iran and was in northern Iraq and southeastern Turkey with fighters from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party. All these entities were or are labeled as terrorist organizations by the U.S. government. What would this bill have meant if it had been in place when I and other Americans traveled in the 1980s with armed units of the Sandinistas in Nicaragua or the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front guerrillas in El Salvador? What would it have meant for those of us who were with the southern insurgents during the civil war in Yemen or the rebels in the southern Sudan? I have had dinner more times than I can count with people whom this country brands as terrorists. But that does not make me one.

Once a group is deemed to be a terrorist organization, whether it is a Palestinian charity or an element of the Uighur independence movement, the military can under this bill pick up a U.S. citizen who supported charities associated with the group or unwittingly sent money or medical supplies to front groups. We have already seen the persecution and closure of Islamic charity organizations in the United States that supported the Palestinians. Now the members of these organizations can be treated like card-carrying “terrorists” and sent to Guantanamo.

But I suspect the real purpose of this bill is to thwart internal, domestic movements that threaten the corporate state. The definition of a terrorist is already so amorphous under the Patriot Act that there are probably a few million Americans who qualify to be investigated if not locked up. Consider the arcane criteria that can make you a suspect in our new military-corporate state. The Department of Justice considers you worth investigating if you are missing a few fingers, if you have weatherproof ammunition, if you own guns or if you have hoarded more than seven days of food in your house. Adding a few of the obstructionist tactics of the Occupy movement to this list would be a seamless process. On the whim of the military, a suspected “terrorist” who also happens to be a U.S. citizen can suffer extraordinary rendition—being kidnapped and then left to rot in one of our black sites “until the end of hostilities.” Since this is an endless war that will be a very long stay.

This demented “war on terror” is as undefined and vague as such a conflict is in any totalitarian state. Dissent is increasingly equated in this country with treason. Enemies supposedly lurk in every organization that does not chant the patriotic mantras provided to it by the state. And this bill feeds a mounting state paranoia. It expands our permanent war to every spot on the globe. It erases fundamental constitutional liberties. It means we can no longer use the word “democracy” to describe our political system.

The supine and gutless Democratic Party, which would have feigned outrage if George W. Bush had put this into law, appears willing, once again, to grant Obama a pass. But I won’t. What he has done is unforgivable, unconstitutional and exceedingly dangerous. The threat and reach of al-Qaida—which I spent a year covering for The New York Times in Europe and the Middle East—are marginal, despite the attacks of 9/11. The terrorist group poses no existential threat to the nation. It has been so disrupted and broken that it can barely function. Osama bin Laden was gunned down by commandos and his body dumped into the sea. Even the Pentagon says the organization is crippled. So why, a decade after the start of the so-called war on terror, do these draconian measures need to be implemented? Why do U.S. citizens now need to be specifically singled out for military detention and denial of due process when under the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force the president can apparently find the legal cover to serve as judge, jury and executioner to assassinate U.S. citizens, as he did in the killing of the cleric Anwar al-Awlaki in Yemen? Why is this bill necessary when the government routinely ignores our Fifth Amendment rights—“No person shall be deprived of life without due process of law”—as well as our First Amendment right of free speech? How much more power do they need to fight “terrorism”?

Fear is the psychological weapon of choice for totalitarian systems of power. Make the people afraid. Get them to surrender their rights in the name of national security. And then finish off the few who aren’t afraid enough. If this law is not revoked we will be no different from any sordid military dictatorship. Its implementation will be a huge leap forward for the corporate oligarchs who plan to continue to plunder the nation and use state and military security to cow the population into submission.

The oddest part of this legislation is that the FBI, the CIA, the director of national intelligence, the Pentagon and the attorney general didn’t support it. FBI Director Robert Mueller said he feared the bill would actually impede the bureau’s ability to investigate terrorism because it would be harder to win cooperation from suspects held by the military. “The possibility looms that we will lose opportunities to obtain cooperation from the persons in the past that we’ve been fairly successful in gaining,” he told Congress.

But it passed anyway. And I suspect it passed because the corporations, seeing the unrest in the streets, knowing that things are about to get much worse, worrying that the Occupy movement will expand, do not trust the police to protect them. They want to be able to call in the Army. And now they can.

It is indeed easier to sue one person, however that would still leave those who actually thought it up (and many other atrocious ideas) free to do it again, or something worse.

LOL, thanks for taking my little joke as it was intended. I haven't looked into the citizenship aspect of the President Elect. The reason why has two parts. First part is that I'm living in Canada and thus have been dealing with the issues of our government being usurped by Harper and his Bush/Corporate Elite BS. The second is that since Obama has been in office this long the damage is already done, if he is pulled out and shamed at this point... well what's the point. My thoughts on suing the Electoral College are that it would be great to dismantle it entirely. I think that it was an unconstitutional idea to begin with and should be dismantled. That would have to end by the Supreme Court ruling that the EC is in fact unconstitutional and must come to an end. I would like to see a law suit that created this possibility and would support its conception.

My hope and the desire of suing the President with concerns to the bill is to over turn this bill and create a safer place for Americans to live by preserving the rights of it's citizens. To keep our presidential office honest and accountable for it's actions. To quell the idea that it is OK for the President Elect to outright LIE to the citizens of the US and then do exactly the opposite. We've become so used to this that in many ways we have become emotionally defeated and feel hopeless to change... Hedges is doing a great service here.

Another Murder By Obama's Drones

On Saturday in Somalia, the U.S. fired missiles from a drone and killed the 27-year-old Lebanon-born, ex-British citizen, Bilal el-Berjawi. His wife had given birth 24 hours earlier, and the speculation is that the U.S. located him when his wife called to give him the news.

According to a column by Glenn Greenwald, "Roughly one year ago, El-Berjawi was stripped of his British citizenship, obtained when his family moved to that country when he was an infant, through the use of a 2006 British anti-Terrorism law — passed after the London subway bombing — that the current government is using with increasing frequency to strip alleged Terrorists with dual nationality of their British citizenship (while providing no explanation for that act). El-Berjawi's family vehemently denies that he is involved with Terrorism, but he was never able to appeal the decree against him for this reason:

"Berjawi is understood to have sought to appeal against the order, but lawyers representing his family were unable to take instructions from him amid concerns that any telephone contact could precipitate a drone attack. Obviously, those concerns were valid.

So, first the U.S. tries to assassinate people, then it causes legal rulings against them to be issued because the individuals, fearing for their life, are unable to defend themselves. Meanwhile, no explanation or evidence is provided for either the adverse government act or the assassination: it is simply secretly decreed and thus shall it be.

According to Greenwald, a Daily Beast report says that the Obama administration is finally going to break its silence on the Awlaki killing, but instead of handing over the memo justifying his extrajudicial assassination, they merely intend to send Attorney General Eric Holder out to make a major address on the administration's national-security record. Embedded in the speech will be a carefully worded but firm defense of the government's right to target U.S. citizens.

"An early draft of Holder's speech identified Awlaki by name, but in a concession to concerns from the intelligence community, all references to the American citizen were removed. As currently written, the speech makes no overt mention of the Awlaki operation, and reveals none of the intelligence the administration relied on in carrying out his killing.

"In other words, they're going to dispatch Eric Holder to assert that the U.S. Government has the power to target U.S. citizens for assassination by — CIA — drone, but will not even describe a single piece of evidence to justify the claim that Awlaki was guilty of anything."

Someone else should sue the supreme court for illegally appointing (which they legally can't do!) Bush back when he was made president, and also therefore throwing out every bill , tax break etc he signed while in office.

Personally Wormhole, I think everyone from the Governors straight through to the president should be dumped, and the system gutted and re-done. Non-Electronic Voting machines put in place and a sequestered pool of people for counting put in place under guard of Navy Seals to prevent fraud,intimidation or tampering, and a fair and legal 100% election race should be done. The media should not be allowed to run any kind of negative or attack adds. But, also forced to provide equal share of time to every perspective candidate. The debates should be done with the intent of informing the people about the qualifications, and any adds etc ran should be clearly informing the people of the qualifications of each candidate. Also a thoroughly independent team, prevented from being intimidated or 'taken out' or caused to be fraudulent should be hired to thoroughly investigate all potential presidents. If any illegal or unconstitutional acts have been committed they are dequalified and prevented from ever in the future running for presidential office. And, elections should be done on a meritocratic format and not autocratic.

Also to include a system of checks and balances to prevent fraud, and illegal behavior during elections. As there is also way to much intimidating of voters done. Plus canidates would have to be prevented and held accountable if found to be lying about anything. Or providing misleading information.

That's probably one of the hugest issues in the government, and society today. No one is held truly accountable for their actions.

It is very relevant where he was born. The United States Constitution states that a president must be a naturally born US citizen. Under these rules even John McCain the last republican candidate was not eligible either. He was born in Panama.

What is alarming about this is that this issue can be used to get rid of the president at any point if somehow this story is true. If we have been lied to and he is not a naturally born US citizen then he should not be president and he should not be able to run in the next election. I do see what you are saying about his abilities to get things done because no one is letting him do anything he said he was going to do in the election. DID, LOL, I hear you. The system was in fact set up to provide these check and balances. Our original constitution was a fine document. Nothing is perfect, yet the ideas that founded the states had good legs. We are under corporate control now. Capitalism can not run free as is. Georgia citizens today delivered sworn testimony to a court that Barack Obama is slam-dunk disqualified from having his name on the 2012 presidential ballot in the state, because his father never was a U.S. citizen, which prevents him from qualifying as a “natural-born citizen” as the U.S. Constitution requires for a president.

The historic hearing was the first time that a court has accepted arguments on the merits of the controversy over Obama’s status. His critics say he never met the constitutional requirements to occupy the Oval Office, and the states and Congress failed in their obligations to make sure only a qualified president is inaugurated. His supporters, meanwhile, argue he won the 2008 election and therefore was “vetted” by America.

The hearing was before Judge Michael Malihi of the Georgia state Office of State Administrative Hearings. State law also grants the secretary of state and any “elector who is eligible to vote for a candidate” in the state the authority to raise a challenge to a candidate’s qualifications, the judge determined.

Citizens bringing the complaints include David Farrar, Leah Lax, Thomas Malaren and Laurie Roth, represented by California attorney Orly Taitz, who has handled numerous cases concerning Obama’s eligibility; David Weldon represented by attorney Van R. Irion of Liberty Legal Foundation; and Carl Swensson and Kevin Richard Powell, represented by J. Mark Hatfield. Cody Judy is raising a challenge because he also wants to be on the ballot.

Several of the attorneys introduced passages from Obama’s own writings that Barack Obama Sr. was his father. They then introduced evidence that the man never was a U.S. citizen, that he was a citizen of Kenya at the time of junior’s birth and was therefore a subject of the United Kingdom.

His father’s citizenship, they said, precludes him from serving as president, since the Founders required that officer to be a “natural-born citizen,” not just a “citizen.”

Update 12:45 pm : Based on watching the live feed. Obama’s attorney was a no show. Hearing was conducted without him. At least one of the attorney’s pointed out to the judge that Obama’s attorney not showing up was showing contempt to the court and to the entire judicial system. There was a short private meeting in the Judge’s chambers prior to the start of the hearing. The hearing ended after about two hours of presentation by the various lawyers for the plaintiff’s side including getting testimony from witnesses and presenting the court exhibits and Supreme Court case law covering the issue of natural born Citizenship and that Obama is not “natural born Citizen of the United States” and thus is not eligible to be on the GA ballot. Atty Taitz also introduced evidence and witness testimony regarding Obama’s identity fraud activities regarding the Connecticut SSN and the forged online birth certificate. The judge is allowing some additional time for the both sides to submit written briefs to him before he makes his decision. As I understand it, he will release the final outcome and his decision sometime in early February. But he was obviously not happy that Obama and his attorneys stiffed the court. More details will be posted as additional information is provided by those who physically attended the hearing.

The Georgia SOS has already indicated that he will follow the judge’s recommendation. Obama will not get any popular vote or electors from the great state of Georgia! The founders and framers did not want anyone with foreign allegiance to ever get command of our military, i.e., be the president. Obama is constitutionally not eligible to be president and commander in chief of our military.

Adjectives mean something. A “Citizen at Birth” is not logically identically equal to a “natural born Citizen at Birth”. Unbeknownst to the press, President Obama met Friday evening with former president George H.W. Bush and his son, former Florida governor Jeb Bush, in the Oval Office.

White House officials did not list the meeting on the president's schedule but released a photo on Flickr. According to the photo's time stamp, the meeting occurred shortly after 5 p.m., about the time the president returned to the White House from a fundraiser.

When asked what the men discussed and why it wasn't on the schedule, the White House released a statement saying, “The three men enjoyed a personal visit in the Oval Office – as they have done on previous occasions when President Bush is Washington.”

The Bushes are in town to attend the exclusive Alfalfa Club dinner Saturday, an annual get-together for Washington power brokers that Obama also is scheduled to attend, according to the Associated Press.

1. Back in 1961 people of color were called 'Negroes.' So how can the Obama 'birth certificate' state he is 'African-American' when the term wasn't even used at that time?

2. The birth certificate that the White House released lists Obama's birth as August 4, 1961. It also lists Barack Hussein Obama as his father. No big deal, right? At the time of Obama's birth, it also shows that his father is aged 25 years old, and that Obama's father was born in " Kenya , East Africa". This wouldn't seem like anything of concern, except the fact that Kenya did not even exist until 1963, two whole years after Obama's birth, and 27 years after his father's birth. How could Obama's father have been born in a country that did not yet exist? Up and until Kenya was formed in 1963, it was known then as the " British East Africa Protectorate".

3. On the birth certificate released by the White House, the listed place of birth is "Kapi'olani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital". This cannot be, because the hospital(s) in question in 1961 were called "KauiKeolani Children's Hospital" and "Kapi'olani Maternity Home", respectively. The name did not change to Kapi'olani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital until 1978, when these two hospitals merged. How can this particular name of the hospital be on a birth certificate dated 1961 if this name had not yet been applied to it until 1978?

Afran filed a complaint Friday in the Southern U.S. District Court in New York City on my behalf as a plaintiff against Barack Obama and Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta to challenge the legality of the Authorization for Use of Military Force as embedded in the latest version of the National Defense Authorization Act, signed by the president Dec. 31.

The act authorizes the military in Title X, Subtitle D, entitled “Counter-Terrorism,” for the first time in more than 200 years, to carry out domestic policing. With this bill, which will take effect March 3, the military can indefinitely detain without trial any U.S. citizen deemed to be a terrorist or an accessory to terrorism. And suspects can be shipped by the military to our offshore penal colony in Guantanamo Bay and kept there until “the end of hostilities.” It is a catastrophic blow to civil liberties.

I spent many years in countries where the military had the power to arrest and detain citizens without charge. I have been in some of these jails. I have friends and colleagues who have “disappeared” into military gulags. I know the consequences of granting sweeping and unrestricted policing power to the armed forces of any nation. And while my battle may be quixotic, it is one that has to be fought if we are to have any hope of pulling this country back from corporate fascism.

Section 1031 of the bill defines a “covered person”—one subject to detention—as “a person who was a part of or substantially supported al-Qaeda, the Taliban, or associated forces that are engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners, including any person who has committed a belligerent act or has directly supported such hostilities in aid of such enemy forces.”

The bill, however, does not define the terms “substantially supported,” “directly supported” or “associated forces.”

What would it have meant for those of us who were with the southern insurgents during the civil war in Yemen or the rebels in the southern Sudan? I have had dinner more times than I can count with people whom this country brands as terrorists. But that does not make me one.

Once a group is deemed to be a terrorist organization, whether it is a Palestinian charity or an element of the Uighur independence movement, the military can under this bill pick up a U.S. citizen who supported charities associated with the group or unwittingly sent money or medical supplies to front groups. We have already seen the persecution and closure of Islamic charity organizations in the United States that supported the Palestinians. Now the members of these organizations can be treated like card-carrying “terrorists” and sent to Guantanamo.

But I suspect the real purpose of this bill is to thwart internal, domestic movements that threaten the corporate state. The definition of a terrorist is already so amorphous under the Patriot Act that there are probably a few million Americans who qualify to be investigated if not locked up. Consider the arcane criteria that can make you a suspect in our new military-corporate state. The Department of Justice considers you worth investigating if you are missing a few fingers, if you have weatherproof ammunition, if you own guns or if you have hoarded more than seven days of food in your house. Adding a few of the obstructionist tactics of the Occupy movement to this list would be a seamless process. On the whim of the military, a suspected “terrorist” who also happens to be a U.S. citizen can suffer extraordinary rendition—being kidnapped and then left to rot in one of our black sites “until the end of hostilities.” Since this is an endless war that will be a very long stay.

This demented “war on terror” is as undefined and vague as such a conflict is in any totalitarian state. Dissent is increasingly equated in this country with treason. Enemies supposedly lurk in every organization that does not chant the patriotic mantras provided to it by the state. And this bill feeds a mounting state paranoia. It expands our permanent war to every spot on the globe. It erases fundamental constitutional liberties. It means we can no longer use the word “democracy” to describe our political system.

The supine and gutless Democratic Party, which would have feigned outrage if George W. Bush had put this into law, appears willing, once again, to grant Obama a pass. But I won’t. What he has done is unforgivable, unconstitutional and exceedingly dangerous. The threat and reach of al-Qaida—which I spent a year covering for The New York Times in Europe and the Middle East—are marginal, despite the attacks of 9/11. The terrorist group poses no existential threat to the nation. It has been so disrupted and broken that it can barely function. Osama bin Laden was gunned down by commandos and his body dumped into the sea. Even the Pentagon says the organization is crippled. So why, a decade after the start of the so-called war on terror, do these draconian measures need to be implemented? Why do U.S. citizens now need to be specifically singled out for military detention and denial of due process when under the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force the president can apparently find the legal cover to serve as judge, jury and executioner to assassinate U.S. citizens, as he did in the killing of the cleric Anwar al-Awlaki in Yemen? Why is this bill necessary when the government routinely ignores our Fifth Amendment rights—“No person shall be deprived of life without due process of law”—as well as our First Amendment right of free speech? How much more power do they need to fight “terrorism”?

Fear is the psychological weapon of choice for totalitarian systems of power. Make the people afraid. Get them to surrender their rights in the name of national security. And then finish off the few who aren’t afraid enough. If this law is not revoked we will be no different from any sordid military dictatorship. Its implementation will be a huge leap forward for the corporate oligarchs who plan to continue to plunder the nation and use state and military security to cow the population into submission.

The oddest part of this legislation is that the FBI, the CIA, the director of national intelligence, the Pentagon and the attorney general didn’t support it. FBI Director Robert Mueller said he feared the bill would actually impede the bureau’s ability to investigate terrorism because it would be harder to win cooperation from suspects held by the military. “The possibility looms that we will lose opportunities to obtain cooperation from the persons in the past that we’ve been fairly successful in gaining,” he told Congress.

But it passed anyway. And I suspect it passed because the corporations, seeing the unrest in the streets, knowing that things are about to get much worse, worrying that the Occupy movement will expand, do not trust the police to protect them. They want to be able to call in the Army. And now they can.

FIRST EVER LAW-ENFORCEMENT INVESTIGATION CONCLUDES OBAMA's BIRTH CERTIFICATE 'COMPUTER-GENERATED FORGERY'
"President Barack Obama's long-form birth certificate released by the White House on April 27, 2011, is suspected to be a computer-generated forgery, not a scan of an original 1961 paper document as represented by the White House when the long-form birth certificate was made public," Arizona's Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said at a press conference today in Phoenix.

This is the major preliminary finding of a six-month ongoing Sheriff's Cold Case Posse law enforcement investigation into the authenticity of Obama's birth certificate and his eligibility to be president.

Having developed probable cause to believe the long-form birth certificate was most likely a computer-generated forgery, investigators began examining other evidence of President Obama's life history.

Investigators additionally have developed credible evidence suggesting:

• President Obama's Selective Service card was most likely a forgery, revealed by an examination of the postal date stamp on the document;

• Records of Immigration and Naturalization Service cards filled out by airplane passengers arriving on international flights originating outside the United States in the month of August 1961, examined at the National Archives in Washington, D.C., are missing records for the week of President Obama's birth, including the dates Aug. 1, 1961 through Aug. 7, 1961.

Beginning in October 2011, the Sheriff's Cold Case Posse, consisting of former law enforcement officers and lawyers with law enforcement experience, examined dozens of witnesses and hundreds of documents, as well as taking numerous sworn statements from witnesses around the world.

In August 2011, 250 members of the Surprise, Arizona, Tea Party, residents of Maricopa County, presented a signed petition asking Sheriff Arpaio to undertake the investigation.

The Tea Party members petitioned under the premise that if a forged birth certificate was utilized to obtain a position for Barack Obama on the 2012 Arizona presidential ballot, their rights as Maricopa County voters could be compromised.

The Cold Case investigators further determined that the Hawaii Department of Health has engaged in what Sheriff's investigators believe is a systematic effort to hide from public inspection whatever original 1961 birth records the Hawaii Department of Health may have in their possession.

"Officers of the Hawaii Department of Health and various elected Hawaiian public officials may have intentionally obscured 1961 birth records and procedures, to avoid having to release to public inspection and to the examination of court-authorized forensic examiners any original Obama 1961 birth records the Hawaii Department of Health may or may not have," said Mike Zullo, the lead investigator in Sheriff Arpaio's Cold Case Posse.

The Cold Case investigators have not yet determined who, when, or precisely how the long-form computer-generated birth certificate released on April 27 may have been forged, but investigators say the evidence contained in the computer-generated PDF file released by the White House as well as important deficiencies in the Hawaii process of certifying the long-form birth certificate establish probable cause that a forgery has been committed.

The Cold Case Posse investigators advised Sheriff Arpaio that the forgers most likely committed two crimes: first, in fraudulently creating a forgery that the White House characterized, knowingly or unknowingly, as an officially produced governmental birth record; and second, in fraudulently presenting to the residents of Maricopa County and to the American public at large a forgery the White House represented as "proof positive" of President Obama's authentic 1961 Hawaii long-form birth certificate.

"A continuing investigation is needed to identify the identity of the person or persons involved in creating the alleged birth certificate forgery, and to determine who, if anyone, in the White House or the state of Hawaii may have authorized the forgery," Arpaio said.

Among the evidence released at the press conference were five videos the Cold Case Posse produced to demonstrate why the Obama long-form birth certificate is suspected to be a computer-generated forgery.

The videos consisted of step-by-step computer demonstrations using a control document.

The videos were designed to display the testing used by the investigators to examine various claims made by supporters of the April 27 document.

The videos illustrate point-by-point the investigators' conclusion that the features and anomalies observed on the Obama long-form birth certificate were inconsistent with features produced when a paper document is scanned, even if the scan of the paper document had been enhanced by Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and optimized.

Additionally, the videos demonstrated that the Hawaii Department of Health Registrar's name stamp and the Registrar's date stamp were computer-generated images imported into an electronic document, as opposed to actual rubber stamp imprints inked by hand or machine onto a paper document.

"That we were able to cast reasonable suspicions on the authenticity of the Registrar stamps was especially disturbing, since these stamp imprints are designed to provide government authentication to the document itself," Zullo said, stressing that if the Registrar stamps are forgeries, the document itself is likely a forgery.

The investigators also chronicled a series of inconsistent and misleading representations that various Hawaii government officials have made over the past five years regarding what, if any, original birth records are held by the Hawaii Department of Health.

"As I said at the beginning of the investigation," Arpaio said, "the president can put all this to rest quite easily. All he has to do is demand the Hawaii Department of Health release to the American public and to a panel of certified court-authorized forensic examiners all original 1961 paper, microfilm, and computer birth records the Hawaii Department of Health has in its possession."

Arpaio further stressed the Hawaii Department of Health needs to provide, as part of the full disclosure, evidence regarding the chain of custody of all Obama birth records, including paper, microfilm, and electronic records, in order to eliminate the possibility that a forger or forgers may have tampered with the birth records.

Arpaio went on to say the President should also authorize Kapiolani Hospital, the birth hospital listed on the Obama long-form birth certificate, to release any and all hospital patient records for Stanley Ann Dunham Obama, his mother, and for the newly born Barack Obama, in order to provide additional corroboration for the original 1961 birth records held in the Hawaii Department of Health vault.

"Absent the authentic Hawaii Department of Health 1961 birth records for Barack Obama, there is no other credible proof supporting the idea or belief that President Barack Obama was born in Hawaii, as he and the White House have consistently asserted," Zullo said.

"In fact, absent the authentication of Hawaii Department of Health 1961 birth records for Barack Obama, there is no other proof he was born anywhere within the United States."

Arpaio concluded the press conference by suggesting a congressional investigation might be warranted and asked that any other law enforcement agency with information referencing this investigation be forwarded to his office.

In the 1950s I was at boarding school in the UK. Ex-pat farmers and govt officials used to send their children 'home' for their education and we had quite a number. As well as girls from India, Ceylon (as it was then) and even the US(!) we had quite a few from Kenya. It may have been called something else officially, but I have only ever heard of it called Kenya, pronounced KEEnya, as in 'need', not Kenya as in 'get'. Just anecdotal I know, but at least it casts some doubt on such certainty.

Maybe Mr Obama's father referred to himself as an African American as that is what he was. An African in America. Maybe it was easier than trying to explain Kenya and Protectorates to everyone. i am sure he would not have done so had he known the trouble he would cause. But then again....!

Sorry to say, but when Obama frenzy took over before the last election, I just could not get excited. It was also too slick for my liking. This was something that was eating at my gut. I thought, well where did he come from? Everyone was glowing about how this guy has a great cabinet behind him. Top team to turn things around. All I could think of was: REALITY CHECK EVERYONE! Get a grip. Am I the only one thinking this? Day one of office, this guy is going to get a visit from the big guys. Forget it. Don´t you get it? !!

I may seem a little negative but how much more evidence do we need? The US government, any western government, all compromised, owned. I don´t trust the system in any way, shape or form. Because it is not controlled by me or you, and it is constantly re-writing itself to protect and look after no-one but itself.

So we have got to take the lead ourselves, and start standing up when we know something stinks.

Who was it who said the changes you want to see, must start with yourself? That you start with feeling into what you think in your heart is right or wrong? We have got to start using that powerful inner knowledge to discern. Knowledge combined with intuition. USE IT. The emotion you feel attached to an idea, if it feels strong, clean and coming from a place of love, then you have your answer.

There are a lot of good people still left standing, and if we stand together, we will get there. At least we shall inspire evolution into a healthier new world.

As for Breitbart, I beg you all to have compassion for the man, his spirit, his family and his dream - even if it was not always played out so sweetly and with sophistication to everyone´s tastes - his core intention to improve the state of his country and the future, you cannot deny that was not in his heart. In the big picture of things - Breitbart´s untimely and suspicious death has become a sacrifice - it is a gift and we should use that gift well and be grateful for it, because all said and done, Breitbart did put himself on the line - and for a lot more than himself.

Good point. I get a good vibration from Ron Paul. He has made some beautiful speeches. I admire his ability to hold the space and with grace even under severe attack.

However, although I noticed that Obama did grow grey hair by the end of his first year as president, I wonder brenie. The more I listen into all of this, the more I think that Obama is not in the least concerned about his dodgy birth certificate. I think he´s been a good employee of the firm (TPTB) all along and trusts that he is above the law. He made a very convincing statement last year in his defense I have to say, but I question why he did not allow for any questions from the press at that conference, and just walked away.

Excuse me, are you saying the CIA made up the civil rights movement?

Excuse me for asking, but would you mind saying how old you are? I'm going to guess you are young, because only someone young would say "were funded and ran" instead of "were funded and run," but I'm almost sixty and I grew up in Memphis, Tennessee watching the civil rights movement all around me. My mother was in it, and she wasn't any CIA asset. Neither was Mattie Singstack or Jesse or Allegra Turner or a multitude of other activists. The CIA didn't make up the Saturday Luncheon Group, either.

And I think it was, all in all, a rather good thing. I would imagine the CIA certainly infiltrated it, or the FBI did, or both, as they infiltrated all social movements. But they were just tagging along until they could do some damage or maybe bring someone like MLK, Jr. down.

You are right that all the news today is fake. But back then it wasn't. Back then there were still newspapers that were owned by families -- although they were disappearing at a great rate! [To summarize, though, he took a video of Shirley Sherrod making a speech at an NAACP meeting or dinner or something, in which she told a story about dealing with a farmer in the south. He edited this video to remove all context, said that it proved that she was performing her job in a way that was racist, and that this racism was deliberate, and that the people at the NAACP dinner applauded this display of racism. She lost her job because of this.

Then it came out that he was presenting the opposite of the truth: she was telling the story to make the point that racism could be overcome, left behind.... Not that she was proud of being a racist!

Breitbart even admitted he took her comments out of context. But he said he used just that portion because it was all he had. Then it was demonstrated that it had even been edited, to make her look even worse. Needless to say, it was all cut, snipped, taken out of context and then lied about to make a completely false point, by Breitbart. Not my idea of good journalism.]

In the first video, Sherrod describes how she racially discriminates against a white farmer. She describes how she is torn over how much she will choose to help him. And, she admits that she doesn't do everything she can for him, because he is white. Eventually, her basic humanity informs that this white man is poor and needs help. But she decides that he should get help from "one of his own kind". She refers him to a white lawyer.


Sherrod's racist tale is received by the NAACP audience with nodding approval and murmurs of recognition and agreement. Hardly the behavior of the group now holding itself up as the supreme judge of another groups' racial tolerance.

Sherrod's lawyers say the unnamed defendant is the person who they believe passed the video on to Breitbart.
The video on Andrew Breitbart's website turned out to be edited, and when Sherrod's full speech to an NAACP group earlier that year came to light, it became clear that her remarks about an initial reluctance to help a white farmer were not racist but an attempt at telling a story of racial reconciliation. Once that was obvious, Sherrod received public apologies from the administration – even from President Barack Obama himself – and an offer to come back to the Department of Agriculture, which she declined.


In the first hearing in the case Tuesday, exactly a year to the day Sherrod was ousted, lawyers for Breitbart argued that Sherrod's case is an attempt to dampen free speech and should be dismissed. They also argued to have it dismissed under a District of Columbia statute that aims to prevent the silencing of critics through lawsuits.


If the case is not dismissed, Breitbart and O'Connor's lawyers argued to have it moved from the District of Columbia to California, where the two men live. U.S. District Judge Richard J. Leon said he would consider all of the requests but did not indicate how he would rule.


Sherrod's complaint says the incident has affected her sleep and caused her back pain. It contends that she was damaged by having her "integrity, impartiality and motivations questioned, making it difficult (if not impossible) for her to continue her life's work assisting poor farmers in rural areas" even though she was invited to come back to the Agriculture Department.


Breitbart's original posting a year ago showed an excerpt of a March 2010 speech to an NAACP group in which Sherrod talked about her reluctance to help a white farmer who came to her more than two decades ago when she worked at a farm aid nonprofit group. The video was posted amid ongoing friction between the NAACP and the tea party movement, each of which were accusing the other of having racist elements among their ranks.


The blogger said at the time that the video showed the NAACP condoning racist comments from a government official.


The full video, however, shows Sherrod explaining to the audience how she eventually became friends with the farmer and helped him save his land from foreclosure. .
Of course, the best would be to show his "edited" version, the one he presented as proof of her racism, and the real video. I don't know if I can find those, and if I could, if I could post them, but I'll give it a shot. Unless someone more technically savvy than I would like to volunteer?

And, sad to say, this is just one case. There are others, of course.

Excuse me for asking, but would you mind saying how old you are? I'm going to guess you are young, because only someone young would say "were funded and ran" instead of "were funded and run," but I'm almost sixty and I grew up in Memphis, Tennessee watching the civil rights movement all around me. My mother was in it, and she wasn't any CIA asset. Neither was Mattie Singstack or Jesse or Allegra Turner or a multitude of other activists. The CIA didn't make up the Saturday Luncheon Group, either.

The posse says it has identified at least one person of interest in the alleged forgery of Obama's birth certificate. – ABC News

Dominant Social Theme: It was a great cover-up, but now it's been found out. Obama is not what he seems to be. So what are you gonna do about it?

Free-Market Analysis: While we have always believed that President Barack Obama was controlled by the larger forces of the Anglosphere elite, the apparent forgery of his birth certificate raises even more questions.

Is it possible that Obama, one of the most powerful men on the planet, released an apparently hideously flawed document on purpose? The alternative is to believe that he put out an electronic document with NINE LAYERS that clearly seems to show evidence of tampering.

All the man and his (hypothetical) handlers had to do was print out the document and run it through a scanner (thus re-condensing the layers). Heck, they probably could just have re-saved the document as a jpeg, pdf, etc.

It seems crazy, doesn't it? Anyone who has the patience to sit through yesterday's Cold Case Posse presentation (see article excerpt above) should come away astonished by two salient facts:

One, the US President is apparently occupying his position illegally (so it seems); and two, the release of the "long form" and its clumsy manipulations must be comparable to the Watergate cover-up in terms of its ineptness. This is not too strong a statement, in our humble estimation.

There are tens of millions in the US who work with Photoshop or Illustrator regularly or irregularly. Ask almost any of these individuals if they would release a document with nine separate layers showing evidence of tampering (when trying to establish the authenticity of a document) and listen to their responses.

We can't say for sure but we'd be surprised if more than a handful would indicate that they'd follow the path Obama (or those around him) took ... providing what seems to be a kind of documentary proof that Sheriff Joe Arpaio has now seized upon (though it took his "cold case posse" six months).

With all the resources at his disposal, Obama still evidently managed to release an easily exposed cover-up. This despite plenty of apocryphal evidence that Obama is a direct product – or outcome – of US Intel, with its literally millions of spooks, "spook support" and high-tech gadgetry.

We do believe that Obama is "handled." What else CAN we believe? He won't let any of his records be examined, going back all the way to kindergarten. And his activities are in line with what the elites want to accomplish – one-world government.

The elites apparently are creating a formal world government in the modern era via global depression and war. We don't believe the US economy is improving and we don't believe the EU "crisis" is over.

Nikolas Sarkozy was just chased into a French pub in Basque country and had to hide out there for several hours while the crowd raged outside. The mood in Europe is foul. In the US and Britain it's just as bad. China isn't so happy, either.

And yet ... this is exactly what can be expected given the policies that are in place. There is no doubt the current economic environment is a "controlled" outcome. Central banks are not flora or fauna; they are not "potted plants." They do not occur naturally.

Monopoly fiat money is a ruinous phenomenon. Those who have built and implemented some 150 central banks around the world understand full well what they do and what the ramifications are.

It is the Internet itself – through what we call the Internet Reformation – that has challenged the plans of the powers-that-be. Like the Gutenberg Press before it, it has exposed the larger strategy of the elites of the day.

We're not sure if there was a larger, cohesive conspiracy 700 years ago, but there sure seems to be one now. An entire globalist system is now in place including NATO, the UN, the World Criminal Court, the IMF, the World Bank (which wants to take over jurisdiction for the oceans) and the World Health Organization.

The elites have moved their plans forward via dominant social themes – fear-based promotions – that frighten Western middle classes into giving up power and wealth to globalist facilities. But in the Internet era, these promotions are working a good deal less effectively.

It is to the benefit of the elites to continually sow doubt and confusion within the mind of the larger public when it comes to any kind of modern facility, either governmental or technological. We believe the power elite through its controlled Intel operations is pouring resources into undermining the alternative 'Net media.

The idea is to create a narrative of confusion, one in which the outlines of the REAL story are gradually blurred and no one knows whom to trust or what the outlines of objective truth (yes, there is such a thing within the purview of our experiences) might look like.

But we also believe the historic release of this questionable Obama long-form gives us another tactic to ponder. As the Internet Reformation has had a continual impact on the plans of the elites they have grown far more brutal and obvious. As someone recently wrote, "the gloves are off."

Thus, we figure the clumsiness of this long-form forgery (if that is what it is) is perhaps predictable, and even PURPOSEFUL. The idea might be that those who are "running the show" want to provide us with irredeemable proof that they can basically do whatever they want.

They're SHOWING us that they're in charge; that they can put a man in office who has no business being there and is actively trying to destroy what is left of the US Republic. Yes ... it could be argued this is part of a larger methodology of intimidation.

There may be even more to it, by the way. We're not necessarily big fans of either "Sheriff Joe" – an authoritarian bully, in our view – or the hyper-conservative/hyper-theological World Net Daily (though its editors and writers certainly break courageous stories now and again).

But we can't help noticing this entire incident has ended up pitting these two elements against an even more objectionable opponent (from a freedom standpoint) in the Obama administration. Once again, we're being presented with a conservative/liberal dialectic. The world is being framed in illogical, but compelling, ways.

We find it really difficult to believe that with all the resources available to him, Obama (knowingly or not) released this apparently clumsy forgery. One can, of course, make an argument that it was created so badly because only a very few people were involved. But we also think there could be more to it.

Alternatively, the idea is simply to sow confusion and dissent. Obama may be reelected, but the result will be an even more polarized society as many will have good reason to believe the president is not legally viable. This would certainly provide increased fodder for social disruption and a subsequent crackdown.

One grants, with this latter argument, that Obama is in a sense the ultimate disposable man. But we are not surprised that logic leads to this latter conclusion. In our view, many of those who work directly for the great central banking families are continually surprised that they can be world leaders one day and scapegoats the next. But that's how these people seem to work.

Conclusion: You make your deal. Don't be surprised by the consequences. Obama may be in for a rough ride. And his "fellow citizens" as well ....

Bastin simply sites that IAEA inspectors have no weapons knowledge and seem to be tasked with misidentifying medical engineering programs that are not weapons oriented as something else. He calls them “political.”

He was also involved in the diplomatic side of U.S. international nuclear efforts, and he was president of the Federal Employees Union at the Department of Energy headquarters.

Upon his retirement, Bastin was recognized by the DOE in a Distinguished Career Service Award, as the U.S. authority on reprocessing and initiator of total quality management and partnering agreements.

Bastin served as a Marine in World War II and was an instructor in chemistry for the Marine Corps Institute.

He was interviewed on Nov. 18, 2011, by Marjorie Mazel Hecht, Managing Editor of 21st Century Science& Technology magazine.

Here is an edited transcript.

As a nuclear scientist and chemical engineer, who for decades directed U.S. programs for production and processing of nuclear materials and components for weapons, you have asserted that there is no weapons threat from Iran.

What is your assessment of Iran’s nuclear program?

Bastin: It’s a nuclear power program. Iran made a commitment to full use of nuclear power in 1970, ordered five nuclear plants from the United States, which promised, but later denied, reprocessing technology. This resulted in Iran’s cancelling the U.S. plants and ordering them from others, which were cancelled during the revolution.

But Iran has stayed committed to nuclear power. Russia is building Iran’s nuclear plant, which is ready tostart operation.

Because of the denial of reprocessing, Iran is reluctant to rely on others, so they wanted to enrich their own uranium, which is essential for nuclear power. That’s what they’re doing. Their reactor is a U.S.-type light water reactor. The Russians started building them successfully,and I think it’s fine.

I believe Pakistan provided the gas centrifuges, which have had problems. I was a member of the Atomic Energy Commission’s steering committee for gas centrifuge development, and I know that they are very sensitive, run at high power, and often crash. I suspect problems are related to that, and not computer hacking.

Iran also has a research reactor, Osiris, which was built by the French and uses 20% enriched uranium,

which they’ve been getting from others and would like to make themselves. Twenty percent is not weapons material. Weapons material is about 90%.David Albright has been claiming that you can make a weapon with it, but it would be incredibly difficult, and it’s not a rational thing to try.

Iran Cannot Make a Nuclear Weapon

Bastin: He said theoretically you could—but you could not. A gun-type weapon would require several tons of highly enriched uranium, and wouldn’t make sense. Anyway, that’s not a real concern under these circumstances.

Kelley has spoken out consistently against the current campaign, which is using the IAEA reports as evidence, against Iran. On Feb. 21, he joined with Dr. Hans Blix, the former Director General of the IAEA, and former chief of United Nations inspection commission, UNMOVIC, at the invitation of the National Iranian American Council (NIAC). Speaking to the standing room only audience of Congressional staffers, diplomats, political officials, journalists, and activists, the two experts made clear that there is no evidence that Iran has a nuclear weapon, or a nuclear weapons program, and that war against Iran is unnecessary and will be a disaster for the region and the world. Both support the immediate return to diplomatic talks between Iran and concerned parties, especially, the United States.

Earlier, in a January 11, 2012 Bloomberg article entitled, "Nuclear Arms Charge Against Iran Is No Slam Dunk," Kelley, a nuclear engineer with over 30 years of experience in the field questioned the evidence presented in the November 2011 IAEA report on Iran.

In the EIR interview, Kelley provides an inside view of how the fraud of 2003 was conducted, and how this process is being replicated today. I must say some really thought provolking comments on this thread, One of Breibarts exposures was on the govt funded Acorn showing how they were exposing young girls into prostitution and how acorn was showing them the ropes and how to get away with it. Acorn was then defunded after that video from Breibart. There was a postive outcome to his work.

This last election I was a campaign manager for a guy that was running for congress on a federal level , I felt it was time to step up myself and I did. My candidate was running as an independent. He stated over and over during debates that this entire polical system is a game of blame every 2 years and nothing is getting accomplished at all . We havn't even had a budget proposed on spending for the last 3 years either here in the states. I remember at the debates when my guy would be just ripping on both parties and all of the PAC money they were taking and my guys most famous line " All of you in both parties are bought and paid for before you even get into office". Oh yes candidates from both parties during the debates just wanted to crawl into a hole as they were being called out upon. My guy didn't get elected but it was one hell of ride, we should have done a documentary from start to finish to show just exactly how the system is beyond repair at this point, but perhaps one day as I tend to believe in people as when things are at their very worst , we seem to bring out our very best in ourselfs. I truly do believe we are ascending in many ways and I see that from many on this particular thread.

My own personal opionion (worth nothing) is that nothing coming from a president since Kennedy came from an actual president's intention.

Hawaii official now swears: No Obama birth certificate

Signs affidavit declaring long-form, hospital-generated document absent

Former Hawaii elections clerk Tim Adams has now signed an affidavit swearing he was told by his supervisors in Hawaii that no long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate existed for Barack Obama Jr. in Hawaii and that neither Queens Medical Center nor Kapi’olani Medical Center in Honolulu had any record of Obama having been born in their medical facilities.

Adams was employed at the City and County of Honolulu Elections Division from May 2008 through September 2008.

His position was senior elections clerk, overseeing a group of 50 to 60 employees responsible for verifying the identity of voters at the Absentee Ballot Office. It was in this capacity that Adams became aware of the search for Obama’s birth-certificate records.

“During the course of my employment,” Adams swears in the affidavit (viewable in full as part 1 and part 2), “I became aware that many requests were being made to the City and County of Honolulu Elections Division, the Hawaii Office of Elections, and the Hawaii Department of Health from around the country to obtain a copy of then-Senator Barack Obama’s long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate.”

As he inquired about the birth certificate, he says, his supervisors told him that the records were not on file at the Hawaii Department of Health.

“Senior officers in the City and County of Honolulu Elections Division told me on multiple occasions that no Hawaii long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate existed for Senator Obama in the Hawaii Department of Health,” Adams’ affidavit reads, “and there was no record that any such document had ever been on file in the Hawaii Department of Health or any other branch or department of the Hawaii government.”

In a recorded telephone interview, Adams told WND that it was common knowledge among election officials where he worked that no long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate could be found at the Hawaii Department of Health.

“My supervisor came and told me, ‘Of course, there’s no birth certificate. What? You stupid,’” Adams said. “She usually spoke well, but in saying this she reverted to a Hawaiian dialect. I really didn’t know how to respond to that. She said it and just walked off. She was quite a powerful lady.”

Moreover, Adams was told that neither Queens Memorial Hospital nor Kapi’olani Medical Center had any records of Obama’s birth at their medical facilities: “Senior officers in the City and County of Honolulu Elections Division further told me on multiple occasions that Hawaii State government officials had made inquires about Sen. Obama’s birth records to officials at Queens Medical Center and Kapi’olani Medical Center in Honolulu and that neither hospital had any record of Senator Obama having been born there, even though Governor Abercrombie is now asserting and various Hawaii government officials continue to assert Barack Obama Jr. was born at Kapi’olani Medical Center on Aug. 4, 1961.”

“We called the two hospitals in Honolulu: Queens and Kapi’olani,” Adams stressed. “Neither of them have any records that Barack Obama was born there.”


In 2009, WND documented that Obama and his supporters had first claimed he was born at Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, before the story changed to Kapi’olani Medical Center in Honolulu.

After WND’s report on the two conflicting hospitals, online news sites including the United Press International and Snopes.com scrubbed their websites to eliminate any reference to Queens Medical Center, substituting instead that Obama was born at Kapi’olani Medical Center without explaining the discrepancy or the correction.

In 2010, then-candidate for governor Neil Abercrombie was involved in an Obama birth controversy when he read a letter at a Kapi’olani Medical Center centennial dinner in Honolulu that supposedly was authored by President Obama, claiming Kapi’olani as his birth hospital.

As WND reported, the letter read by Abercrombie and initially displayed on the Kapi’olani website turned out to be a computer-created likeness of a letter using HTML code, the building blocks of Internet websites, not an actual paper letter.

The White House has still not confirmed it wrote or sent the letter.

Moreover, Adams claims, the Hawaii government was engaged in a cover-up designed to tell the American public through the Obama-supporting mainstream media that Obama was born in Hawaii, even though no long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate for Obama could be found on record in the Hawaii Department of Health.

In the affidavit Adams swears, “During the course of my employment, I came to understand that for political reasons, various officials in the government of Hawaii, including then-Governor Linda Lingle and various officials of the Hawaii Department of Health, including Dr. Chiyome Fukino, the director of the Hawaii Department of Health, were making representations that Senator Obama was born in Hawaii, even though no government official in Hawaii could find a long-form birth certificate for Senator Obama that had been issued by a Hawaii hospital at the time of his birth.”

Adams further swears his supervisors told him to quit asking about Obama’s birth records.

“During the course of my employment,” Adams states in the affidavit, “I was told by senior officers in the City and County of Honolulu Elections Division to stop inquiring about Senator Obama’s Hawaii birth records, even though it was common knowledge among my fellow employees that no Hawaii long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate existed for Senator Obama.”

“I can go get my long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate,” Adams told WND. “And so I don’t understand, this whole controversy should have been settled three or four years ago in about five minutes.”

Obama served six years in the Illinois state senate (1997 to 2004) and was in his first term as US Senator for Illinois when he ran for Presidency (running during 2007, winning election in Nov 2007, to begin serving Jan 2008).

He was not particular distinguished (in my view) in either capacity. His history prior to that claims degrees from Columbia University and Harvard Law School ... though there are massive gaps in the record ... it's not clear to me where he was prior to 1997.

No ... not a solid political history.

Rather it is a demonstration of how readily the powers that be can install their preferred candidate into the White House, regardless of the candidate's background.

More I think about it, the division this has created is spot on. I agree with Paul as well. I had to extricate myself from a very uncomfortable conversation two days ago that took place on my facebook wall, which is usually a jolly place to go, after I posted the video of Arpaio´s announcement. I did not realise how fervent the belief is in people in my own circles who, I discovered very quickly are rabid Obama lovers, and which I never knew. They went for me like two heat seeking missiles and were pretty blunt with me, calling the whole birth certificate thing a total wind up, a load of ****e, and basically a desperate attempt backed by a racist political party. And these ´friends´:angry::angry:they are not even American! Naive of me maybe, to air this on facebook but I soon realised that I had stepped into a minefield. it helps to know that a strongly held belief, when challanged triggers a "reptilian brain" response of FIGHT FLIGHT or FREEZE... people become physically narrow minded as their bodies experience this, if you look back to "heated" arguments you've had in the past can you see this? the elivated heart rate, the agitation, maybe sweaty palms?.. its very clear with men as we react stronger than women (because we are the HUNTER & traditionally needed to react strongly to stay alive); if they are not masters of their own emotions (few people are) then you will run into this confrontation over and over with no real resolution or forward movement. What you describe with your "facebook" confrontation is a perfect example of this, there is NO logic to the responses you got, just "feeling" and to somone working from a rational base (as you seem to be) it is confusing (is it not?).

it helps to know that a strongly held belief, when challanged triggers a "reptilian brain" response of FIGHT FLIGHT or FREEZE... people become physically narrow minded as their bodies experience this, if you look back to "heated" arguments you've had in the past can you see this? the elivated heart rate, the agitation, maybe sweaty palms?.. its very clear with men as we react stronger than women (because we are the HUNTER & traditionally needed to react strongly to stay alive); if they are not masters of their own emotions (few people are) then you will run into this confrontation over and over with no real resolution or forward movement. At a news conference, lead investigator Mike Zullo said his team believes the Hawaii Department of Health has engaged in a systematic effort to hide from public inspection any original 1961 birth records it may have in its possession.

1. The birth certificate lists his father's race as African, not African-American. Since the form did not give options there was no requirement to describe an African as Negro. His father was African, NOT Negro.
2. Africans have always called Kenya just that. In Africa we have never used colonial names when referring to our countries.
3. Actually the birth certificate names the hospital as Kapiolani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital, which it was called from 1931 until about 1978 I think.

My view is that it is a genuine birth certificate that was photocopied from a folder (without removing it from the folder), hence the obvious marks on the left of the form, and then placed on a background of green paper and one document was created using the wizardry of layers in a programme like Adobe InDesign 5. The document created was then stamped, signed and dated. Why go to all that effort? Maybe simply because it looks more smart and official than a photocopy, especially if the document is required by the President and is going to be on public display.

The labelling in American politics is crazy. People classed as radicals would be seen as right of centre here in Europe. Allowing for the fact that all political labels have been made completely meaningless, some Avalonians would be surprised to learn that they hold pretty radical views, in many ways way off into the infra-left of the political spectrum.

I recall seeing a while back on this forum some videos about young Spaniards (not so young now) rebuilding whole villages and living together in a totally unconventional way. If there is a word for this kind of society that many of us would like to belong to, it is communism – obviously not, I hasten to add, comparable in the slightest to any political system past or present actually known by that name, but in the original sense of the world.

I remember as a small child asking what the word meant and on being told, feeling appalled that such a noble ideal should be treated as anathema.

I still find it scandalous that in the dictionary, a single word can be defined, with a small c, as ‘a system in which goods are held in common and are available to all as needed’, and with a capital C, ‘a totalitarian system of government in which a single party controls state-owned means of production’.

Breitbart’s supposedly shocking 1991 video of Obama has been unleashed. It turns out that there’s no need for a leash. This little puppy isn’t going to bite anybody. In the video, Obama is seen speaking on behalf of granting tenure to more minority and female professors at Harvard. Anybody who could be even remotely disturbed by this video is already severely disturbed. Unfortunately, that includes a sizeable chunk of the rightwing.

There is absolutely nothing in this video of a young Barack Obama that is embarrassing to Obama. Nothing! Even his clothing and haircut are tasteful. How many of us can say that about pictures of ourselves at that age? I mean really, it was the early 90’s. Most of the kids in America were wearing Nirvana-inspired flannel shirts, and the other ones were wearing harem pants like MC Hammer. This tape is an embarrassment, alright—it’s an embarrassment to anyone who would think this kind of thing would be an embarrassment. If this is Andrew Breitbart’s posthumous legacy, it’s almost as pathetic as the stuff he did when he was alive.

But what did this release do? It brought forth a video showing a student in a law school that had little diversity, welcoming a faculty member who supported their efforts to inform the school that they need more diversity.

Thomas Drake, the whistle-blower whom the Obama administration tried and failed to prosecute for leaking information about waste, fraud and abuse at the National Security Agency, now works at an Apple store in Maryland. In an interview with Salon, Drake laughed about the time heconfronted Attorney General Eric Holder at his store while Holder perused the gadgetry on display with his security detail around him. When Drake started asking Holder questions about his case, America’s chief law enforcement officer turned and fled the store.

But the humor drained away quickly from Drake’s thin and tired face as he recounted his ordeal since 2010 when federal prosecutors charged him with violating the Espionage Act for retaining classified information they believed he would pass on to then Baltimore Sun reporter Siobhan Gorman. While Drake never disclosed classified information, he did pass on unclassified information to Gorman revealing that the NSA had wasted billions of taxpayers’ dollars on Trailblazer, a contractor-heavy intelligence software program that failed to find terrorist threats in the tsunami of digital data the agency was sucking up globally — and sometimes unconstitutionally. While Trailblazer burned through cash, in the process enriching many NSA employees turned contractors, Drake found that another software program named ThinThread had already met the core requirements of a federal acquisition regulation that governed the proposed system at a sliver of the cost, all while protecting American civil liberties at the code level. The NSA leadership, however, had already bet their careers on Trailblazer. So Drake blew the whistle, first to Congress, then to the Department of Defense Inspector General’s Office, and finally, and fatefully, to Gorman.

Last June, the government’s case collapsed. On the eve of trial, all 10 counts were dropped. In a Kafkaesque turn of events, Drake actually helped the government find a misdemeanor to charge him with — exceeding authorized use of an NSA computer — so federal prosecutors could save face. Once facing 35 years behind bars, Drake pled guilty to the misdemeanor charge and was sentenced to one year of probation and 240 hours of community service, what he sardonically calls “his penance.”

But his legal battles haven’t ended. Currently, Drake, along with the four other whistle-blowers he worked with to expose NSA waste, fraud and abuse, are fighting to get their property back that the FBI confiscated during its criminal investigations. Once a registered Republican and now a self-described “free-speech absolutist,” Drake describes the NSA as a rogue agency that operates in a black box that the public cannot penetrate.

Drake, along with his attorney Jesselyn Radack of the Government Accountability Project, sat down for a three-hour interview with Salon. Here are some excerpts from our conversation.

Matthew Harwood: What happens at a place like the NSA when they don’t trust you anymore?

I blew the whistle literally on Trailblazer during that 2003-2005 time frame. That led to a whole series of what I will call the retaliation, reprisal and retribution by a thousand cuts, bureaucratic and administrative, where they slowly take you away from your primary responsibilities. They isolate you so you increasingly have less and less of a role to play, even though I was a senior executive in the government.

It’s like Milton out of “Office Space.” You’re put in the basement in a cubicle away from everyone.

You talk about Milton in the basement with his stapler. That’s effectively what happened. You are uninvited from certain kinds of meetings. You end up having certain key functions reassigned to even your own staff members or informed that the funding that you had been receiving, well, you know we don’t need to do that anymore.

In your opinion, is it in the hope that you resign?

Yeah, part of it is the isolation. A bureaucracy can really create this artificial desert, but the desert is real. And in essence, what happens is that they’re taking away the meaning and purpose for who you are when at work. Given that work for so many people is their identity, it attempts to fragment your identity. If you fragment that identity enough, then the hope is you’ll just pack up and take your bag somewhere else. And good riddance. I remember when they realized that I was a threat. The white blood cells were kicking in big time.

It sounds like some dystopian corporate environment but in an absurd, petty way.

You talk about the dark side of Dilbert; they were literally manufacturing incidents that never occurred. That’s the level at which they excel. The distrust within this dystopia of each other: people come into work looking to make someone else’s life bad and they’re deriving great pleasure from the psychological pain they’re inflicting bureaucratically on one another. What does that tell you?

Did you lose your pension?

I was within five-and-a-half years of retirement based on a combination of my military and government time, both CIA and NSA. That’s not there. I have what’s called a thrift savings plan, but I had to take half of that money out. You talk about the price you pay. Most people don’t know it’s significant. I spent close to $100,000 on attorney fees plus expenses. I have literally given up hundreds of thousands of dollars and a government pension that would have been worth close to a million dollars.

Would you still blow the whistle if you knew what you know now?

Yes. There are a few things I would have done differently, though. I would not have spoken to the FBI. I knew that in speaking with them that something could be used against me. I was read my Miranda rights, but I waved them to cooperate, but to report crimes: misdemeanors, illegalities, management malfeasance, program fraud, waste and abuse. I would have immediately had an attorney, but that’s in hindsight.

Another regret: I would have gone public before indictment. Remember, once they indict you’re already in a severely negative place. But the last place I would have shared any information with is WikiLeaks, and yet it is a viable internationally based alternative for getting the truth out. This is partly why Manning is in the hot water because he’s not going through, allegedly, an American citizen; he’s going somewhere else. And it’s not the enemy, let’s get that straight right off the bat, but he’s going to an organization that’s non-U.S.-based, non-U.S. citizen.

And I never would have gone to NSA as a senior executive. I would have stayed a contractor. I would have just made money. But, see, it’s easy to say that. And there are no regrets because I have to live with the integrity of who I am. I recognize that it’s a very lonely space as a whistle-blower, how incredibly isolating it is. And how you keep what you know because of the risks that are involved, recognizing you’re in a much bigger system. You end up keeping the truth from those who you think you could share it with. That includes close family members because you don’t want them implicated. You don’t want them to be viewed as an accessory. My spouse, because she works as an NSA contractor, was interrogated/interviewed by the FBI for a couple of hours. She had no knowledge of any of the specifics of the cooperation I had with DoD. Or the fact that I had contact with a reporter. They were betting that in terms of sitting one pillow next to another that you would share.

[B]In your opinion, is Bradley Manning a whistle-blower?

There is also a lot of what I call false flag arguments with Manning. It took incredible courage, incredible risk. He ended up listening to his conscience. All the other stuff you hear about is a red herring. All the other stuff is personal and it’s misdirection. Remember, the government uses the court of public opinion, just as much if not more so than whistle-blowers. The advantage they had, in my case, remember, I was way behind the 8-ball. In essence they already made like six moves in chess, before I could make a move at all. They already had the upper hand. They had the narrative. They had the charges. They had painted me as a traitor. That I had violated my oath. That I had betrayed my country.

The only defense you have then is the truth.

But what if it’s not sufficient? The truth was always on my side. I knew the truth. It’s one of the advantages of the truth; you don’t have to make up a story. You just tell the truth. I never had to think about what to say, I just said it.

You talk regularly about how a feeding frenzy occurred throughout the U.S. security establishment and its defense contractors after Congress starting writing blank checks in an effort to prevent another 9/11. A decade later, are we at a place now then where they have to manufacture threats to keep the money flowing?

You have to persist the threat. You have to find another existential reason why this is indefinite. The only way to do that is the boogeyman. You have to paint that.

Whether that’s Iran or homegrown terrorists or China?

Doesn’t matter, and especially when you have less understanding about it. Radically different cultures. Radically different environments. We don’t learn very well, except where it’s reflexively us. We have a tendency to project ourselves onto others. So yes, you have to manufacture if you’re making that kind of money. The national security state became a growth industry — huge redistribution of wealth. I had people coming to me: “Tom, you have to get out. The money is unbelievable. You can be a millionaire.”

Literally the idea is after 9/11, you could retire, exit the door, and then walk back in a week later as a contractor making way more money.

That’s correct. Some people did. We’re talking lots of money. The revolving door is an understatement. The number of millionaires made at NSA, one of these open dark secrets, is phenomenal. I had very senior defense contractors attempting to compromise me, co-opt me. “Tom, you have all this access now. Sheesh. We could bring you over. You could lead our NSA business office.”

Advanced software, like what Palantir sells, boasts that it can establish connections between individuals that a human investigator or analyst would find impossible. Can’t that be reverse engineered to track down whistle-blowers?

Yes, by the very means by which you can detect patterns. What is true about technology like ThinThread or Palantir Government is the real potential for irresponsible abuse in secret and targeting those who are deemed as trouble, dissenters in government or industry – using the very technology designed for intelligence indications and warning about real threats, and then using it against internal threats like whistle-blowing and profiling their activities for identification and punishment.

They certainly did it with me using similar kinds of monitoring technology. I recognize that I was a template. I was profiled. There was no question. And part of the profiling is what was the activity set that identifies whistle-blowers. But remember, part of this requires persistent surveillance electronically. I was electronically surveilled 15 ways to Sunday. And I was physically surveilled. My car was searched, in terms of patterns, far more frequently than I would have expected. And I realized what was happening but I couldn’t say anything. They made no bones about that fact and part of it is intimidation. It’s sending the message: “We know what you’re up to.”

Jesselyn Radack: Which brings us back to the dark ages. Pay in cash. Meet in person in obscure locations. You adopt drug dealer tactics. You adopt the tactics of high-level criminals.

But by doing that, guess what you establish: you’re suspicious. And see isn’t that a Catch-22. But there is a defense to this. Forget all the furtiveness. Forget all of this stuff about what criminal enterprises do to hide their criminal activity, which is what the government is doing themselves. They’re hiding their own activity. The answer is openness and transparency, period. Right now with my colleagues, we’re not encrypting with each other when we’re communicating on the civil lawsuit. We’re wide open. We’re in the open. If they’re monitoring us, then so be it.

In the New Yorker article, Jane Mayer quotes you as saying, “I actually had hopes for Obama.” What’s your opinion on the Obama administration’s stated support for whistle-blowers and, more generally, his counterterrorism record?

Worse than Bush. I have to say that. I actually voted for Obama. It’s all rhetoric for me now. As Americans we were hoodwinked. He’s expanding the secrecy regime far beyond what the Bush even intended, interestingly enough. I think Bush is probably like, “Whoa.”

The law is to prevent him from doing it again as he did in Syria. This law is result of the administration stating that the choice of offensive act of war was determined by the UN or NATO and congress might be notified. If Obama is impeached it will be for violation of the Constitution of the US. A joint house/senate resolution was drawn up to inform Obama and the administration that they will be in violation if they performed any offensive action without the consent of congress.

I have heard from several sources that the votes already exist for Impeachment of Obama, but that it hadn't been put through because they (congress/senate) hadn't decided what to do after the fact.
