Just some info I thought I'd share, as the flu season is coming.
With flu season just around the corner, health agencies are telling Americans to just "get your flu shot," assuring everyone that it's safe and effective. Many, like MedicineNet.com,1 chalk up any and all safety concerns as "myths."
"It's the time of year when you should be thinking about flu vaccinations for yourself and your family," they write. "Some people, however, decide not to get the flu vaccine and put themselves and others at risk of getting sick just because they believe long-held myths about the vaccine."
Myths? I think not.
How to Protect Yourself During the Flu Season
Fortunately, avoiding a serious case of the flu doesn't require a flu vaccination. By following these simple guidelines, you can help keep your immune system in optimal working order so that you're far less likely to acquire the infection to begin with or, if you do get sick with the flu, you are better prepared to move through it without complications and soon return to good health.
•Optimize your vitamin D levels. As I've previously reported, optimizing your vitamin D levels is one of the absolute best strategies for avoiding infections of ALL kinds, and vitamin D deficiency may actually be the true culprit behind the seasonality of the flu – not the flu virus itself. This is probably the single most important and least expensive action you can take. Regularly monitor your vitamin D levels to confirm your levels are within the therapeutic range of 50-70 ng/ml.
Ideally, you'll want to get all your vitamin D from sun exposure or a safe tanning bed, but as a last resort you can take an oral vitamin D3 supplement. According to the latest review by Carole Baggerly (Grassrootshealth.org), adults need about 8,000 IU's a day.
•Avoid Sugar and Processed Foods. Sugar impairs the function of your immune system almost immediately, and as you likely know, a healthy immune system is one of the most important keys to fighting off viruses and other illness. Be aware that sugar (typically in the form of high fructose corn syrup) is present in foods you may not suspect, like ketchup and fruit juice.
•Optimize Your Gut Flora. The best way to do this is avoid apply the step above by avoiding sugars, processed foods and most grains, and replacing them with healthy fats and taking regular amounts of fermented foods which can radically improve the function of your immune system
•Get Enough Rest. Just like it becomes harder for you to get your daily tasks done if you're tired, if your body is overly fatigued it will be harder for it to fight the flu. Be sure to check out my article Guide to a Good Night's Sleep for some great tips to help you get quality rest.
•Have Effective Tools to Address Stress. We all face some stress every day, but if stress becomes overwhelming then your body will be less able to fight off the flu and other illness. If you feel that stress is taking a toll on your health, consider using an energy psychology tool such as the Emotional Freedom Technique, which is remarkably effective in relieving stress associated with all kinds of events, from work to family to trauma.
•Get Regular Exercise. When you exercise, you increase your circulation and your blood flow throughout your body. The components of your immune system are also better circulated, which means your immune system has a better chance of finding an illness before it spreads. Be sure to stay hydrated – drink plenty of fluids, especially water.
•Take a Good Source of Animal-Based Omega-3 Fats. Increase your intake of healthy and essential fats like the omega-3 found in krill oil, which is crucial for maintaining health. It is also vitally important to avoid damaged omega-6 oils that are trans fats and in processed foods as it will seriously damage your immune response.
•Wash Your Hands. Washing your hands will decrease your likelihood of spreading a virus to your nose, mouth or other people. Be sure you don't use antibacterial soap for this – antibacterial soaps are completely unnecessary, and they cause far more harm than good. Instead, identify a simple chemical-free soap that you can switch your family to.
•Tried and True Hygiene Measures. In addition to washing your hands regularly, cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. If possible, avoid close contact with those, who are sick and, if you are sick, avoid close contact with those who are well.
•Use Natural Antibiotics. Examples include oil of oregano and garlic. These work like broad-spectrum antibiotics against bacteria, viruses, and protozoa in your body. And unlike pharmaceutical antibiotics, they do not appear to lead to resistance.
•Avoid Hospitals. I'd recommend you stay away from hospitals unless you're having an emergency and need expert medical care, as hospitals are prime breeding grounds for infections of all kinds. The best place to get plenty of rest and recover from illness that is not life-threatening is usually in the comfort of your own home.

This was written during that time period of the bird flu scare.
All of these are good ideas but the Herbal remedy, garlic, beta glucan. MMS and colloidal Silver and Vitamin C will be the best and can be done at the same time, (except vitamin c and MMS) The treatments for flu in general are the same, whether swine flu, common flu, or bird flu. You want to use the most powerful and effective treatment that you can find. None of this has been studied, except for maybe vitamin c. Studies on these protocols are far and few between, ha! Ditto for flu vaccine and tamaflu.
If/When the flu Epidemic comes:
I recommend that you prepare well in advance for the flu because if you wait till the last minute these products will be gone. Many people know about these alternative treatments and the stores will be rushed upon. Deciding which protocol to use comes from personal knowledge, personal preference and past experience.
Vitamin c
1 to 2000 mg every hour until diarrhea occurs then back off.
This is called reaching bowel tolerance. When the body has all the Vitamin C it can use diarrhea occurs. After diarrhea happens wait a few hours and start again.
In major emergency just start out with 10 grams (People with chronic health conditions like cancer, COPD, who are on a number of drugs, who have immune diseases should start with 20 grams) that may be repeated every 2 hours through the day and if you awaken at night take it then also. One should test what their bowel tolerance is before they get sick so they will have knowledge of a starting point. But be aware that your bowel tolerance may increase if you are sick due to the increased need for vitamin C. There is wide difference in the opinions on how to get to bowel tolerance. The most important thing is to get there and fast.

Make sure your serum vitamin d3 levels are at least 60. If you have chronic disease between 80 and 100. It may not prevent or cure the flu but it may help you to survive it if it is a killer strain.
During acute illness take 50,000 IU 3 x day for 3 to 4 days.

Have it on hand because you will not be able to get it if a severe flu strikes. I guarantee, it will be almost impossible to get. Keep a room air ozonator running at all times to keep the air and surfaces clean of bacteria and virus.
In Germany they give ozone in intramuscular injections to fight flu.
Disinfecting your environment

I have often used this Vitamin C cure (very effective for dermatitis) BUT it is important to continue taking Vitamin C afterwards (starting with 75% the amount you needed to reach bowel tolerance and then reducing) otherwise you end up with rebound scurvy.

I have been taking 2-3000mg of Vitamin C a day for the last 18 months and haven't got the flu once, and I would usually have gotten it about 3 times during this period. It doesn't have to be in massive doses to protect you from flu. I get the feeling that pushing your body to diarrhea point is just taking it to unnecessary extremes. You don't need to go that far and the stress of it may cause more damage than it fixes.
I would definitely say that D3 is important as well, most people have levels too low and it is one of the most important things to be up on in that it is so necessary for cell functioning. However reading the above post saying that 50,000 IU 3 x day for 3 to 4 days is appropriate for acute illness.... that is far too much. 4000IU a day for severe serum level D3 depletion is more than adequate. Taking that much of a thing; 150x the usual daily dosage on the highest strength D3 capsules for 3 to 4 days - may be harmful.

2 to 3,000mg of c a day may be helpful in preventing a flu but it will do little to cure a flu once it is already established. And 18 months without a flu is not a long time to be flu free and since you got the flu 3 times a year it is clear that you have been signficantly depleted. I would guess that you are probably still walking a thin line if that is all you have done to change your health reality.. I have not had a flu since 1994... 18 years, even though I have worked intensively around flu cases over the years.
I have given the recommendations of Linus Pauling, the master of vitamin c. If serious disease has already struck, and flu can be very serious for some people, optimal levels of c are required to cure. The sicker you are the more vitamin c is requried for the body burns it very fast and it has a very short half life once injested. The man who was dying of swine flu in New Zealand required 25,000 and 100,000 mg a day IV to save his life. Going to bowel tolerace is the way to know how much you need and can tolerate with an oral application. Ultimately lipsomal c is the answer to get very high blood levels without any diarrhea at all as it never reaches the lower intestines. Its readily absorbed and I have been encouraging everyone I know to use it and to make it, and it is the answer for small children.
Always if you or someone you know is in serious trouble from a virus, even to the point of not being able to eat, pack them up, pull them out of the hopsita and take them to a naturopath who can do IV vitamin c.

Dosage Guidelines
According to Dr. Levy's case report, the vitamin C doses administered to achieve this astonishing turn-around were:
25 grams were given intravenously on the first day
Followed by two 25 gram infusions the next day. At this point, the chest x-ray suddenly showed air pockets in Allan's lungs -- a dramatic improvement!
On the third day, Allan received 75 grams intravenously
Followed by 100 grams IV daily for another 4 to 6 days
To the Smith family's shock, a new hospital consultant decided to discontinue the vitamin C treatment at this point, which led to further battles with the hospital administration.

Regarding vitamin D3. I have done the above protocol several times and had my blood levels tested as I did so. It is not too much for severe illness and this protocol is recommended by cutting edge alternative medical doctors. It is what was required to cure my psoriasis and it may be very helpful with a severe flu.
Actually most people who get the flu are already depeted in D3. Taking 4,000 IU a day may take weeks to bring them up to an optimal blood level, which would be too little too late.
You have bought into some of the vitamin D3 myths.

about 3 flus per 18 months is not 3 flus a year. 18 months is not a year - it is one and a half years. This equals approx 2 flus a year and by that I mean anything from a cold to a flu. I would usually get one or two a year hence the use of the word 'about' [meaning approximately]. And it is quite an assumption to think that that may be all I have done to change my health reality [assuming I was unhealthy before I was taking daily vitamin c, which I wasn't] - In a post where I am just talking specifically about taking vitamin c and having gotten no flu. You don't know anything else about my health regime because I have not talked about it - I have no idea who in fact you are talking about with your fine line, but if you infer that it may refer to myself, it would be an assumptive jump about my lifestyle that you have absolutely no warrant to make.

I had not had the flu for many years, but a couple of years ago I was exposed to something that was "going around", from a friend who works in a nursing home.
I suspect it may have been bio-engineered because it was so virulent, and I had not been lax in doing my usual prevention regime.
It was really awful, and made me feel like staying away from my friend permanently.
Something I think no one has mentioned so far are the homeopathic remedies for flu and colds.
Oscillococcinum is probably the one most often recommended, but there are others.

i pop those zinc/echinacea/vit-c Halls suckers like candy and also drink herbal echinacea tea. always does the trick. you really have to stay on top of it and it takes a little discipline...but it's never let me down.

Wild Oregano oil is incredible !
I take mine in capsules that can be bought on the internet very cheaply.
Colloidal silver is also great, kills flu & colds stone dead !
This is a simple set up that works, I know it does, I use it !
Silver strips can be bought on line, they have to be pure silver, connect to a 6v battery as shown for 20-30 minutes using pure water (I use a bottled water that has a neutral ph and barely any minerals)

In the last two weeks myself, my daughter, and a friend at work have absolutely slayed cold/flu viruses by using MMS, colloidal silver, and oil of oregano. Toss in super doses of vitamins A, D, and C and the pathogens are pitifully over powered. Major symptoms manifested that normally result in a few days of misery, only to evaporate within 12 hours. Mother Nature rules, colds and viruses drool (in the parlance of 3rd graders). ;)

I always love your well thought out, logical and thoughtfull posts White feather. THis is great advise that while 30% is common sence, is not thought of often. Thanks for posting it, your a huge gift to people like me in the forums.

Can you say if taking 'Oregano herbs' would be as effective as taking the oil?
I have the herbs, & strangely felt inclined to use them last night in my cooking (which is unusual for me to use them at all)
I do take Echinachea regularly,(would recommend the ticture immediately is a cold starts-kills it stone dead!)- and D3 (to top up on 'sunshine depravation'- which we have suffered this year here in UK!!)
+ I do also have some Colloidal Silver in stock.
Agree with everthing else you recommended!

2 to 3,000mg of c a day may be helpful in preventing a flu but it will do little to cure a flu once it is already established. And 18 months without a flu is not a long time to be flu free and since you got the flu 3 times a year it is clear that you have been signficantly depleted. I would guess that you are probably still walking a thin line if that is all you have done to change your health reality.. I have not had a flu since 1994... 18 years, even though I have worked intensively around flu cases over the years.
about 3 flus per 18 months is not 3 flus a year. 18 months is not a year - it is one and a half years. This equals approx 2 flus a year and by that I mean anything from a cold to a flu. I would usually get one or two a year hence the use of the word 'about' [meaning approximately]. And it is quite an assumption to think that that may be all I have done to change my health reality [assuming I was unhealthy before I was taking daily vitamin c, which I wasn't] - In a post where I am just talking specifically about taking vitamin c and having gotten no flu. You don't know anything else about my health regime because I have not talked about it - I have no idea who in fact you are talking about with your fine line, but if you infer that it may refer to myself, it would be an assumptive jump about my lifestyle that you have absolutely no warrant to make.
Excuse me for my error. Apparrently you have a flu or cold, averaging once every 6 months, (which is actually about 2 a year) but your the one who said flu, not cold, which is much worse than a cold.
Actually you did tell us about your healh regimen. You said -

if you did more to alter your bad state of health you should have told us rather than implying 2-3000mg of c did it all. It is misleading.
