Those who depend on a well for water should make an emergency well bucket for use during times when electricity is not available.

The bucket diameter should be small enough to pass by the plumbing and electric wires inside the well casing. If you have an emergency well bucket you will never run out of water. Operation is simple. Use a rope to lower the bucket into the well casing until the bucket initially floats, then slowly sinks as the check valve opens allowing water to fill the bucket from the bottom. When the bucket is lifted the check valve closes keeping the emergency well bucket full.

This is a great solution Ron; I sent it to a couple of friends as well. I wonder about the issue of introducing bacteria into the well? Perhaps it's simply a matter of boiling the water before drinking it.
I just checked out your wonderful website - lots of interesting ideas and helpful information there. Thank you very much.

Great bucket idea!!! Thanks Much!

How long do you need to boil water to kill all of the bacteria?

-0- minutes... yep... 0... That's because 175 degrees kills all bacteria, even ecoli, and salmoella. By the time the water gets to 212 degrees boiling, everything is dead. So just bring it to boil, and then take it off the stove. simple. I like simpe.

It is good to handle the bucket with clean hands. Be careful where the rope and bucket are placed when outside of the well. If there is some question of contamination, a quick rub down with a Clorox/water solution is an easy solution.

If the water in well is clean there should not be any need for pasteurization or boiling.
