Ikea are accused of using political prisoners as forced labour in East Germany. We know that America does this, but how many other countries and companies are doing the same thing?

The point is, calling someone a political prisoner or terrorist, that could be a very vague area. 21 million people are in forced labour in the world.

"merrie-olde" has been doing it for quite some time.

Workers who are "detained at Her Majesty's pleasure" has been very common in the commonwealth... for quite some time.

For export products, of course!

:p

Yes, even in the UK - cheap labour for private corporations.

One in the past was ...."The Dartmoor prison's inmate rehabilitation scheme" (semi-formally called "Prison industries")

Although, intent, actions, and results... count for quite a bit. The situation is that I doubt much of this that has occurred in a 'western society' has ever benefited the given prisoners involved.

One could argue that all those with a mortgage/ rent / bills / and a job are all likewise prisoners of debt and forced to work, due to the corporate strangle hold on humanity.

Don't forget, money is debt.

Prime minister Stephen Harper of Canada has cancelled some prison systems of internal employment and use that created and kept in existence, a situation that caused inmates to be 'gainfully employed' and of service to the prison system..so that the prison systems cost less for the citizens of Canada. that the prison systems had reduced costs for the public, and where more correctly functional on all levels.

He did this, apparently, as a form of setting the stage for a prison population increase (building more prisons) and to bring in American style fascism and prison labouring for corporate interests. corporate interests who will be paid to keep the prisons and to sell said labour (for profit) to said corporations, who will profit.

That is what he is setting up. First stage was the removal of prison farms (without telling the public what the next step is), where the prisoner's grew their own food and had their own herds of animals. They said it 'cost too much' to maintain, when it had reduced costs by a factor of about 4x, and kept the prisoners occupied and actually was very good for their rehabilitation.

This is not new style humanitarian, functional...rehabilitation.... this is old school, as in prehistoric old style slavery, brought into modern times.

Where the hell do these psychotics come from and who are the people who are dumb enough to elect them?
