Stopping to get gas this afternoon, I was met while filling the tank by this lovely message placed on top of the pump, courtesy of big brother. Stand on one side see one picture, stand on the other side, see the other picture. It made me feel so safe and secure, just knowing that he will spare no expense or man power, day and night, to make sure I'm wearing my seatbelt. Hell, I'm beaming just thinking about our public servants out there watching over us with night vision goggles, because they care so much...http://www.bigtenfever.com/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif

This is in the Tampa Bay area by the way. Some good samaritan added the silly mustache.

Seatbelts are not for our safety. They are for the safety of the taxes we ought to cough up ;) But i guess it is not news to you :)

My mother said (in humour) they where for making it easy for the police to identity the burned and bloody torso that was still strapped to the easy to find car seat. As the wallet would remain in the pocket.

But seriously, seatbelts do make a humongous difference in human lives, safety wise, regarding vehicular collisions.

Anyway, Fred..you ARE in the USA.. where advertizing, of any kind, for any reason... does tend to be applied with large blunt instruments.

Yes, it's all about safety... the fact the Governments make millions of dollars out of the driver is just an accident. I can't wait for new laws and fines to be even safer still!

One of my great joys is to drive to and from the grocery store - a distance of about one thousand feet- without my seatbelt on. It is crazy, reckless and quite likely to kill me one day but I can't resist the thrill. It is immensely exhilarating to feel so completely responsible for one's own safety and to have made a logical assessment of the risks involved. Just prior to reaching my destination, the car's sense of concern chimes in to point out my seemingly unintentional oversight, but I respond to it with a defiant verbal assault.

Seriously though, I do value the potential benefits of utilizing the belt and willingly wear it for the vast majority of my driving but I place more value on my sense of self-determination.

I love how they spend my tax dollars on stupid crap like that. It's a personal choice whether or not to wear a seat belt. I always do, but if I choose not to it isn't the governments job to make me... Same goes for motorcycle helmet laws. You can't protect people from themselves.

I once had a friend who never wore a seat belt (and probably still doesn't). It was irritating to ride with him because his car would beep every minute or so to 'remind' him to put his belt on. He had managed to block the sound out of his mind, but it drove me nuts!!

When I was 17 I had an accident where, if I had been wearing my seat belt (this is waaay before it became law), I would have had my head crushed because the top of the car compacted when I rolled my car and if I hadn't had been able to lay across the seat I wouldn't be here today.
(I'm 6'4")
I think wearing seatbelts (or helmets) should be a choice, not a law.

P.S. Like your graphics shadowstalker! LOL
