In August 2003, I was living at the YMCA in Glendale, California (Los Angeles area). I was down to my last $100, with no job and no prospect of a job. There was no air-conditioning at the Y, and the rooms were miserably hot.
One evening I went out to the main Boulevard and purchased a cup of coffee at Starbucks. I sat under the awning on the sidewalk, watched the cars go by and gazed at the lights in the shops across the street. Then two things happened at the same time:
It began to rain so hard that the cars had to come to a stop,
and Frank Sinatra began to sing Fly Me To The Moon
Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like
On Jupiter and Mars ...
The moment was beautiful, and no matter how bad a situation may appear to be, there's always a little bit of heaven.
