Reading the book of Enoch, it appears that the
tree of knowledge is a real tree with real fruit
growing on it.

A man called Khanokh, is being shown visions
and he has just left one and is now entering
another one.

From Chapter 1 of Khanokh:

1: After these fragrant odors, as I looked towards
the north over the mountains, I saw seven mountains
full of choice nard and fragrant trees and cinnamon
and pepper.

2: And from there I went over the summits of all these
mountains, far towards the east of the land, and passed
above the Erythraean sea and went far from it, and passed
over the *malach Zotiel. So I came to the Garden of Obedience.

3: And from far off I saw trees more numerous than these
trees. But there were two large trees there, very great,
beautiful and splendid and magnificent, also the tree of
knowledge, of which they eat the very special fruit and
thereby recognize great *chokma.

4: This tree is like the fir in height and its leaves are like
those of the Carob tree.

5: Its fruit is like the clusters of the vine, very
beautiful, and the fragrance of the tree penetrates afar.

6: Then I said, ‘How beautiful is the tree, and how
attractive is its appearance!’ Then Raphael, the *qadosh
malach who was with me, answered me and said, ‘This is
the tree of chokma, of which your aged father and mother
before you have eaten, and they learned chokma. Yes, their
eyes were opened, and they knew they were naked, so they
were driven out of the garden.’

* malach, malachim = supernatural messengers, angelic men or beings
* chokma (COKE-mah) = wisdom, understanding; often personified.
* qadosh, qodesh, qadoshim = set apart, set apart ones, saints

Make of it what you will.
