Monsanto could get everything it wants for Christmas, unless we convince legislators this week to strip both the 2013 Agriculture Appropriations Bill (H.R. 5973) and the Farm Bill of dangerous riders that would give the biotech industry unprecedented power and immunity from not only an already-weakened review process, but also from federal law. Tell Congress to dump the "Monsanto Protection Act" and other dangerous riders! (http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/o/50865/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=8644)

Here’s what’s at stake. Attached to the Agricultural Appropriations Bill is the “Farmers Assurance Provision” (Section 733) which is nothing more than a sneak attack on American farmers, consumers and the environment. If passed, this rider, aptly renamed the “Monsanto Protection Act,” would give Monsanto immunity from federal law by allowing the biotech industry to plant genetically modified crops, even if a federal court has ordered the planting be halted until an Environmental Impact Statement is completed.

On the Farm Bill side, Monsanto lobbyists have bought themselves several anti-regulatory riders that would effectively gut the USDA’s ability to regulate the use of genetically engineered organisms (GMOs). The riders would speed up the review and approval process for new GE crops, and authorize the USDA to consider exempting certain GE crops from any review at all.

Now that Congress has returned, both bills are on the agenda. The Agriculture Appropriations could become part of an Omnibus Appropriations Bill and the Farm Bill could be included in a deficit-reduction agreement to avoid the "fiscal cliff.

Thankfully, we have at least one friend in Congress. Representative Peter DeFazio (D-OR) is circulating a letter to all of his colleagues in Congress opposing the “Monsanto Protection Act.” By signing our action alert below, you can ask your legislators to sign on to Rep. DeFazio’s “Dear Colleague” letter. You’ll also be asking your legislators to oppose the Farm Bill riders.

Don’t let Monsanto get away with this latest attack on farmers, consumers and the environment! Take action today! (http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/o/50865/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=8644)

Organic Consumer's is my favorite 'charity'. I give them more money than any other organization. I have sent the messages to my Congresscritters.

And let us all thank Supreme Ruler Obama for appointing so many Monsanto thugs to his administration. The list is sickening.

Please keep an eye on the companies attending CEO summits. It's where some of that lateral networking stuff might happen...
you know what that is?

Everything so hidden from the public that the companies are afraid anti-terror laws will start to apply to them.
Let's pass laws to protect life from terror, for example, terror in FOOD propagated by monsanto! would be a nice change.

We should be able to walk on a dam, go to a movie, without being ashamed or afraid.
How come those companies can run roughshod over us?
We are their lifeblood is why, we need to CUT THEM OUT like a CANCER

What an utter disgrace. All the legislators should be sacked and subjected to forensic accounting investigations and the full force of the law.

The voters should be sacked too for allowing this kind of corruption to continue unchecked for so many decades! What the hell is wrong with the complacent public?

Monsanto executives and directors should be jailed for conspiracy to commit crimes against humanity.

If Monsanto wants to be immune from federal law I say let them, but total immunity, so no law will protect Monsanto from the masses. Sometimes being an evil Genie and granting wishes to scumbags doesn't sound to bad.

why should a corporation be immune from any federal law?
Why should they be rated as superior and having special privilege and not having to conform to all that the rest have to?
