12 years ago you could purchase wild caught salmon in Dallas Texas supermarkets for 1.50 to 3.00 a pound. Now it is 8.00 and up a pound with farm raised trailing at about 4 to 6.00 a pound. Of course price hikes are likely due to the masses understanding the benefits of salmon and particularly the benefits of wild caught salmon that farm raised do not have.
Prison planet reports that the biased FDA has approved genetic modification of farm raised salmon to be safe and the project is free to continue. What this is going to come down to is that any farm raised salmon in the not too distant future will be GM along with being dyed in color and sterilized. Just how they will sterilize these fish I could not find out.
It is predicted that with in 40 fish generations the whole wild fish population could be contaminated.
You should assume that all farm raised salmon will be GM in the next few years. Since no lableing is requried you have no choice but to assume.

We need to be consuming our omega-3's from plant sources. We don't need to eat fish, it is clear fish is quickly disappearing as a viable food option.

Not a hybrid. A genetically modified fish with the genes of other fish put into the Altantic Salmon. This could have drastic results for the natural Altantic Salmon

As far as labeling this is what we are up against
Mandatory labeling of genetically engineered (GE) foods in the United States has been proposed, but not enacted, at the national, state, and local levels.
Those in favor of labeling emphasize consumers’ right to know what’s in their food.
Opponents of labeling point out the expense and logistical difficulties of labeling, and the fact that no significant differences have been found between GE and conventional foods.
Implementation of mandatory labeling will require resolution of several complex technical issues.

Yeurk, not again, bio fish is very expensive. I've got to get rich, otherwise we are doomed to brain damage.
I was listening to a video on drugs on kids, did you know that kids taking ritalin for many years have a 10% reduction in brain size? The pressure is all around us, in our food, in the drugs, and it is all around for the nice species we have in nature as well.

I have a strong feeling that in years to come, non GMO salmon & other food will become expensive and sought after like "organic" food is today. Maybe we should build a little pond in our gardens and fill it with non-GMO salmon now.

This company "Aquabounty" is currently farming conventional Atlantic salmon very close to where I live. They were given a number of tax incentives and grants to set up in an "economically depressed area" due to the collapse of the inshore fishing industry.
The new "species" is a cross of Atlantic salmon with genes of Pacific Chinook salmon and the Atlantic Pout (a relative of the eel) to enable it to produce growth hormone year round and thus grow twice as fast. This will be the first genetically modified animal approved for human consumption. The "Frankenfish" would be bred female and sterile, although it states " a very small percentage may be able to breed".
Here's a CBC report from the AP release. Note that it was released the Friday afternoon before Christmas, a common tactic to avoid attention as much as possible.
