View Full Version : Show me Something Wonderful
Hiram

Okay my friends, kind and surly souls alike. I have been composing an essay on the human species and its relationship with the Earth, and I thought this would be a good moment to be reminded of why this little blue jewel is a great place.
Please post something here you find wonderful, beautiful, funny, delicate, moving or powerful.
As an exercise, you can pretend that someone has their finger on button and is planning on destroying this world, unless they can be convinced its worth saving. Everyone loves something, something is precious to everyone. Videos, photos, words....I'll start us off with something simple:

My favorite quote from Jiddu Krishnamurti is (paraphrasing): One cannot bring Truth down, rather, one must aspire to ascend to it.

Thank you, Hiram, for making reference to Krishnamurti. He really was a pure soul.
He resisted to play out the role of a Messias (the next Jesus Christ), as it was prepared for him through the leaders of the Theosophical Society in India.
Instead of putting himself on this pedestal, he stayed very humble and truthful. His gentle voice was reaching far. A radiant example.
* * * * *
We are challenged again and again to differentiate between truth and illusion. We have to set our priorities so that the spiral of development turns upwards instead of downwards.
Watching others is a great chance to learn - specially when these examples stand for spiritual truth.
This planet Earth gives us wonderful opportunities to compare, to learn, to realize because of the countless games played out at the same time.
You wanted something wonderful?
It's even more than that: It's a MIRACLE, when someone wakes up to his/her inner truth.
The chances are offered on this blue jewel! We can take it!
This is why I honor this planet so much.

it's been really bothering me, something in this otherwise very nice video -- i swear i am not seeking to disparage you in any way, Celine -- but one of the people singing in this video is a soldier w/some kind of big gun, either shooting it or aiming it to shoot as he's singing -- i wonder who the sponsors/makers of this video are -- nice bit of working in war as part of the Boom De Ya Da there

I hope this comedy skit counts. It's about an aristocratic English Lord, Ralph and his gardener Ted.
Despite class, nationality and sexuality it's about Love. The moment when Ralph snaps at his
horrible friend shows a moment when all the passion that has been bubbling away inside is finally
let out...[

Lovely thread Hiram, nice to see you take that mod's hat off for a while - and thanks for all that you do.
All I can 'show' you is a paragraph from James Joyce describing the 'incipient intimations of proximate dawn' viewed in one of these videos:
He remembered the initial paraphenomena?
More active air, a matutinal distant cock, ecclesiastical clocks at various points, avine music, the isolated tread of an early wayfarer, the visible diffusion of the light of an invisible luminous body, the first golden limb of the resurgent sun perceptible low on the horizon.

All I'm saying is simply this, that all life is interrelated, that somehow we're caught in an inescapable network of mutuality tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly. For some strange reason, I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. You can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality.
— Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
For some reason this always resonates with me more than the more famous "I have a dream" speech. To be able to sum up a concept so beautiful in so few words is truly a sign of a great human being. Always makes me cry too, as I read it I hear his voice.
Respect Dr King you were a great soul!

Every day I write the list
Of reasons why I still believe they do exist
(a thousand beautiful things)
And even though it's hard to see
The glass is full and not half empty
(a thousand beautiful things)
So... light me up like the sun
To cool down with your rain
I never want to close my eyes again
Never close my eyes
Never close my eyes
I thank you for the air to breathe
The heart to beat
The eyes to see again
(a thousand beautiful things)
And all the things that's been and done
The battle's won
The good and bad in everyone
(this is mine to remember)
So ...
Here I go again
Singin' by your window
Pickin' up the pieces of what's left to find
The world was meant for you and me
To figure out our destiny
(a thousand beautiful things)
To live
To die
To breathe
To sleep
To try to make your life complete
(yes yes)
So ...
Light me up like the sun
To cool down with your rain
I never want to close my eyes again
Never close my eyes
never close my eyes ...
That is everything I have to say
(that's all I have to say)
