Typically it costs about 8-10K for a nice 400mm telephoto lens for an SLR camera to pull in those nice long shots. Digiscoping provides a low cost alternative. I'm hoping to try it out soon on skywatching. Does anyone currently do this type of digiscoping photography?

A subject that I don't seem to find being covered, is the ability of the camera to do completely manual focus, at the same time it has manual control of contrast or light sensitivity adjustment. As well, to separate focus at the same time the rest of the camera works automatically, with regard to contrast or lighting adjustment. Light sensitivity and exposure time, as a pair, along with focus..both need to be separately adjustable, with regard to being auto and manual.

it is also possible to carry what in the old days would be a captain's scope, like the classic wooden ship captain uses. In it's modern form, the highest quality lowest price versions, specifically the most compact...would in the realm of rifle scopes. Which can be easily carried and affixed to the tiny camera of a cell phone, which can be 5 megapixel or more these days. such a device can have the crosshairs removed by manual tear down of the scope. It might be prudent to remove them...
