Magic Mushrooms Confirmed As Cancer Drug
http://disinfo.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Psilocybe.mexicana-300x225.jpg
The shamanic use of sacred plants has long demonstrated some amazing mental health benefits. Now a new study reports that magic mushrooms, a/k/a psilocybin, are beneficial for terminal cancer patients.
Terminally ill cancer patients struggling with anxiety may get some relief from a guided “trip” on the hallucinogenic drug psilocybin, a new study suggests.
The study included 12 patients who took a small dose of psilocybin — the active ingredient in “magic mushrooms” — while under the supervision of trained therapists. In a separate session, the participants took a placebo pill, which had little effect on their symptoms.

'Magic mushrooms' ingredient may ease end-of-life anxiety

Psychiatrists and psychologists began exploring the effects of hallucinogens on the mood and anxiety of dying patients in the 1950s, but the research stopped abruptly when psilocybin, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), and other mind-altering drugs were outlawed in the 1970s.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a handful of small studies involving hallucinogens since the 1990s, but the field is still emerging.
Grob's study is the first of its kind in more than 35 years. It was funded by private foundations and the Heffter Research Institute, a nonprofit organization based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, that has been a major sponsor of the second-generation hallucinogen research.

Hmmm , i for one wouldnt go anywhere near them again . Me and two friends ended up in hospital after taking them when we was 14 years old in wales . We took 300 each which is far too much and it was a horrible expirience . For 12 hours i didnt know what or where i was and the halucinations were far too much to cope with .

These shrooms grow all around me here in the cow pastures and forests - maybe I could start a holistic treatment center or have the next woodstock event. LOL :p

David Icke has been once in a while running articles re the curative effects of marijuana
here's a link to part 1 of a 7-part video [not from D Icke] 'Run From the Cure --The Rick Simpson Story' -- a Canadian farmer who has discovered that hemp oil is an amazing healing substance

Magic mushrooms to "ease the end of life anxiety".. i can see how it could help... though i am not sure that is for everyone.
Hemp is a great healing tool as well as a reusable resource.
i believe at a grass roots level there are more realistic views on using these "drugs" to help balance a healthy life style then mainstream information would lead us to belive.

James Arthur - Mushrooms and Mankind
James Arthur, one of the worlds leading experts in Ethnomycology, takes you on an exploration of symbolism from modern-day folk traditions to some of the most ancient religious writings known to mankind. The repression of human consciousness and sexuality does more harm to mankind than we could have possibly imagined. Why is it that these things are considered Taboo? The answers will amaze you!

There are countless studies showing evidence of the healing potential of many of these plants that we have pushed outside of our cultural and moral boundaries. Ayahuasca vine, cannabis, Lophophora and Trichosirius cactus, the tryptamine containing mushrooms; they have all been proven themselves rich with medicinal value even outside of their psychedelic uses.
These plants have been a part of the human story since the very beginning, the evidence is not only there in fossil and archeological record, but in the way that our brains are wired to accept and process these chemicals.
We have broken our symbiosis with the plant kingdom to our own demise, and it is vital that we again embrace these plants and explore the mysteries they reveal to us; it is our birthright.

I have always believed they are here to show what is possible but not to abuse them. They help to break down walls and our manufactured perceptions, to see what we cannot normally see with the eyes alone. If it cures and reduces pain and suffering all the better. When used to control pain drugs often lose their side effects like addiction...

Anything that the government doesn't want me to have because it has been characterised as 'bad for me' I translate as being 'bad for them' for me to have. If those making mushrooms illegal were really concerned about the health of the nation they would instead be trying to learn more about them rather than pretending that the sort of people that take magic mushrooms will listen to them. People with the responsibility to 'look after' the health of the population should IMO be constantly learning about what makes a person healthy, not creating laws that only serve their masters/funders/handlers.
I know very little about guns and have no direct experience of them. Nobody would be well advised to accept my knowledge on guns to be in any way complete. The same is true of magic mushrooms, if you haven't experienced them you cannot describe their benefits in the complete sense.
300 is definitely too many!! I haven't taken them in years, but take 25 and everything becomes crystal clear!

Depends on if you take them freshly picked or dried on the AGA...... I prefer the fresh ones....
I talked with the birdies once during sunset after a trippy night, crystal clear conversation, I was in his territorium.....

Ladies & Gentlemen;
This is Fred the left-over hippie from 1967.
I am stepping out of my time machine to remind all that, threads advocating the use of illegal drugs will get this forum shut down, without warning, without recourse, and without mercy.
Bill, and the mods will not get a warning, it will simply be gone.
While some may consider this the very kind of "draconian, unfair, and unwarranted crushing of freedom of speech" this site is sometimes (in-)famous for... when it comes to risking the loss of this entire place, I really don't care.
Trust me that this thread will disappear, before the whole site does.
Anyone who knows me, knows how much I flat hate having to type this, but please...
Think before you post.
'nuff said
Fred

Hey Swami, back to the sixties, for me! By the way I like the remarks of Steven and Horizon, on this thread, termendously, thanks! :)
I imagine magic mushrooms can ease anxiety for terminal cancer patients, but I suspect that goes for any terminal ill patient, or someone in anxiety, when it's used for it's psychological benefit, hmmmm? As I am a healthfoodconsultant I like to give a bit of info on their nature: mushrooms are part of nature in the "decay department" so to speak. They take up their role in dark mushy autumn energy and are opposite the Light energies of the Sun. Here's a connection with the awakening of the unconscious levels (dark inner realms) when used.
I don't mean to label them negative, as they are part of a great cycle of life, magical and beautiful too :) In their hallucinating effects I am not an expert at all, the only time I used mescalin was in 1969, sitting on a balcony communicating with a tree....:) one of the most amazing beautiful experiences I have had. Trees are still great friends of mine! Maybe using magic mushrooms, to reduce anxiety in terminal cancer patients is a way to let them get used to "The Other Side?" so they know what is awaiting them? I also imagine some patients will greatly despair on such "highs" when they manifest their fears......before they actually die and meet them then! Which could be beneficial, when they arrive on the Other Side and are relieved to see it's not worse as these nightmares they had on the magic mushrooms.....massive grin :) I agree with Celine, here in her posting, where she says "though i am not sure that is for everyone".
Some meaningful reports on the use of magic mushrooms is in the books by Carlos Castaneda "The teachings of Don Juan" etc, I think Castaneda's work shows genuine shamanism. I can read the whole series every 5 years and still I find new insights in them. Nice thread, for a change, Swami, the Dutch are famous for their Nederweed and this I find sooooo funny! Picture us dancing on wooden shoes getting stuck in the clay! :) Tint.

Oh, by the way, I am not at all in favor of using these magic mushrooms.....! There are dangers lurking in them, when used unwise. I know far better highs than what these things can do....uhhhh does this makes things worse....Fredkc? :)

Yep fred.......please go and read the guidelines folks re talk on illicit drug use, there are other on line places in which this kind of chat is ok, but not here. You all agreed to the guidelines when joining, so talking in this manner is like turning up to a party and pulling out your personal fix in front of the host........so not cool ettiquet at all (please forgive my spelling). This topic is about the health benifits of psychotropics and not about personal recreational use, keep it 'scientific' please, or I'm afraid it will be closed. This is from someone who has taken many things but does not need to chitchat over it ;) .

Tintagelcave, I agree with you (comment # 14) that mushrooms are part of the decay dept in foods as they grow best in autumn in the decaying falling leaves and are a darker energy. I prefer light energy in what I ingest.Dark green chlorophyll and non toxic flowerpetals that would be served in a healthfood restaurant a little cold pressed olive oil and lemon juice for dressing.. I get a "spiritual high" from these. I don't eat mushrooms at all . Aren't there many people that have had negative entity experiences on mushrooms? Anyway just because something has been used for thousands of years doesn't mean it's "safe" for the body mind and spirit to use. I do respect everyones right to the experience.
