Why do the majority of people have so much affection for the royal family? They seem to have an irrational love for a dysfunctional family that do not give a flying f**k about the "commoners" / slaves. The only reason that the royal family attend public events is to retain their power and keep themselves popular. Giving peerages to the most obedient "Commoners" sorry "Slaves" also helps them retain their influence and popularity with the people. The next time you see the Queen "carrying out her public duties" look into her eyes. I guarantee that you will not see someone who is grateful and respectful of the public. Instead, you will see a sneering face full of scorn as we the public have dragged her out of her lavish comfort zone into the public arena where she has to pretend that she loves the public that supports her. Take a look back at the Queen's facial expressions during both the London Olympics and her Jubilee celebrations and try and spot a genuine smile!

We are fed umpteen stories as children about how great it would be to be a princess or prince and umpteen cartoons about loving caring Kings queens sultans emperors etc.. it is a type of brain washing that starts at childhood I believe comissioned by the old royals for thier next generation..

We've been programmed to love them. All that pomp and those parade are nothing but mind control to put in mind how much we should love them. After all, they are the bloodline successors to those who bludgeoned some unworthy bastards, whom, if our current royals ancestors were not successful, we would have to watch them parade in carriages and have lavish weddings. But we are so fortunate to have them instead. And of course they did such a wonderful job conquering the less developed world and extorting the wealth from these nations, that you shouldn't dare call them parasites, because don't know how to wear such splendid jewels.

It's amazing to me how aware we have become in the past 50 years. I'm going back that far because then if you said anything about people paying their taxes to keep monarchies in luxuries and how ridicules it was, it would be like spitting in their faces--the worst insult.
Why are we humans so easily conditioned into believing the most insane things that we see all the time?

I think it´s not only because of brainwashing, but esp. because looking up to a leader/king/queen/president/chief ties into a deep-seated and fundamental
need most people have; i.e. the need for a parent-figure to provide us with safety/direction/comfort/structure/order. It matters less that the parent-figure is usurping you or sending you to war, than the fact that it simply is there as a unifying factor and point of reference.

This, I think, is the explanation why so many people doggedly stick to religions/superstitions or continue being loyal to leaders, who obviously are corrupt. Because
total freedom is too overwhelming to handle for most people. It means you have to manage standing 100% alone, being responsible for carving out your own existence in a world of chaos and anarchy. Few are prepared to do that. They prefer the safety and predictability (imagined or real) of a life structured by some authority.

"quiet desperation is the English way"...form one of my favorite songs...

yes I do believe the "commoners" are suffering from Stockholm Syndrome"....I for one cannot understand their loyalty to a system that continues to fail them. Sadly I believe the USA is headed down the same path...

I always, well frequently, post snide comments about the royal family in the UK papers. I get these little emails telling me to behave and act like a proper Roger. Well, Roger this Queenie.............

Royalty churns the bile in my gut and makes it rise up until I need to spit it on them.

A lot of base comments here, I don't know these people I just know of some their public works, and this certainly isn't enough to make me want to join with you.

The only royal I ever liked was Princess Diana. She did some great charity work. However in the end she didn't fit the mold and was cut.

Any family that openly welcomes a necrophiliac paedophile into their household and accepts him as an advisor, with invitations to private social/family gatherings and does not publicly explain themselves has lost any respect they may have had in my eyes.

So many questions need answering about the relationship these people had with Saville, how deep it went/goes I don't think we will ever know but something far darker is hidden in all this pompous crap.

I don't think people in America (north & south) have any special feelings for royalty at all, as were were born in "democracies", where that kind of crap doesn't exist.
