they shut the highways down so they can clear them, this is nothing new and I don't see it as martial law. I am a Yankee, always have been. where's the martial law?
today the sun is out and the roads are clear and life resumes.

Warning bells went off when I heard that this was in effect. Like a test of some sorts. Also the storm's curious name, which may or may not be coincidence:
Nemo is a Latin word meaning "no man" or "no one".

I was born in upstate New York--Cohoes north or Albany where the Hudson meets the Mohawk. We prepared to be snowed in weeks at a time and were. We lived on a small farm. There were no plows for country roads. The cities had plows etc. And we often got this much snow when in the 40s and 50s and no one even considered martial law nor would it have been accepted over snow. What is wrong with this country--other than everything?

Here it is, in black and white!!!Huge monetary fines or jail for driving on a public road. THAT IS martial law my friend. Did you bother to read the article?
As of 5:00 PM EST Friday, authorities in multiple Northeastern US states have implemented martial law, due to “the weather.”
Facing up to one year in jail and a $1000 fine for merely driving their own cars on public streets and highways, citizens in various areas within the New England region have been hit with executive orders, threatening residents with criminal penalties if they leave their homes and attempt to drive during the current snowstorm.

yes, I did read the article. When I lived in CT, for the past several years they would shut the HIGHWAYS down and impose a fine for driving on them during the storm. and that was 10 years ago. I just never saw it as martial law, we'd just hop on the snow mobile. I live in Maine now and they don't impose these fines here as far as I know.
I'll pick my battles, and not get my panties in a knot over this one.

Define driving..... is traversing in other than a motor vehicle driving. If I was out with snow shoes or skis the above statement would be irrelevant. Need to define true martial law also. Emergency measures are for safety. Trying to prevent un necessary stranded motorists in a blizzard is saving critical use of emergency resources for those who need it and not those willing to commit suicide by blizzard. IMHO

Not everything is a conspiracy folks.
Of course martial law has been declared and needed to be. I’m always amazed at how stupid people can be and especially in situations as this.
There are always people who think they can get out on the roads . . .probably for a six pack of beer . . . get stuck and put their life in danger and actually have the audacity and expectation that someone should come rescue them, therefore, putting those peoples lives at risk.
No common sense anymore and/or many who think the rules don’t apply to them. So huge fines and strict regulations have to be put in place to try to keep as many people safe as possible.
Take a deep breathe . . . .this call was smart.

exactly blufire, and having driven the highways in CT MA &RI for many many years , you have a big population and a ton of aggressive drivers. and ofcourse the laws don't apply to them.....so hence. a fine for doing so.

Here in Bennington, Vermont they made big announcements saying its a historical storm shut schools down 1 day before the storm and we ended up with 6 inches. When I was a kid 12 inches of snow was the norm.

:wizard:1974, My family and I were leaving Christmas in California, with relatives, for our home in North Idaho. As we drove north out of Weed, Ca., we came across a road block, with a nice state patrolman, who said that we could not proceed without chains. I told him that I'm from Idaho! I don't need chains. I have walnut caps with studs on all 4 wheels. He had no idea what I was even talking about and examined the front tire. He asked why I put them on the front. I told him so I can steer. He said do they work? I said "Yes." And drove away.
Closing roads for safety, is nothing new and has been going on for a very long time. Ariving at the other end of a closed road, safely, I have never been fined for it. However I do know some who tried, and became stranded, and were fined heavily for causing rescue crews to go out and save them.
When you call something Martial Law, that isn't, you are doing nothing but unfounded fear mongering. Under Martial Law, there will be Military road blocks, with Military patrol of all the highways and byways, and you will be forcably detained. The movie, "Under Siege", with Bruce willis, and Densil Washington, is an excellent example of what Martial Law, is really about.
As you watch Under Siege, pay very close attention at the end, when Bruce Willis has a gun pointed at Densil Washington
When "They" call Martial Law in this country for real, there will be "Foreign" Officers in charge, for that very reason. To make damn sure that "orders", are carried out. Had Bruce Willis, been a Foreign Officer, Densil Washington, would have been dead.
WTSHTF!!! Deadly Force... will be initiated.

Another restriction to control not only our bodies but our minds.
I also lived in upstate NY as a kid and we had at least one storm like this every year, where you would litterly have to dig yourself out of your house. The government would get on the radio and tell people about the conditions out there and what roads were closed and ask people to not drive. I could see a major road from my livingroom and all day long nobody would be going down the road, maybe only a handful of cars all day, presumabley those who must work like hospital employees and public utility.
It was the same when I lived in Dallas during the ice storms. The roads would be empty based on the weather and requests from local government,, not by the imposition of martial law, which is not constitutional.
Whats the matter with closing the highways and then fining people who get stuck or in accidents instead of everyone?
It is not the governments right to restict the movement of free people by the imposition of fines and jail and it is not constitutional but springs from one of the thousands of illegal laws.
If one does not see it as martial law then they dont know what martial law is. Time to get out your legal books, look at FEMA, Homeland Security and exactly what executive orders are.
Another case where the ends do not justify the means.
Seems as a nation we have lost the meaning of what freedom is and people are so gullible that they suck right up to their oppressors and give them a helping hand.

If they stated that Martial Law was in place in the NE that means that they are intending to call out the military, even if you have not seen it yet... declaring martial law 'gives them that right' It takes away all of your rights and gives them the power to put civilians into a military tribunal for disobedience if they want.
I haven't been able to find but one article that martial law was actually declared so Im wondering if its true.

It's the beging of the drip ... making the phrase martial law become routine... so folks don't panic.. ohhh they are just taking precautions, looking out for the public... the government always makes rules , then comes fines and punishment for breaking their rules, which by the way the ones affected by the rules pay the ones making the rules ... isn't being a human fun ??? earth is a blast these days...

They always sell it to you as a good thing for your benifit. There are many ways to approach this topic. However IMO the goverment LOVES to beta test their plans. At this point and time with public opinion the wway it is, if I were mayor of an area I would do everything in my power to NOT use the words Martial Law!

its like how movies and other forms of media overuse the word TERRORIST till it becomes the norm for everyone.
