Banks and bankers are now potential targets for the Real IRA, leaders of the dissident republican terror group have warned in an exclusive interview with the Guardian. Despite having only 100 activists they also said that targets in England remained a high priority.

In an attempt to tap into the intense hostility towards the banks on both sides of the Irish border they branded bankers as "criminals" and said: "We have a track record of attacking high-profile economic targets and financial institutions such as the City of London. The role of bankers and the institutions they serve in financing Britain's colonial and capitalist system has not gone unnoticed.

"Let's not forget that the bankers are the next-door neighbours of the politicians. Most people can see the picture: the bankers grease the politicians' palms, the politicians bail out the bankers with public funds, the bankers pay themselves fat bonuses and loan the money back to the public with interest. It's essentially a crime spree that benefits a social elite at the expense of many millions of victims."

Hello Irishspirit,

Personally, I do not support violent action threatening the life of even 'the banksters'.

I do agree with the REAL IRA on their 'global' accusation against the 'banksters'. But it is a hard line to draw when it comes to evaluate the details of the crimes to 'choose a target'.

It is good to know such a news though. Thanks for posting :)

Namaste, Steven

Hi Steven,

I hope you are well.

I, like you, do not support voilent crime in any way shape or form.

I post this thread only as news. Not to show support for it.

However, I do welcome the fact that there are people out there that have means to protect people from these crimes and are laying down the law to say that they will protect people.

However, I would much reather it not be a grouping such as this, a group that is hell bent on bringing the troubles back to Northern Ireland.

I have to say I support this idea. Give the bankers a little taste of misery. Perhaps stop just short of violence, but send them a huge message!

I'm not much for violence, but perhaps just the threat itself will have an impact. And since the target is a group that is injuring everyone, it may well unify rather than divide.

Bealtaine do shaol a bheith sásta agus go hiomlán, na bainc gan goid uait.

(May your life be happy and full, without the banks stealing from you.)

I hope that they get the hint coming from these people. These people are known to carry out that to which they threaten.

I'm neither for or against....it is what it is...

What I do find interesting, is whether the bankers who know what's really going on with the debt...ever thought that they would be targeted, or did they believe they were above any retribution.

I guess to sum it up...I'm wondering what the bankers in Ireland are thinking..early retirement maybe.

sojorner,

I guess that the best way to answer your question is yes, they think that they are above it. They cannot be touched.

However, with this statement from these people, it clearly shows that they are njot. Known what I know about these people, I would say that those bankers should be very very affraid of their actions.

While I share their marked lack of affection toward bankers, as more conscious beings, we're supposed to refrain from violence (unless it is self-defense).

Again, I'm not for...nor against

However, perhaps targeting bankers...IS a form of self defense.

If one can kill and destroy people with a stroke of a pen...How is that any different then using a knife or a gun?

And so it begines:

Dissident republicans blamed for Londonderry car bomb

Dissident republicans are being blamed for a car bomb attack in Londonderry.

The bomb was left close to the Ulster Bank and a row of shops in front of Da Vinci's hotel on the Culmore Road on Monday night.

It exploded shortly after midnight - about an hour after the warning was given. Dozens of homes were evacuated in the alert. No-one was injured.

However, the bank and several shops were damaged.

The area had been cleared when the bomb exploded. However, a police officer, who was standing close to the cordon, was blown off his feet by the blast.

Masonry and glass from smashed windows were strewn across the Culmore Road.

Real IRA Threatens to Blow Up Bankers (Explosive!)

By Dr. Pitchfork

I've been predicting that Ireland would be the real ground zero for bank bailout rage. They bailed out all the banks and bondholders, instituted a crash program of fiscal austerity, and the people are catching on and getting violent. The Irish papers even have editorials about whacking the bondholders. ( O si sic omnes! ) But I never thought that bank bailout rage in Ireland would come to involve Semtex and detonating cord.

In one of the most bizarre bank bailout developments to date, the Real IRA has put British bankers on notice, threatening bombing attacks on banks and bankers, including London's financial district. Given the sorry state of the economy on both sides of the border, the Real IRA may have found what turns out to be its best recruiting tactic yet: combine nationalist, anti-colonial rhetoric with the population's already seething anger at banks, bankers and the governments that bail them out.

It has went from the threat of violence, to this. What Is worse, is these people will DO IT!
