Satan is necessary

Mara is the Buddhist equivalent of Satan. It is also part of us,
and we need it to find the Buddha
('bud' means awake, and 'dha' means pure, with all karma exhausted).

The Buddha describes Mara as 'the maker of limits'.
Psychologically, if I'm in a state of anger or attachment, I'm limited.
I'm trapped in Mara's snares. Mara is that which blocks our way,
limiting our capacity to realise our true potential – Enlightenment.

In the traditional story of the Buddha's Enlightenment,
Mara tried and failed to tempt the Buddha back to worldliness.
Mara was defeated. But that does not mean he has gone away.

If we take Mara out of the picture, we lose sight of that
part of the Buddha with which we can identify – our negativity.
Remember that the nature of negativity is wisdom.
We can appreciate and see ourselves in Mara much more easily
than we can in the Buddha: until enlightenment, we won't know
what true Buddha qualities really are.

If can bring these two parts together,
we can see the unity of the two truths: the Buddha in humanity,
and Mara in enlightenment!

In this sense, Mara is not just a problem - Mara is necessary for
Enlightenment to happen. Mara is the problem without which
there would be no solution.

Satanism is reflected in our own negative emotions of:
hatred, pride, jealousy, desire (hope), aversion (fear)
all because we do not recognise (ignorance) our true nature.

The way we can practically achieve this is to understand the
true nature of our negative emotions - which is wisdom.

We need to deepen our understanding.

Totally disagree I don't think we need Satan at all . Satan in pretty much any language is pure opposite force that needs you to be open in letting other people help save you..
No..
We all have the power to save ourselves.
If you ask an awakened soul how to fight the devil, they will say with help from stronger forces..
No.
We all have the power to save ourselves.
The difference between ying and yang and heaven and hell is the thought process of how you have been taught.
Of how you have experienced the feelings from doing good or bad in your life because of how you have been taught..
Of how you feel about others and their troubles..
Of how you feel about your kin..
Of how you feel about your planet ..

The devil is already within the mind arguing and fearing everything.
It is that which has to be addressed...by us, by our true nature.
All we have to do is recognise it.

NO, we don't need anymore negative. Can't you tell we are on "overload" now? Sheesh we at this time were not told to seek satan, but to work on LOVE. I'm sure if you look around, you'll see plenty of them using his methods of confusion chaos, and murder of innocents. NO I believe if we were to evolve naturally, we would have known the truth because we would be a part right now of the Kingdom of Heaven and or at least KNOW the truth of other beings and our origin.

Think about that for a minute P'ineal. There's so much negative, it's killing children in schools.
Bite your tongue.

Every flash of anger, every sense of envy, every thought of craving all strengthen my faith that I will not give in. In confronting these childish traits of ego, they challenge me less and my maturity grows.

In a dialectically, teleologically evolving group consciousness, in a process called Apotheosis, I agree with you. In the end though, we can get along fine without him.

The way I see it, Satan cannot exist outside of human consciousness.

According to Gnostic Kabbalah and many other teachings, he is a metaphor for the bad ego within you that must be ousted. Indeed there would be no Satan without his minions to embody and manifest him. Each and every one of us is a hologram of the whole. As above, so below.

The only way to read the Bible and get the real gist of it is to apply EVERYTHING in it to oneself, even the book of Revelation. We are all going through our own personal Apocalypse at the moment. When you see "Israel", it is YOU. When you see "Jerusalem", it is YOU. When you see "Jesus Christ", it is YOU. When you see 12 tribes, or twelve apostles, it is the twelve parts of YOU.

As the old adage goes: "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was to convince the world he didn't exist."

I don't believe there is a force of evil, but just an absence of good, just as cold is the absence of heat, and darkness, the absence of light. But I do believe there are forces trying to lead us from the good, and "Mara", "Satan", "the Illuminati" and "the NWO" are all good ways to think about this problem. Our ancient notions of evil had programmed us to think that it was embodied by the kingdom on the other side of the mountain range, or by the heretic who defied "god's" authority. Now, as we move towards a one world order, we have been programmed to think that evil does not exist outside of our anti-societal impulses, and indeed a great trick has been pulled. We know there is manipulation out there and the first step towards over coming it is calling it out and showing our neighbors where it lurks.

from what i have studied, the idea of satan today is very distorted from the kabbalah, tarot, and esoteric teachings. etc

satan is described as the law of matter, for we have fallen into the law of matter, into duality, from unity. the devil is the archetype for spiritual darkness which all of us have areas to uncover. many of us live in falsehoods and beliefs we have yet to become conscious of, and many of use have to live these falsehoods before we can find our truth. failure is a necessary half of success.

to serve satan or be satanic, is to serve your lower nature and not your highest good. it is to make choices and actions in life with no spiritual foundation. it is to be a slave to your senses, especially the sex drive.........or a slave to your false identity, a slave to your need to have power over others etc etc

it is said that the quickest way back to unity is to conquer satan with his own energy, which manifests in our lowest nerve centers as sexual energy. for one of the first (if not the first?) manifestations of duality is that of male and female. It is possible for this sexual energy to be transmuted to awaken the creative divine energy which lies in the higher nerve centers and higher chakras. It is also said this path can be potentially dangerous and is not for everyone. One must become well aware of their lower natures before attempting to raise their vibration in a true sense.

There is a need for both sides to exist (light and darkness) in a balanced fashion, in every aspect of creation.

Great replies, everyone!

We are pure awareness.
Sacred clarity.
Everything arises within this, and the awareness stays pure.
When fixation on appearances within this sacred clarity
Obscures pure awareness,
Darkness rule.

We have two potentials - light and darkness.
The expression of darkness is doubt and fear
which can be used as a weapon.
The recognition of that activity is liberation.

Recognising the darkness reveals the light.
It is the light recognising itself.
That is pure awareness.

Be aware of the mind's emotional dark corners.

In a funny old way, the NWO is actually helping us
to evolve in the fastest possible way.
Because their darkness is uncovering
the darkness in our own minds.
That's the special quality of the Kali Yuga.

I firmly believe this too, Tony. Thanks for spelling it out with clarity.
This has to be understood, especially by people here on Avalon.
Too often I hear people complaining about the world today and the NWO etc. Question: If we got in charge today. For how long would peace last. Could we agree on what to do? Don´t think so, we are only "kids" still.
Until we all wise up no change or shift will occur. But when we do, we´ll deserve it. And most blissful it will be.

When I was in my late teens (yep, long time ago), read a Buddhist textbook in which it said that before the Buddha died, he asked Mara if he would need him to stay in this world (physical Earth presumably) any longer, to which Mara declined the offer. Of the few things about Buddha's teachings that I have run into, this has stuck in my mind the most.

Thanks Tony, in response to your Tread Title, being a dualistic being, I would say this, a negative aspect of ourselves is necessary to paliate the positive one, more so the inverse (positive to paliate the negative) such that one may be able to work his way toward enlightenment or at least bettering oneself.

One may infered the negative be Satan, and the positive be Christ.

Thanks Tony,

I would even go further as to say that the unconscious darkness in our minds helped the NWO movement into existance :tape2:

and now... indeed... where it is in form, for all to see who pay attention, it acts as a mirror to help us see what lives in us, unaware and unadressed.

If there was nothing to fight there would be nothing to win.

Satan adds a dimension to existence that humans appreciate not because of his virtue but because of his example: we can learn from him without repeating his sins.

If you could sum up the role of Satan in a nutshell: "I TEACH".
What we take away from the lesson is our own affair.

Pain is the great teacher.

Lucifer,( what he 'was', a covering cherub),.....was what was 'necessary', ( or intended by God).

What he 'became', ( Satan, a deceiving Devil),....was not out of 'necessity',....but the results of disobedience and rebellion to God.

The 'same' can be said towards 'mankind'.

Adam and Eve were 'innocent',.....and in 'perfect harmony with God',....( the full intentions of God towards us)

What 'they', ( and all of mankind), became were sinners,......and 'out of harmony' with God's full intentions for mankind.

And,.....THAT........was, equally, never Divinely called for, out of 'necessity', but was the 'results' of such actions.

Much like Newton's Law,.....

To every action there is always an equal and opposite reaction

Pretty ballsy stuff you're putting out there Tony, I like it! :) The Yin/Yang symbol is not just another pretty picture(LOL), and it's meaning is also not for the faint of heart.

I too was thinking about the yin and yang in response to this question.. I remember reading a statement attached to the symbol, which has always stuck in my mind, in regards to the symbol itself and the point in question.
It was simply "opposites compliment one another". So yeah, I think that Satan (dark) is a necessary compliment to God (light), which the two work together to create harmony and balance of sorts.

Yin Yang - "Two sides of the same coin" or the same one thing viewed from different perspectives. Neither exists without the other (notice the small dots inside the larger areas) ie nothing is completely negative or positive (ie absolutist thinking). Look at what is in between ;)

Altho it may seem frivolous, Tim Burton's movie, "The Nightmare Before Christmas" is an excellent metaphor of this dualistic principle.

What if Satan never ever existed?
Is it's just a bogey man, a conjured up fantasy, like Father Christmas?
Something to believe in, or to fear.

What if the word Satan merely referred to those internal negative emotions,
that limit or obscure our view, our pure perception?

Words like 'Satan' and 'Ego' describe something that does not exist,
like a barren women's son.

Satan/demon/evil is only our own likes and dislikes.
When our hopes and fears are clearly seen,
we are free from their effects.
That is why they are of value!
When not seen, they are in control.
When seen clearly, in the first instant, they are pure perception itself.
But we don't notice this, and so it develops into a negative energy.

There are entities that feed off our emotions - our pride, jealousy,
anger, fear and desires: they are all around us, in all *sentient being.
Show me a sentient being who does not have these negative qualities.
Satan is our own disturbing emotions, indivisible with the potential of enlightenment.

From an enlightened perspective, S a t a n is a meaningless word!

Satan is just a metaphor for our own selfish stubbornness.
When we indulge in negative energy, we attract more.
We see this all too often, and can counter this with the positive energy of
knowledge, understanding and wisdom.

* There are sentient beings in the form and formless realms.
