Of all the rumors floating around about just why Pope Benedict XVI is hanging up his camauro, one has taken on a life of its own. According to several well-placed vaticanisti—or Vatican experts—in Rome, Benedict is resigning after being handed a secret red-covered dossier that included details about a network of gay priests who work inside the Vatican, but who play in secular Rome. The priests, it seems, are allegedly being blackmailed by a network of male prostitutes who worked at a sauna in Rome’s Quarto Miglio district, a health spa in the city center, and a private residence once entrusted to a prominent archbishop. The evidence reportedly includes compromising photos and videos of the prelates—sometimes caught on film in drag, and, in some cases, caught “in the act.” More at link...

I personally doubt this because the Church's elite wouldn't let the Pope ever get into such a position. It's likely such "masseurs" would be members of the Swiss Guard, or other people who would keep quiet (- if they existed at all). However, every "Gay" Christian knows if their Church fired all their gay Priests/Pastors/Vicars, etc. there'd be hardly anyone left!

It gets even better: an official denial from the Vatican. Which, as any Washington insider can tell you, means: Nothing is official until it is officially denied.
Rome (CNN) -- The Vatican sought Saturday to tamp down rumors involving sex, money and gay priests that have been swirling in the Italian media and have been linked by some to Pope Benedict XVI's decision to resign.
The strongly-worded denial came on the eve of the pope's last Angelus blessing, expected to draw huge crowds of the faithful, before he stands down on Thursday.
Vatican Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone said it was "deplorable" that as the time for the Roman Catholic cardinals to elect a new pope approaches, a rash of "often unverified, unverifiable or completely false news stories" has appeared.
Such unfounded stories "cause serious damage to persons and institutions," he said, and are an attempt to influence the cardinals' free will in the election "through public opinion."
Bertone did not address the specific claims that were first published in La Repubblica, the country's largest circulation daily newspaper, on Thursday and Friday.
The newspaper stories center on an investigation last year by three cardinals into a scandal involving leaks from the Vatican.
Gotta love it.

Well, they are often (pick at least one):
unverified,
unverifiable or
completely false
news stories.
And they do cause serious damage to persons and institutions.
It reminds me of George W. Bush's description of those who caused 9/11 "They hate our freedoms."
In both cases, exactly true.
(In this case, the stories are, at the least, unverified by the Vatican.)

When the pope is in full dress, he's so blinged out he makes Rue Paul look manly. Plus he wears a lacy red velvet dress. He couldn't be more feminine if he wore the flouncy crinolines of a Southern Belle--and that's in plain view!:jaw:

Could be some well-timed disinfo to distract from a deeper, more lurid truth. Who knows.....
....Although, that in and of itself is quite lurid.

Papal resignation linked to inquiry into 'Vatican gay officials', says paper
Pope's staff decline to confirm or deny La Repubblica claims linking 'Vatileaks' affair
and discovery of 'blackmailed gay clergy'

A potentially explosive report has linked the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI to the
discovery of a network of gay prelates in the Vatican, some of whom – the report
said – were being blackmailed by outsiders.
The pope's spokesman declined to confirm or deny the report, which was carried by
the Italian daily newspaper La Repubblica.
The paper said the pope had taken the decision on 17 December that he was going
to resign – the day he received a dossier compiled by three cardinals delegated to
look into the so-called "Vatileaks" affair.Last May Pope Benedict's butler, Paolo
Gabriele, was arrested and charged with having stolen and leaked papal
correspondence that depicted the Vatican as a seething hotbed of intrigue and
infighting.According to La Repubblica, the dossier comprising "two volumes of
almost 300 pages – bound in red" had been consigned to a safe in the papal
apartments and would be delivered to the pope's successor upon his election.
The newspaper said the cardinals described a number of factions, including one
whose members were "united by sexual orientation".
In an apparent quotation from the report, La Repubblica said some Vatican officials
had been subject to "external influence" from laymen with whom they had links of
a "worldly nature". The paper said this was a clear reference to blackmail.
It quoted a source "very close to those who wrote [the cardinal's report]" as
saying: "Everything revolves around the non-observance of the sixth and seventh
commandments."
The seventh enjoins against theft. The sixth forbids adultery, but is linked in
Catholic doctrine to the proscribing of homosexual acts.La Repubblica said the
cardinals' report identified a series of meeting places in and around Rome. They
included a villa outside the Italian capital, a sauna in a Rome suburb, a beauty
parlour in the centre, and a former university residence that was in use by a
provincial Italian archbishop.
Father Federico Lombardi, the Vatican spokesman, said: "Neither the cardinals'
commission nor I will make comments to confirm or deny the things that are said
about this matter. Let each one assume his or her own responsibilities. We shall not
be following up on the observations that are made about this."
He added that interpretations of the report were creating "a tension that is the
opposite of what the pope and the church want" in the approach to the conclave of
cardinals that will elect Benedict's successor. Another Italian daily, Corriere della
Sera, alluded to the dossier soon after the pope announced his resignation on 11
February, describing its contents as "disturbing".
The three-man commission of inquiry into the Vatileaks affair was headed by a
Spanish cardinal, Julián Herranz. He was assisted by Cardinal Salvatore De Giorgi, a
former archbishop of Palermo, and the Slovak cardinal Jozef Tomko, who once
headed the Vatican's department for missionaries.
Pope Benedict has said he will stand down at the end of this month; the first pope
to resign voluntarily since Celestine V more than seven centuries ago. Since
announcing his departure he has twice apparently referred to machinations inside
the Vatican, saying that divisions "mar the face of the church", and warned
against "the temptations of power".
La Repubblica's report was the latest in a string of claims that a gay network exists
in the Vatican. In 2007 a senior official was suspended from the congregation, or
department, for the priesthood, after he was filmed in a "sting" organised by an
Italian television programme while apparently making sexual overtures to a
younger man.In 2010 a chorister was dismissed for allegedly procuring male
prostitutes for a papal gentleman-in-waiting. A few months later a weekly news
magazine used hidden cameras to record priests visiting gay clubs and bars and
having sex.
The Vatican does not condemn homosexuals. But it teaches that gay sex
is "intrinsically disordered". Pope Benedict has barred sexually active gay men from
studying for the priesthood.

Interesting to say the least. My younger brother went to a seminary for 3 or so years to become a priest. He was told he was "too ridgid" and asked to leave. I wonder if they were referring to the him not bending over so to speak.:p
Most people acknowledge that homosexuality is more common than hetrosexuality in the clergy. I think what bothers most people is that there is such blatent hypocracsy about it.
I don't think this is what made Ratzinger step down. I had read/heard that he had made noises about resigning a couple times in the past, even visiting the grave of one Pope who did resign. I suspect "Joe the Rat" has his hand caught in the money laundering cookie jar and evidence of being directly tied to that is what is making him step aside. After all, he plans on staying right in Vatican City after he retires so he has imunity against any charges that could be brought against him.

it doesn't matter WHAT forces to pope to resign. what matters is WHEN. the timing is the important factor, the reason for it is completely arbitrary. the final harvest starts in 2013 and THEY KNOW.

Yeah, Palyto, I agree with you: I find it hard to believe that even when it's about the sex, that it's not about the sex. They can do whatever they for as long as they want--until they mess up and/or step on the wrong toes.
It's all about money and power, just like everything else with "them". Whatever sex scandal gets revealed, easily could have at any earlier time. The sex (the less socially acceptable, the better) is just a distraction...and quite honestly, I would bet the sick games they play are way more lurid, sick and twisted than the raunchiest stuff that comes out...

The final harvest, I'm presuming the final harvest you speak of is from Revalations. I would only add " but concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the son, but the father only"
Just saying!

I'm sure I don't know what I think about -Gay people? Their shame? why? it is who they are! Black mailers? again it is who they are!
But, disinformation? Speculation? Be sure your information is accurate before you throw that stone. don't want to be called to account for your prejudices.
I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, as I expect most of Avalon do too.
How about we preface our speculative unproven statements with the 'rumour' word, I just feel we might be doing the ptb's work for them sometimes.
