It's the mystery beast of South Wales and it has washed up on a beach on the Pembrokeshire coast.

The creature which appears to have the face of a horse, the body of a pig and the claws of a bear was spotted by local Peter Bailey as he walked his dog last week.

Mr Bailey took a picture and sent it to the local paper, the Western Telegraph.

He told the paper: “I was taking my dog for her evening walk across the south beach when she started acting out of character by howling and running round in circles.

“I ran up to her to see if she was ok and then I came across this hideous looking carcass. I could see it had little hair left on it's decomposing body.

“Immediately I thought it was a horse but it had claws like a bear and a body of a pig. Surprisingly it didn't smell.”

Pembrokeshire council told walesonline news website said the creature was probably a dog affected by an extended period in the water.

Spokesman Len Mullins said: “We did get a call on Friday evening to say a Jack Russell had been washed up on Tenby's South Beach but our staff couldn't find it.”

Dr Dan Foreman of Swansea University's College of Science told The Sun newspaper that "judging by its size and the fact it has five toes, it could be a badger".

Well, whatever it is, the creature's head is disproportionate to the rest of the body. It does look like a horse's head.

A chimera? Genetic tinkering????

Someone is playing frankenstein with the animals again. Mad scientist geneticly experimenting. It must be stopped.

When I was a kid growing up in North Eastern Ohio on the coast of Lake Erie. My brother and I discovered a human corpse that washed ashore. I believe I was about 6 or 7 years old at the time. Whenever I see these pictures of unidentifiable animals on the web, my mind immediately takes me back to the similarly ghastly image of that corpse.
As it turned out, the person that washed ashore was a suicide from Canada and had been floating in the frigid waters for weeks.
I dont want to go into too much detail as to how this corpse looked. But we knew it was human because it had clothing on.
If not for the clothing I'm sure we would've thought it to be some kind of monster.

Hmmm, seems suspect. This looks like the thing that was seen on a beach in NY back in 2008. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montauk_Monster.

This is starting to feel like a hoax, or someone is discarding test subjects into the oceans only later to be washed up on the beaches. Also a decomposing body that also suffers from water damage to the flesh can make just about anything look unrecognizable. hmm, Wonder If this is story will be swept under the rug, or washed away with the tide…

Well, to me this looks like a bullterrier who floated in the water for some time (flesh affected)

This dog will never make the headlines for appearance of beauty and has often been called a sort of pig.

So... not a monster this time, imo.
At least... not a mysterie one :)

There was a big fuss about a similar find in America---I cant remember which animal it turned out to be but it was normal.
Being virtually hairless and bloated after time in the water changes a body beyond recognition.
At least imagination is alive and well

Well, it's not going to smell because it has been soaked in a saline solution. Also, it just looks like a dead, water-logged dog to me.

When you find a giant pig you will probably know.

Wild Boars are not native to USA. They are not a rarity in some areas any longer but maybe on the beach.

To me that pic looked kind of like a dead dog (coloring).

When I was a small child, I saw the body of a hybridized pig floating in the creek near my home.

It was very dark, had tusks, and the tail looked like a pig's tail (think Eeyore), not a dog's.

Decomposing Badger.

jep, the feet give it away.... I get to look at the run over badgers all the time....
the one in the photo seems to have had a good shave in the surf... the seals look naked like that too when they have been dead for a while...

SnowWalker Prime, known for his Bigfoot rants has this video up that provides a little more evidence for what this critter might be. His guess? A European badger. It’s a good guess. (source (http://doubtfulnews.com/2013/02/tenby-mystery-carcass/))

I don't think the teeth are right for any one of those animals. The front teeth are like a horses from teeth, then it has canines. The creature could easily be identified by its teeth or skeleton if there was any question over what it is. And if the teeth or skeleton is unique, then it need a lot of further research.

A genetics test would quickly sort its ID out aswell
