Bug out bag stove

Hi all

I thought some of you may be interested in a small, light simple to use and refill stove I picked up from ebay.
I would just like to state that I am not affiliated with this seller, just very happy with the service and information I recieved.

This little stove is brilliant, it lights from a simple striker but comes with matches, and is as simple as open the tin, light and cook. Close the tin when done and store for the next time.

In my tests I boiled lots of water with about half an hour in between to do other things but in all, I got about 2.5 hours out of one tin. And at the price, not bad i recon.

I refilled an empty one with the gel fuel you can buy and its again ready to go.

Do you know the BTU rating for the fuel? I use "Magic Heat" for my little collapsible stove but it takes forever (20-30 minutes)to perc a pot of coffee. By then I'm asleep. The upside is the safety and non-toxicity.

That is a great buy!

I was tempted to get a SS Kelly kettle, boils water in no time and anything that burns will do as fuel, bigger to carry, and more expensive.
I got one from the makers with a good discount because it had a tiny dent in it, hardly notices.

I have a kelly kettle and it is great, just too large for a bug out bag and usefull only to boil water very fast. The cooker part turns any food into charcoal and its not my cooking skills as i worked as a chef 4 years ago.

BTU rating, no sorry dont know that, all I know is that for little money this is a fantastic item to stuff in your bag...

was wondering if bbq gel starter fuel would work as it seems quite cheap.

I actually rate this little stove better than the kelly kettle, if weight is an issue.

I think the Kelly will win on sustainability because of the likely hood of fuel scarcity in a crisis situation, but for size your stove wins hands down.

My BOB stove solution is an MSR Dragonfly. I chose it because you can fuel it with practically anything - Diesel, Petrol, Meths, White gas (aka Shellite) all work in it. My BOB is pretty heavy, but my evac scenarios all involve transport. My lightweight BOB for the worst case scenario of having to hoof it, has nothing for cooking, as my short term solution is not to eat until I get where I need to go - except some high calorie energy foods.

The gel stove however has some significant advantages over the shorter term - no moving parts, not possible to spill and no ignition phase, no requirement to clean and service. Main downside is, its once the fuel is used, you cant scavenge up more. With the Dragonfly I feel my chances of getting more fuel are higher.

The idea behind this stove is to help you out really till you get sorted. It weighs 200g full and I believe it would keep you on the right track as a short term solution. Once at a place of safety, crack out the big stove.
