Hi

The UK Natwest bank updated some of it's software and now people get their cards rejected and can't get cash from the machines.

The only reason I bring this up here is because I'm a subscriber and I am:

[1] - a professional database systems developer
[2] - interested in the financial system and..
[3] - sometimes see these scenarios as symbolic of a more general "end of a paradigm" type scenario

Often when I'm working in my own job, I have my philosophical moments where I step back and think "jeez - these are all just numbers ! nothing more". (And electronic ones at that). It can all go up in a puff of smoke so easily and bears a continually diminishing relation to the underlying state of physical everyday activity they are supposed to represent.

I mean, I only work for relatively small, say 25 million dollar businesses and I don't think my biggest customer has lost more than an hour of business in 15 years due to software problems. If they did I would be absolutely hung. And yet a huge bank with millions of businesses, customers and public utilities depending on it has these huge meltdowns twice in the space of a year and it's just accepted.

What it has to do with human spirituality is that it will eventually make people come face to face with their own priorities and values when they discover that they've left their "spiritual garden" unattended and gone to seed. They believe everything they see on the news, they believe numbers are value, they believe criminals are saviours and they think that "everything will be ok as long as someone in authority is in control".

There are promising chinks of light appearing though - apparently Max Kaiser is the most "Widely Watched News Commentator on the PLanet"....http://libertyblitzkrieg.com/2012/11/04/the-uks-independent-calls-max-keiser-the-most-widely-watched-news-commentator-on-the-planet/

I tend to think of him as an alternative media guy and he has really broken through with a lot of radical ideas. That's great for the rest of us whatever you're particular bent - Avalon-Icke-Jones-SOTT-Hoagland-Zerohedge-PressTV-UFO-7/7 Truth-9/11 truth-UK Column-Global Warming Lies.

It only takes one heretical voice to gain credibility to fatally wound a whole panorama of establishment "thought-barricades".

I"ve worked in the ATM and card processing departments of 2 major UK banks (sadly both now swallowed up by a bigger beast) and know how much time is (or is supposed to be) spent on testing. I also know how difficult it is to actually get changes implemented. So how this has happened, AGAIN, is seriously puzzling.
