More than 900 dead pigs have been retrieved from a Shanghai river that is a water source for city residents.

According to the city's water supplies bureau the dead pigs were spotted in a section used as a drinking water source for Shanghai residents.

Officials say the water quality has not been affected and they are investigating where the pigs came from.

The China Daily news website reports that environmental protection and water supplies authorities have increased quality checks at water intakes and across the water disinfection process.

.... hahaha yes indeed, and not to mention the fact that most rivers in China also happen to be sewers with once again no apparent impact on the potability of the water.

Further info - another 300 pigs have been found, here's the link to the ChinaDaily article ......

More than 2,800 pig carcasses have been discovered floating in a river that runs through Shanghai and feeds into its tap water supply, according to China's state media.

The number of dead pigs found in the Huangpu river rose from a few dozen on Thursday to more than 1,200 on Sunday, and again to over 2,813 on Monday afternoon as the city's cleanup effort intensified.

While the cause of the incident is still under investigation, water quality tests along the river have identified traces of porcine circovirus, a virus that can affect pigs but not humans. No signs of other diseases such as E coli, foot and mouth disease, or hog cholera have been found, and authorities say the city's tap water is still safe to drink."

This is exactly the scenario that will start the next great Pandemic -chronic occurrence of deadly disease- overcrowding and no environmental hygiene.

Surprised the WHO are not protesting loudly about this. Unless of course they are waiting for this disease to cross contaminate human beings. Well I object to this.

The pig is reported to be the closest tissue donor for human's

I wonder what is a safe PPM ( pigs per million) level for drinking water ? could 2800 pigs be enough to consider it unsafe?
