From the war zone to the country's borders, the use of drones has many lawmakers
debating the fears of these unmanned robots. On Wednesday, the Senate Judiciary
Committee held a hearing discussing the potential uses and privacy concerns. RT's Liz
Wahl brings us more information from the hearings.

WASHINGTON — Targeted killings have made drones controversial, but a new class
of tiny aircraft in the United States — cheap, able and ubiquitous — could engage in
targeted snooping that existing laws are inadequate to address, witnesses and
members of the Senate Judiciary Committee said in a hearing on Wednesday.

3/6/13 - Eric Holder informed Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) in writing that the White House
would be within its legal authority to execute an American citizen via drone on U.S. soil
if that person was determined to pose a threat to national security. On Wednesday,
testifying before a Senate panel, Holder was prodded repeatedly about this assertion by
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX). Holder eventually admitted that it would not be constitutional to
execute an American citizen without due process.

New Drone Could 'Snatch Humans Off the Street' - Avian-Inspired Grasping For Quadrotor Micro Aerial Vehicles

A new flying drone developed by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania could
one day be used to snatch humans off the street.Justin Thomas and his colleagues at
the GRASP Lab have produced an "avian-inspired" claw drone that mimics the way an
eagle uses its talons to grab a fish out of the ocean.A video clip of the drone shows the
UAV swooping down at high speed to snatch an object using its 3D printed mechanical
claw. By mimicking how a bald eagle sweeps its legs and claws backwards to
aerodynamically close in on its prey without the need to slow down, the drone is able to
grasp a stationary object with precise efficiency.

Drexel University's Christopher Korpela is simultaneously developing flight stability
software for drones with arms that would enable the UAV's to carry a weighty object
without them falling out of the air. The eventual purpose of the drones would be focused
around "interacting with people or the environment," although that is still a long way off
according to Korpela.Technology journalist Adario Strange envisages a future scenario
where a larger version of the eagle claw drone could be used by law enforcement or
military to pluck humans off the ground.

I find it sad that our gov't makes these awful surveillance and attack drones, but doesn't have a solution for digging people out of rubble or providing resources to people in combat-stricken zones.

There are no search and rescue robots or anything useful, really. only Terminator-like war machines that make us feel like ants.

as an air force vet i hate what's happening with a passion and love the opportunity to bash the gov'ts bad choices.

@@ lol great thread :)
