PRAXAIR TANKER TRUCK vs. WOLKWAGEN BEETLE

So I was on my way out of Seattle to waste some money, and my husband and I were in the carpool lane on northbound I-5 (far left lane with the diamond in it). I think our side of the highway was about 4 lanes at that point. We were close to Lynnwood or Everett. Not sure which. But anyhow, I was looking at my husband because he was talking. He suddenly stopped blabbing and pointed out through the windshield on my side of the car.
What I saw next really should be on Youtube, because it happened so fast. I saw a brilliant flash of red paint, and realized, good God, there is a red Volkswagen Bug about 5 car-lengths ahead of us, flying through the air about 5 feet above the ground. It was almost sideways when it went airborne.
And the reason it was going sideways, was that the driver of the Bug tried to change lanes when there was a Praxair tanker truck in the center lane. He ran his car right into the broadside of the chemical (GAS) tank, bounced off, and rode right up the back of the tractor trailer's forward wheel well. The red car ricocheted between the two trailer wheel wells and finally came loose from the larger vehicle without punching a hole in the tank. Meanwhile, the entire passenger side of the driver's cabin inside that Volkswagen was crushed like a soda can.
I wasn't aware of this at the time, but my husband used to write a lot of vendor contracts, and one of them was with Praxair. Those trucks carry everything from Acetylene to Hydrogen, and he aware of the danger. When these two vehicles finally rolled to a stop, which wasn't too long a thing (it was rush hour and traffic was almost stopped anyway before we saw the accident), there was red bumper shrapnel and all kinds of **** across many lanes of the highway. Traffic had temporarily come to a complete stop on the left side of the northbound interstate.
I jumped out of the car, since we were only about 10 feet from the accident at this point. I motioned for the other drivers behind us to wait a moment, and quickly picked what debris I could out of the road. We saw that about 20 yuppies had stopped to call 911, and when I turned around the driver of the truck was talking to the driver of the Bug, who was able to get out of his car and walk away. W T F!
There was no pileup, in fact, I don't think a single other vehicle got hit aside from the Praxair truck and the Bug. What really freaked me out about this incident was, some months ago I watched a video of the same thing happening in China, except in that video, the truck exploded.
I was 20 to 30 feet from the impact site of the Praxair truck and the Volkswagen. If the truck had exploded, you wouldn't have been able to read this short, but exciting, narrative.
Also, I wanted to tell you something, Volkswagen Bugs are about the toughest-framed cars in the world, because of the round shape -- but up against a tanker truck, it handles like cotton candy -- never ever ever ever ever ever let a car lull you into feeling safe for one second.
You never know when you could literally DIAF in the USA.
LOL!
P.S. here is the totally sad Chinese version of what I saw today:
